Introduction

At Milesopedia Group (hereinafter “Milesopedia”), we attach paramount importance to privacy protection. This Privacy Policy aims to inform you about how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our websites. It operates in conjunction with our Terms of Use. By browsing our sites, you accept the practices described in this Policy.

Scope of the Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all sites operated by Milesopedia, including:

Milesopedia is responsible for processing data collected on these sites. We comply with applicable personal data protection laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) (Canada), the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Quebec), as well as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe and applicable US laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act – CCPA, where applicable).

Age Note: Our sites are intended for an adult audience (18 years and older). We do not knowingly collect personal data concerning minors. If you are under 18, please do not provide personal information on our sites.

User Consent

By using our sites, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree with these terms, please cease using our services.

During your first visit, a consent banner (provided by our partner Didomi) allows you to choose which categories of cookies and tracking technologies you accept or decline. You can change your preferences at any time via this module or your browser settings (see the Cookies section below).

Definitions

To facilitate understanding of this Policy, here are some key definitions:

  • “Personal Information” (or “Personal Data”): any information concerning an identifiable individual, such as a name, email address, phone number, IP address associated with other data, etc. This refers to data protected by the aforementioned laws (PIPEDA, provincial law, GDPR…).
  • “Website” (or “Internet Site”): a set of pages and content accessible at a web address under the same domain name (e.g., milesopedia.com).
  • “User” (or “Visitor”): any person who accesses our Websites via a browser (computer, mobile, or tablet).
  • “Browser” (or “Web Browser”): software used to view Websites (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox…).
  • “Cookies” (or “Digital Markers”): small text files stored on your device via your browser when visiting websites. They store information about your browsing (e.g., site preferences, session ID) and can be retrieved during subsequent visits.
  • “Web Beacons” (or web tags): code snippets or tiny images embedded in certain pages or emails, which collect information about browsing (e.g., that a page has been viewed or an email has been opened).

Information We Collect

Automatically Collected Data

When you visit our sites, our servers and certain third-party services automatically collect certain technical data, anonymously, to ensure the proper functioning and security of the site. This data may include:

  • IP address and network location of the device used to access the site. (Note: Although an IP address alone does not allow for nominal identification, Milesopedia treats it as personal information when combined with other browsing data.)
  • Date, time, and duration of visit.
  • Pages viewed on our sites and documents downloaded, if any.
  • Referral URL: the web page from which you arrived at our site, if applicable.
  • Browser type (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) and operating system (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, etc.) of your device.
  • Demographic or interest data provided in an aggregated manner by certain tools (e.g., Google Analytics can provide us with overall data on visitors’ age, gender, and interests, without individually identifying these users).

This log and statistical data is generally anonymized and used for global analysis purposes. We do not seek to associate this information with your identity, unless it becomes necessary to investigate security issues, fraud attempts, or if required by law as part of investigations.

Data Voluntarily Provided by the User

We only collect personally identifiable information (such as your name or email address) if you choose to provide it to us voluntarily, for example:

  • Online Forms: when you fill out a form on our sites (e.g., newsletter subscription, contest participation, contact request, comment, etc.), we may ask you for information such as your first name, last name, email address, postal code, or other relevant details.
  • Email or Messaging Communications: if you communicate directly with us (e.g., by sending an email to one of our addresses or via social media), we may retain your name, email address, and the content of your message in order to respond to you or follow up on your request.

In all cases, this personal information is collected and used only for the purposes for which you submitted it to us. If you write to us or fill out a form, your information may be accessed by authorized Milesopedia personnel to process your request. We will not disclose this information to third parties without your consent, unless otherwise stated in this Policy or required by law.

Communication Security: Please note that, unless otherwise indicated (e.g., a form on a secure web page), emails and electronic messages sent via the Internet are not encrypted and may be intercepted. We advise you not to include sensitive personal information (such as banking information, social insurance number, or any confidential data) in unsecured communications.

