IHG One Rewards
To the point For a limited time, IHG One Rewards offers a bonus on point purchases, allowing you to save on your hotel nights.

Get a Bonus When Buying IHG One Rewards Points

Until January 31, 2025, enjoy a bonus of up to 100% when you purchase IHG One Rewards points. The 100% offer is targeted: some members have received a lower bonus, for example 90%.

Don’t forget that Iberostar Resorts all-inclusive hotels are part of the IHG hotel chain. So you can redeem IHG points for free nights at these all-inclusive hotels!

IHG Brands

While there is no longer a credit card linked to the IHG One Rewards program in Canada, it is still possible to accumulate points:

We do not recommend purchasing points during regular periods. However, it can be advantageous during promotional periods, as is currently the case.

This is a recurring promotion that returns every two months or so, with a variation in the bonus percentage. The last bonus was similar, up to 100% in December 2024.

The minimum number of IHG One Rewards points to purchase to get the 100% bonus is 5,000 points.

You can purchase up to 200,000 IHG points and receive 200,000 bonus IHG points, for a total of 400,000 points.

Is It Worthwhile to Buy IHG One Rewards Points?

The answer to this question is… Yes and no.

In Canada, we do not have the advantage of credit cards that allow us to accumulate IHG One Rewards points directly or indirectly (unlike the multiple credit card options to earn Marriott Bonvoy points).

Evaluate the cost of a night at an IHG hotel in dollars compared to its cost in points. For example, if you buy $500 worth of IHG points and the room costs $1,000, you are winning.

Which means purchasing IHG One Rewards points can be an interesting solution ONLY when you have a very specific goal in mind.

Milesopedia values IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or 0.62 Canadian cents), but they can be used at a much higher value.

Bottom Line

Buying IHG points can therefore be interesting for some, whether for a specific travel goal and/or to top up a points balance to get a free night.

If you are not in one of these situations, we advise against buying points and prefer other programs like Marriott Bonvoy where it is much easier to earn points thanks to credit cards!
