To ensure that the benefits of Aeroplan Elite status are not interrupted during the peak holiday travel season, Aeroplan has announced that Elite status will now be extended to January 31 of each year, instead of ending on December 31.
As a reminder, Elite status is obtained on the basis of qualifying activities carried out during the qualification period between January 1 and December 31 of the same year. This qualification period remains unchanged.
Once achieved, Aeroplan Status is valid:
Thus, if a member obtains status before the end of 2024, that status will be valid for the rest of 2024, all of 2025 and until January 31, 2026. The status will be automatically extended thanks to this improvement, and the 2025 basic and selective benefits will be available by mid-January, as usual.
If members plan not to renew their Elite status for 2025, their existing travel benefits will be extended until January 31, 2025, giving them an extra month to enjoy their travel benefits. Their new status will take effect on February 1, 2025.
For example, a 35K member who has only met the requirements to be a 25K in 2025 will have their 35K benefits until January 31, 2025, and then will have their 25K status obtained as of February 1, 2025.
Aeroplan will begin extending status expiration dates on December 1. Elite members will not have to do anything and this will happen automatically.
If you’re downgrading to a lower status and travelling during the month of January, this change is particularly useful for you. It allows you to continue enjoying your Elite status privileges during the busy holiday season.
This will solve the problem and confusion during the transition!