Purposes of Data Use

Milesopedia collects and uses your data for the following primary purposes:

  • Service Provision and Improvement: Ensure the secure operation of our sites, adapt the presentation and content to your device and preferences, and improve usability and functionality through traffic analysis.
  • Content Personalization: Better understand our users’ interests in order to offer articles, content, and offers tailored to their preferences (for example, adjusting our content to the realities of each market: Canada, France, etc.).
  • Communications with the Community: If you have provided us with your contact information:
  • First name and last name: to personalize our communications and interactions with you (for example, addressing you by your name in our newsletters).
  • Email address: to send you our weekly newsletter if you are subscribed, occasional promotional emails (e.g., special offers, contests), or invitations to special events organized by Milesopedia. Each newsletter or marketing email contains an unsubscribe link allowing you to easily remove yourself from our mailing list.
  • Demographic Profile (optional): if you choose to provide information such as your age range, family situation, region, or travel interests, we may use it to segment our audience and tailor our content and offers to different groups within our community. For example, this can help us offer more relevant content based on your interests or location.
  • Feedback and Surveys: if you respond to surveys or questionnaires (e.g., on your satisfaction, destination preferences, or opinions on credit cards), we will use your responses to better understand our readership’s expectations and improve our services or partnerships accordingly.
  • Support and Assistance: Use data (including error reports or requests you submit) to provide technical support and answer your questions or concerns.
  • Service Notifications: Contact you for administrative or legal reasons, for example, to inform you of changes to this Privacy Policy, confirm your participation in a contest, or any other necessary communication. These communications are not promotional in nature.
  • Aggregated Statistics: Develop global statistics (aggregated and anonymous) on site usage and the general profile of our audience, in order to develop and improve our products and services as well as those of our partners. For example, this aggregated data can help us evaluate the performance of our articles or interest in certain sections, without identifying individual users.
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, including any requests from authorities or requirements regarding personal information protection.

We will not use your personal information for new purposes not mentioned above without your prior consent. Furthermore, Milesopedia does not process sensitive data within the meaning of applicable laws (e.g., health information, ethnic origin, political opinions, etc.), and does not make automated decisions producing legal effects concerning you based on your personal data.

Cookie Files (Cookies) and Similar Technologies

Like many websites, Milesopedia uses cookies and similar technologies to improve your user experience and achieve the objectives described above. We have implemented a consent management platform (Didomi CMP) to obtain your consent when required by law (especially for visitors from the European Union, Quebec, California, etc.).

Types of Cookies Used

  • Strictly Necessary/Functional Cookies: These cookies are essential for the basic operation of our sites and for providing the service you have requested. For example, they remember your display preferences, selected items, or session information. Without them, certain functionalities (such as staying logged in, retaining form content in case of error, etc.) might not function correctly. These cookies do not require prior consent, as without them the site would not be able to function normally.
  • Analytical Cookies: These cookies, provided by third-party tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity), help us understand how visitors navigate our sites. They collect information anonymously and in an aggregated manner about pages visited, time spent, interactions with the site, etc. We use this data to improve the performance and design of our sites. We request your consent to activate these analytical cookies, in accordance with regulations.
  • Targeting/Advertising Cookies: These cookies (potentially placed by third-party advertising partners) collect information about your browsing habits and preferences in order to present you with relevant advertisements on our site or elsewhere. For example, they help avoid showing you the same ad multiple times and display advertising content likely to interest you based on your visits to our sites and other sites. We use partners such as Google Ads, Meta (Facebook) Ads, and TikTok Ads, who may place their own cookies via our site. These advertising tracking cookies are only activated with your explicit consent.

You can adjust your cookie preferences at any time using the provided mechanism (icon or “Cookie Settings” link on the site via Didomi CMP) or by changing your browser settings to block or delete cookies. Warning: If you decline certain cookies (especially functional ones), your browsing experience might be degraded, and some site functionalities might not operate fully.

