Hotel quarantine in Canada: government-authorized hotels and instructions

For international travellers returning to Canada, as of February 22, 2021, it is mandatory to:

• provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test taken up to 72 hours before their scheduled departure time
• reserve a government-authorized hotel for 3 nights prior to departure to Canada
• take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival in Canada
• stay in the government-authorized hotel while awaiting the results of the COVID-19 molecular test taken on arrival
• pay for the cost of the hotel stay, as well as all associated costs for:
  • security
  • transportation
  • food
  • infection prevention and control measures

Travellers must present proof of having reserved and pre-paid for their accommodation through ArriveCAN.

Travellers will still be required to complete the remainder of the mandatory 14-day quarantine after their mandatory hotel stopover.

The Government of Canada has selected 42 hotels at the 4 international airports.

Hotel stopover bookings are managed by GB Travel Canada Inc., and are made over the phone. For the hotels available online, you can book (only with the quarantine rate).

If your flight to Canada is scheduled within the next 48 hours, call to reserve and pay for your mandatory 3-night hotel stopover:

Regular business hours: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET, 7 days a week. Calls received after hours will be limited to emergencies.

You’ll be able to choose from the listed hotel locations and be required to provide:

• traveller name(s)
• date(s) of birth
• gender (male, female, or undisclosed)
• arrival city and date
• confirmation of flight reservation
• payment information
• special requests and accessibility concerns
• pet information
• email address

Travellers will receive email confirmation of their accommodation within 4 hours of booking.

Costs of these hotel stopovers may vary by location. The price will include costs associated with the:

• security
• transportation
• food
• room
• infection prevention and control measures

A reader of milesopedia, working in one of the Marriott hotels in Montreal, shared the conditions with us:

• The reservation fee is the GTC code
• The minimum stay is 3 nights
• Non-refundable, even if you get a negative test result after the first night
• There are different rates for stays from 1 to 4 people
• The rate includes 3 meals per day, Wi-Fi and a shuttle service from the airport.

Even if you can search for this fare online, you must make your reservation through the government telephone number.

For Montreal, the rate varies between $1,000 and $1,500 for one person. And up to $3,000 for a family of four.
