After an excellent flight of almost 10 hours on Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, we arrived in Hong Kong and our feedback on the Marriott Hong Kong Skycity hotel
To book this hotel, I used 10,000 starpoints from my Marriott Bonvoy account which I transferred into 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
The price per night was almost $300 per night, so it was a good deal to use points here!
Thanks to the Marriott app, I was able to check in with the hotel from the Istanbul airport. I saw then that our rooms had been upgraded to Marriott Gold status (status earned through equivalence of SPG Gold status, itself earned as a benefit of the American Express Platinum card).
To get to the hotel from the airport, you will need to follow the signs for the hotel shuttles. However, beware: the Marriott’s starts at door 29.
One line is dedicated to Marriott Bonvoy Gold and Platinum members. Another line is also reserved for people who have registered on mobile.
In less than 2 minutes, we had our keys and a sheet summarizing the advantages granted by the hotel to Gold and Platinum members.
We had requested 2 rooms: one with a king bed + baby bed, the other with 2 double beds. These were different from each other although they were connected by a communicating door.
The one with the king bed was ours with our baby (the baby bed had already been placed in the room, which is greatly appreciated after such a long trip!)
A desk/table with some fruits to welcome us:
A large shower took place in this bathroom.
The other room, with 2 double beds, was my mother’s and our daughter’s.
Here, in the bathroom… a bathtub!
In both rooms, a beautiful wardrobe with bathrobes:
And a view from our rooms to watch the early morning departures from Hong Kong airport.
Access to the lounge is restricted to Marriott Bonvoy Gold and Platinum members. Again, this is a great benefit for American Express Platinum cardholders.
In the evening, there are bite-sized snacks available.
And alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available.
During the day, you can have a drink and work.
In the morning, breakfast is served.
However, if you are a Gold or Platinum member, I advise you to choose the buffet served in the hotel’s restaurant at the lobby level, which is much more complete as you will see below!
A beautiful indoor pool allowed us to relax from our flight.
Each men’s and women’s locker room has showers as well as a sauna and whirlpool. A beautiful sports hall is also present.
In the morning, a buffet breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant. And it’s pretty amazing! Free for Gold and Platinum members.
Check out the slideshow for a preview of this buffet!
The fact that it is free for Gold and Platinum members is a significant saving. Here is the bill (which will be cleared at check-out): CA$110 for 3 adults, or a little over $35 per person!
Marriott Bonvoy Gold status is awarded to those who have spent at least 50 nights in the year at Marriott hotels. But there is a way to get this status much easier!
In fact, the American Express Platinum Card offers Marriott Bonvoy Gold status as part of its benefits package.
In Canada, the easiest way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is through one of the two American Express Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. The version for individuals:
And the enterprise version (also available to individuals):
Remember: 1 starpoint = 3 Marriott Bonvoy points. And you can transfer those points instantly from one account to another without limitation.
It is also possible to earn – a lot of – starpoints via the new Cobalt card from American Express. More details in this article.
Perfect for an overnight stop, this hotel is less than a 45-minute taxi/Uber ride from Hong Kong – choose Uber over old-fashioned cabs…
We had chosen to make just a 24 hours stopover in Hong Kong, which was enough for us to go back and visit the highlights of the city: Victoria Peak, the business district and Kowlown.