Web Beacons and Tracking Technologies

In addition to cookies, we may use web beacons or integrated tracking scripts from third-party platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, or Google). For example, the integration of the Facebook Pixel or similar tags on our pages allows us to track the actions of visitors who clicked on one of our advertisements on these social networks. This helps us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and optimize our marketing efforts.

The data collected via these pixels on our site (e.g., the fact that a user visited a certain page) is anonymous to Milesopedia – we cannot personally identify you through this information alone. However, this data may be associated by the social network with your user profile on their own platform. For example, if you are logged into your Facebook account, Facebook can link your visit to our site to your profile to subsequently offer you targeted advertisements. These processing activities are governed by the privacy policies specific to these platforms (we invite you to consult them: Facebook Data Policy, LinkedIn Privacy Settings, Instagram Privacy Policy, Twitter Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Rules, etc.).

Remarketing Opt-out: If you do not want these social networks to use data from our site to present you with targeted advertisements, you can generally disable remarketing features directly on these platforms. For example, Facebook offers an option to disable personalized ad audiences in your ad preferences (a Facebook account is required). Similarly, you can adjust your ad settings on Google, TikTok, etc. Note that even in the absence of these personalized advertisements, you will continue to see advertisements, but these will not be tailored to your presumed interests.

Web Analytics and Audience Measurement

We use web analytics tools to better understand traffic on our sites and improve the user experience:

  • Google Analytics: provided by Google LLC, this tool places analytical cookies (volatile and persistent) to collect anonymous statistical information about site usage. For example, Google Analytics can record how many visitors go to a given page, how long they stay, and other aggregated interactions. We do not send any nominative information (such as your name or email address) to Google Analytics. Your IP address is anonymized before being stored (Google truncates IP addresses in Analytics reports). Google Analytics persistent cookies automatically expire after two years if you do not return to the site. For more information, consult Google Analytics’ Privacy Policy.
  • Microsoft Clarity: this is a behavioral analytics tool provided by Microsoft, which allows us to understand how users interact with our pages (for example, by producing anonymous “heatmaps” showing where users click or scroll). Clarity can record certain browsing sessions in an anonymized manner to help us identify usability issues. Clarity does not record personal information and is compliant with GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Our Clarity account is integrated with Google Analytics to cross-reference usage data in a more in-depth manner. To learn more, you can consult Microsoft’s site on Clarity and its compliance with laws.

These tools provide us with aggregated statistical reports that help us improve our sites (for example, detect the most visited pages, understand user journeys, resolve technical errors). Important: We do not seek to individually identify users through these analyses and do not examine Clarity or Analytics data to trace back to a specific person, unless necessary to investigate malicious behavior.

Your Choice: You can decline the use of Google Analytics and other analytical cookies by not consenting via the Didomi cookie banner during your visit. Google also offers an opt-out add-on available for most browsers, which will prevent Google Analytics from functioning during your visits to all websites (see the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on page). Similarly, you can block Clarity by declining analytical cookies via Didomi or by using third-party script blockers. Note that declining these tools will not affect your access to our content, and we will ensure to provide you with an equivalent service even if you choose not to be included in our audience analyses.

(Disabling Analytical Cookies: If you change your browser settings to refuse all cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being saved, some features of our sites may not function optimally. Please consult your browser’s help section to manage cookie and JavaScript preferences.)

Social Media and External Content

We are present on various social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, etc.) to communicate with our community. If you choose to follow or interact with our pages/profiles on these platforms, please note that your interactions are public and visible to all users. For example, if you leave a comment or click “Like” on one of our posts, this information may be visible to others.

We encourage you to consult the terms of use and privacy policies of each social media platform before publishing personal information there. Milesopedia is not responsible for the content or practices of these third-party platforms.

However, if you mention Milesopedia or interact directly with us via these services, we may have access to certain information from your profile (in accordance with your privacy settings on these platforms) and the content of your messages/comments. These exchanges may be used to respond to your requests, obtain engagement statistics (e.g., number of “Likes”, shares, etc.), or as part of marketing initiatives.

