Marriott Bonvoy: How do I transfer points to another account?

Marriott Bonvoy is the most well-known loyalty program in Canada for free nights.

Over the course of a year, if you are a couple, or friends travelling together, you might want to marge Marriott Bonvoy points into the same account for many reasons:

• Merge Marriott Bonvoy points earned with Marriott Bonvoy credit cards
• Combine Marriott Bonvoy points earned from transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy
• Take advantage of the Stay 5 Nights, Pay for 4 with Marriott Bonvoy Points option
• Benefit from another Marriott Bonvoy member’s elite status, which can enhance your loyalty program experience

There are a few rules to know regarding the transfer of Marriott Bonvoy points to another account:

• There are no fees to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points from one account to another
• Each Marriott Bonvoy account must have been open for at least 30 days (with account activity such as earning or redeeming points) or 90 days without activity
• You can transfer up to 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per calendar year.
• A member can receive up to 500,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per calendar year.
• You must transfer a minimum of 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points
• A maximum of 6 transfer transactions per calendar year, with a maximum of 2 transfer transactions per month. A transaction is defined as a member giving or receiving transferred points.

If a member reaches the maximum annual limit of 6 transactions before reaching the maximum point limit (100,000) to give or receive, they will not be able to complete any transactions until the next calendar year.

If the member reaches the monthly transaction limit, he/she will be able to make transactions in the following calendar month, unless he/she has also reached the annual transaction or points limit. It is therefore important to review the terms and conditions before planning your transfers.

To transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points from one account to another, you have two options:

• Do it online, directly on the Marriott Bonvoy website, via your Marriott Bonvoy account, or by using points earned through your American Express credit cards and transferring Membership Rewards points.
• Or call Marriott Bonvoy customer service at +1-800-627-7468

In both cases, you will be asked:

• Your Marriott Bonvoy membership number
• Your contact information (questions may be asked about your recent account activity)
• The Marriott Bonvoy member number to which you wish to transfer your points

And that’s it! Transferring Marriott Bonvoy points to another account is instant, allowing you to manage your points between accounts, plan your free nights, and, if necessary, purchase points to complete your bookings.

Note that the receiving account must have been active for at least 30 days, and some older accounts (up to 24 months) may offer additional benefits during the transfer.
