Following the changes to the WestJet Rewards loyalty program last spring, RBC and WestJet are announcing significant new changes to their co-branded credit cards: the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ and the WestJet RBC Mastercard.
These changes will come into effect on November 5, 2025, and aim to offer more value to cardholders, particularly through accelerated earning, greater flexibility, and enhanced insurance.
Both WestJet credit cards now offer more earning opportunities and new redemption options for the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ and the WestJet RBC Mastercard.
The WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ is undergoing several significant improvements, but its annual fees will also increase.
Holders of the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ will be able to earn WestJet points faster thanks to new accelerators:
There is no spending limit for the new accelerators.
The annual companion voucher, a key benefit of the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡, now offers more flexibility.
Cardholders can use it as they currently do (for a reduced-fare companion ticket), or exchange it for one of the new options:
In addition to the current insurance coverage (travel accident, trip interruption, car rental, purchase protection, and extended warranty), the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ will include:
The first checked bag will continue to be free for the cardholder and up to 8 guests on the same reservation, provided that the cardholder’s WestJet Rewards number is added to the reservation and the flight is paid with the card.
Cardholders will be able to achieve higher status faster through Status Lift, up to Platinum status by combining eligible tier and level spending. Every $5,000 spent earns $200 in eligible tier spending.
The annual fees for the WestJet RBCWorld Elite Mastercard will increase from $119 to $139 for the primary cardholder, effective December 1, 2025, and the annual fees for additional cards will remain unchanged at $59. This is the first increase since 2017 and it aligns with other World Elite Mastercard or Visa Infinite credit cards on the market.
Additionally, a new annual minimum spend of $5,000 will be required to obtain a companion voucher starting from the second year. Welcome companion vouchers are not affected.
The WestJet RBC Mastercard, designed for beginner travelers, will also offer new earning opportunities and more flexible redemption options.
Holders of the WestJet RBC Mastercard will now earn 1.5 points per dollar spent on Sunwing Vacations packages, restaurants, food delivery, and digital subscriptions.
Just like with the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, cardholders of the WestJet RBC Mastercard will be able to use the companion voucher as they do today or choose from these new redemption options:
Mobile device insurance is added to the existing coverage (travel accident, car rental, purchases, and extended warranty).
A new minimum annual spend of $2,500 will be required to earn a companion voucher starting from the second year. Welcome companion vouchers are not affected.
These changes introduced by RBC and WestJet offer new ways to earn WestJet points and greater flexibility in using the companion voucher.
However, the increase in the annual fee for the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ and the introduction of a minimum spend to obtain the companion voucher on both WestJet credit cards might not be to everyone’s liking. It will be important to carefully analyze one’s own spending and travel situation to determine if these cards continue to meet their needs.