Moderation: We reserve the right to moderate or delete any comment or message you post via our official social media channels if it violates applicable laws or our rules of conduct (netiquette). For example, any hateful, defamatory, or unlawful content will be removed and may be reported to the competent authorities if necessary.

Please note that any content you publish publicly on social media becomes voluntarily public on your part. If you do not wish for information to be widely disseminated, avoid sharing it on these platforms. To learn about your rights and options on these networks (e.g., privacy settings, right to deletion), please consult their own documentation.

Online Payments

If you make a purchase or payment via one of our sites (for example, for a product or service offered by Milesopedia), please note that we use the secure payment platform Stripe to process credit or debit card transactions.

Transaction Security: All payment transactions made on our sites are encrypted and secured via Stripe. Milesopedia never stores your complete payment card information on its servers. Payment data (card number, CVV, etc.) is transmitted directly and securely to Stripe, which processes it in accordance with the strictest industry security standards (PCI-DSS compliant, etc.). Stripe is widely recognized for its reliability in online payments and is used by many companies, including those operating on WordPress, Shopify, and other platforms.

By choosing to make a payment on our sites, you consent to the transfer of information necessary for Stripe to execute the transaction (purchase amount, billing information, payment card information). This data is used solely to facilitate the transaction and combat fraud.

If you have any questions regarding the security or processing of your payments, please consult Stripe’s Privacy Policy or contact us.

Data Security and Hosting

Milesopedia takes the security of your personal information very seriously. We have implemented physical, technical, and organizational security measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, or destruction.

Hosting and Infrastructure

Our websites are hosted on secure servers provided by Kinsta, an enterprise-grade managed WordPress hosting provider. Kinsta ensures continuous infrastructure monitoring and applies robust security measures, including:

  • Updates and Patches: Regular updates to the platform and software to ensure that no known vulnerabilities compromise the security of our sites.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Proactive intrusion detection, perimeter protection (firewall, malicious IP filtering), and attack prevention systems (e.g., DDoS mitigation via Cloudflare integration).
  • Isolated Environment: Each site is isolated in a containerized environment, preventing a vulnerability on one site from affecting others.
  • Certifications: Kinsta complies with industry security standards, including SOC 2 Type II certification for its security controls, as well as ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification for its information security management system. These certifications attest that Kinsta adheres to high standards for data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The hosting of your data may vary depending on the site:

  • Data collected via milesopedia.fr is hosted on servers located in Paris, France (which facilitates GDPR compliance for our European users).
  • Data from milesopedia.group, milesopedia.com, and ratesopedia.com is hosted in Montreal, Canada.
  • Data from milesopedia.us is hosted in Iowa, United States.

Regardless of the physical hosting location, Milesopedia applies a uniform and strict level of protection to your personal information. If personal data of European users is transferred outside the European Union (for example, to be processed on a server in Canada or accessed by our team in Canada), we ensure that this transfer complies with GDPR, notably via: (i) the use of countries recognized as adequate for data protection (Canada benefits from an EU adequacy decision for personal information processed in the context of commercial activities), and/or (ii) the implementation of appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses when necessary. Similarly, for data of Canadian or American residents, we ensure that our providers outside these jurisdictions offer comparable protections.

Internal Access and Confidentiality

Within Milesopedia, only authorized employees and collaborators who need to access your personal information as part of their duties may do so. Each is subject to a strict confidentiality obligation. A violation of this obligation could result in disciplinary measures, up to and including termination of employment.

We regularly educate our team on best practices for data security and protection (training, internal policies) to ensure a high level of vigilance. Despite all these precautions, it is important to note that no data transmission over the Internet and no electronic storage system is 100% infallible. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, we make every effort, in accordance with industry standards, to protect your personal information. In the event of a security incident involving your data (e.g., security breach), we will follow applicable legal procedures, including notifying you and the competent authorities (such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d’accès à l’information du Quebec, and in Europe the competent data protection authority) when required by law.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only for the duration necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or to comply with applicable legal requirements.

In practice:

  • Information related to your newsletter account (such as your email address and preferences) is retained as long as you remain subscribed to our communications. If you unsubscribe, we will delete or anonymize your data from the mailing list after processing your request, unless legally obligated to retain it longer.
  • Analytical tracking data is retained in accordance with our tools’ settings (e.g., Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months in an aggregated format, unless otherwise configured).
  • Records from contest or contact forms may be retained until the purpose for which they were collected is fulfilled (e.g., until a contest closes and prizes are awarded) and for a reasonable period thereafter in case of questions or disputes, then deleted.
  • Server logs containing IP addresses and connection logs are generally retained for a brief period (a few weeks) unless they must be kept longer to ensure site security or comply with a specific legal obligation.

When personal information is no longer necessary, we ensure its secure deletion or irreversible anonymization so that it can no longer be associated with an identified individual. If we anonymize data (in compliance with laws, including the new provisions of Law 25 in Quebec which recognizes anonymization as an alternative to destruction), we may retain this anonymous data indefinitely without notifying you, as it no longer constitutes personal information.

Sharing Personal Information with Third Parties

Milesopedia does not sell your personal data to third parties. We share your personal information only under the circumstances and with the categories of recipients described below:

  • Service Providers (Processors): We use certain trusted third-party companies to help us provide our services or process your data on behalf of Milesopedia, for example:
  • Web Hosting: As mentioned, your data is stored on Kinsta’s servers.
  • Newsletter and Email Management: We use the Klaviyo platform to manage our newsletter mailings and email communications. If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address and, where applicable, your first name/last name and preferences, are stored in Klaviyo. Klaviyo is a US-based company specializing in email marketing, committed to complying with data protection laws (including GDPR for European users, via Standard Contractual Clauses). Klaviyo uses your data only on Milesopedia’s instructions and not for its own benefit.
  • Internal Management Tools: We may use cloud productivity tools such as Notion to organize our internal operations (e.g., tracking user requests, content planning, contest management). It is possible that some information about you (e.g., your name and email address if you participated in a contest or contacted support) may be stored in these tools. These providers (Notion Labs Inc., based in the United States) act as processors and are contractually obligated to preserve the confidentiality and security of the data we store there.
  • Analytics and Advertising: As detailed above, we use services such as Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity for analytics, and Google/Meta/TikTok for targeted advertising. These companies may collect browsing data via our sites, sometimes acting as independent data controllers (especially for their own advertising purposes). We ensure that the use of these services complies with laws (e.g., obtaining consent for advertising cookies). We do not communicate identifiable personal data to these partners without your consent. For example, we do not provide advertisers with your name or email; we only allow them to operate cookies or pixels via our site, in accordance with your consent settings.
  • All our service providers are carefully selected based on their ability to protect your data. Each is bound by a contract that requires them to process your personal information on our behalf, according to our instructions, and to keep it confidential and secure.
  • Partners with Your Explicit Consent: In some cases, we may offer you services or promotions in collaboration with third-party partners (e.g., a contest organized with a sponsor, a special offer from a commercial partner). If you decide to participate and provide us with personal information in this context, we will inform you at the time of collection that your data may be shared with this partner, and we will only do so with your explicit consent (e.g., by checking an acceptance box indicating that you agree to share your data with the named partner). The partner, once the data is transmitted with your agreement, will become responsible for its subsequent use (we then advise you to consult their own privacy policy).
  • Legal Obligations and Corporate Transactions: Milesopedia may disclose your personal information if required by law or in the context of legal proceedings, for example in response to a court order, a subpoena, or any binding governmental request. We may also share your information if necessary to assert our legal rights, protect the security of our users or our sites, investigate fraud, or a potential violation of the law. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Milesopedia (hypothétiquement), your personal information could be transferred to the successor or new owner as part of the transaction. Should such a situation arise, we will ensure that the party receiving your data commits to respecting confidentiality standards equivalent to ours, and we will inform you of any change of control involving your information.
  • Third-Party Advertisers (Advertising Cookies): As indicated in the Cookies section, third-party advertising companies may display ads on our site. These companies (e.g., advertising networks) may collect non-identifiable information about your visits to our site and other sites to measure ad effectiveness and offer you relevant ads for products and services that may interest you. This information never includes your name, postal address, email, or phone number, but may concern your browser, device, pages visited, visit duration, etc. If you prefer not to participate in this type of behavioral advertising, please refer to the Cookies section above to learn how to disable them (via the consent panel or your browser).

Aside from the cases mentioned above, Milesopedia will not share or disclose your personal information to third parties without obtaining your consent, unless permitted or required by law (for example, under a specific regulatory exception). Notably, we do not sell your data or exchange it for remuneration for marketing purposes independent of our partners. Should we consider such sharing in the future, we would inform you beforehand, and you would have the option to consent or object.

User Rights Regarding Personal Data

In accordance with applicable laws in Canada, Quebec, France, the European Union, and certain states of the United States, you have several rights regarding your personal information. Milesopedia is committed to respecting and facilitating the exercise of these rights uniformly for all our users, regardless of their place of residence. Your main rights are as follows:

  • Right of Access: You have the right to ask us if we hold personal information about you and to obtain an intelligible copy of it. This allows you to verify the information we have collected about you and to ensure that it is accurate and used in accordance with the law. Upon request, we will also provide you with information about the purposes of processing, the categories of data held, the sources of this data (if not provided by you), and the categories of third parties with whom we may have shared it.
  • Right to Rectification: If you find that some of your personal data in our possession is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated, you may request its correction or update. For example, if your email address has changed or if there is a spelling error in your name, we will make the appropriate changes.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: For any processing based on your consent (e.g., sending newsletters, or placing analytical/advertising cookies), you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. This withdrawal will not have retroactive effect on the legality of the use of your data already performed, but we will cease the processing concerned for the future. For example, if you no longer wish to receive our promotional emails, you can click on the unsubscribe link provided in each email or contact us directly – we will then remove your address from our mailing list. Similarly, you can manage your cookie consents via our Didomi tool at any time.
  • Right to Object: Regardless of consent, certain laws (including the GDPR and Law 25 in Quebec) give you the right to object to certain processing of your personal data, at any time, for reasons related to your particular situation. For example, you can object to your data being used for profiling or direct marketing purposes. If you exercise this right, we will cease the contested processing unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue it (e.g., legal or contractual necessity) that override your interests and rights.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You may request the deletion of your personal information from our files, to the extent permitted by law. This right applies, for example, if the data is no longer necessary for the initial purposes, if you have withdrawn your consent and there is no other legal basis for processing, or if you believe that we have processed your data unlawfully. Note that this right is not absolute: we may retain certain information if required by law (e.g., invoices, proof of transactions) or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. In all cases, if we cannot fully comply with your erasure request, we will explain the reasons to you.
  • Right to Restriction of Processing: This right (provided by the GDPR) allows you, in certain circumstances, to ask us to freeze the use of your personal data, meaning to store it without temporarily using it. This is the case, for example, if you dispute the accuracy of your data (while we verify and rectify if necessary), or if you have exercised your right to object (while we determine if our legitimate grounds justify continued processing). When the restriction is applied, we will only process your data with your consent or for important legal grounds.
  • Right to Data Portability: For information that you have directly provided to us and that we process by automated means based on your consent or under a contract, you have the right to ask us to provide it to you in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable electronic format, so that you can reuse it elsewhere. Where applicable, you may also ask us to transmit this data in this format to another data controller of your choice, if technically feasible. Portability applies only to certain data (primarily the “raw” data you have provided, such as your profile information, and not to internal notes we may have generated).
  • Right Not to be Subject to Automated Decision-Making: As mentioned above, Milesopedia does not make decisions having legal or significant effects on you based solely on automated processing (without human intervention). Should this change, you would have the right to request human intervention, express your point of view, and challenge the decision.

These rights may vary slightly depending on the jurisdictions, but Milesopedia is committed to offering you at least the protection equivalent to the highest applicable standard. For example, even if you are a user in the United States where not all these rights are mandatory, we will honor valid requests for access, deletion, etc., to the extent of our capabilities. Similarly, California residents have similar rights under the CCPA, such as the right to know the categories of personal information collected, the sources, and the use made of it, the right to request deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for having exercised these rights. We confirm that we do not discriminate against users who exercise their rights (e.g., we will not refuse service or apply any penalty because you have requested access or deletion of your data). Furthermore, since we do not sell your data, the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information is de facto respected at Milesopedia. If in the future we were to consider sharing your data in a manner that could be considered a “sale” under the CCPA (or a “share” for targeted behavioral advertising), we would implement a clear opt-out mechanism (e.g., a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link).

Exercising Your Rights or Contacting Us

Personal Information Protection Officer: Milesopedia’s President and Founder, Jean-Maximilien Voisine, acts as the Data Protection Officer within our organization. Any request relating to your personal information (access, correction, deletion, withdrawal of consent, etc.) or any question concerning this Policy can be addressed to our privacy officer.

Here are our contact details dedicated to privacy inquiries:

  • Email: confidentialite@milesopedia.com
  • Mailing Address:
    Les Services Milesopedia Inc.
    4388 rue Saint-Denis, Bureau 200
    Montreal, QC, H2J 2L1
    Canada

To protect the confidentiality of your data, we may ask you to confirm your identity or provide additional details before processing a request to exercise rights (for example, verifying that the email address in the request matches the one we have on file, etc.). This is to ensure that we do not disclose your personal information to an unauthorized person.

We strive to respond to any valid request as quickly as possible, and in any event within the deadlines prescribed by law. For Quebec and Canada, we will generally respond within 30 days of receiving your request (except in exceptional circumstances justifying an extension, which would then be communicated to you). For the European Union, the deadline is also one month, extendable by two months if necessary given the complexity of the request, but we will keep you informed.

If you have concerns about how we process your personal information or if you believe that we have not responded satisfactorily to your request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority in your jurisdiction. For example:

  • In Quebec, this is the Commission d’accès à l’information (CAI).
  • In Canada (federal), the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
  • In France, the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).
  • In California, the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) for the CCPA.

However, we invite you to contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve your issue directly in good faith.

Limits to the Scope of this Policy

This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by Milesopedia via our sites mentioned above. Our sites may contain links to external websites or third-party services that are not under our control (for example, links to partner sites, advertisements, or references to external sources). If you click on a link leading to a third-party site, please be aware that our Privacy Policy does not apply to that third-party site. Navigation and interactions on any other site are subject to that site’s own rules and policies. We recommend that you consult the privacy policies of each third-party site you visit.

Similarly, if you voluntarily provide information directly to a third party via an integrated interface on our site (e.g., a payment processed by Stripe, event registration via a third-party widget, etc.), your data may be collected directly by that third party under its own policy. Milesopedia assumes no responsibility for the practices of these external sites or services.

Policy Updates

This Privacy Policy may be modified occasionally to reflect changes in our practices, technological evolution, or to comply with new legal or regulatory requirements. In case of a substantial update, we will display these changes clearly on this page and modify the “Last Updated” date below. If the changes are very significant, we may also inform you by a notice on the homepage of our sites or by email (if you have provided us with your address).

By continuing to use our sites after these modifications come into effect, you acknowledge having read and understood the updated Privacy Policy and agree to comply with it. We encourage you to periodically consult this page to stay informed of our privacy practices.

Last Updated: January 2026.

If you have any questions regarding this Privacy Policy or the protection of your personal information at Milesopedia, please do not hesitate to contact us (see the section Exercising Your Rights or Contacting Us above).
