The Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is a modern establishment located in the residential district of Nieuw-West in Amsterdam.
For this trip to Amsterdam, I absolutely wanted to try the Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and I hoped to be upgraded to the “737 Suite”… Dreaming is still free!
Originally, I was only supposed to stay one night in Amsterdam and had booked the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel for €82. But in the meantime, my plans changed. For my other three nights, I changed hotels and headed to the Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
I paid for the first night with my annual 35,000-point certificate plus an additional 2,000 points (37,000 points total). My second night was also booked with points, this time for 33,000 points. Finally, the third night was paid with 1,526 AIR MILES and $18.49 in fees.
The Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is located in the Nieuw-West district. This area was established in 2010 following the merger of three former neighbourhoods. The hotel is less than a seven-minute walk from metro lines 50 and 51, which take you to Amsterdam Lelylaan Station for easy access to the airport. It’s also less than a seven-minute walk to tram line 2, which takes you to the centre of Amsterdam and all its top tourist attractions in under 25 minutes.
Before my arrival, I had contacted the hotel manager to ask him to combine my three reservations into one in order to stay in the same room for the entire duration of my stay.
Upon arrival, the staff member confirmed that I would be staying in the same room for my entire stay, but that the last night would not count as an elite night since it was booked through Expedia (Airmiles). Additionally, forty-eight hours before my arrival, I noticed that I had been upgraded to a Junior Suite without having requested it.
The hotel lobby is spacious and has several comfortable armchairs, as well as two large areas for working (with electrical outlets). A large pitcher of fresh water is always available. The 24/7 convenience store is located very close to the reception.
Here are the extras received thanks to my Platinum status
In the junior suite, you’ll find a very large bed, a work desk, a coffee maker / kettle area, two armchairs, a television with several channels, ample storage space, a safe, and everything needed to iron clothes. Very practical: an umbrella in the room, which can be borrowed and/or purchased.
The junior suite is located on a corner, so it has windows on two walls. However, the view overlooks the parking lot of a hardware store.
The tiny bathroom includes a toilet, a sink, and a shower. An interesting feature: it has an infrared ceiling heater with a timer. Two bottles of water are offered for the stay. As the water in Amsterdam is potable, they suggest refilling the bottles with tap water.
Mondi is the hotel’s only restaurant. Its menu primarily consists of Caribbean cuisine. It is open for lunch (12:30 PM / 4:00 PM) and dinner (5:30 PM / 10:00 PM). This is where the buffet breakfast is offered from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM every day of the week.
The menu is varied and flavourful. The breakfast staff are especially friendly and efficient. Despite a 10% discount offered to hotel guests for lunch and dinner, I only tried this restaurant for the breakfast buffet.
The bar-lounge located at the back of Mondi is open from 12:30 PM and closes at midnight. With colourful decor and an evening DJ, the atmosphere is festive. Prices are reasonable for a hotel bar.
Open 24/7, it is well-equipped for daily workouts. Free access for hotel guests.
Open 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM (cleaning break between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM). The cost is €19 for hotel guests, valid for the entire duration of the stay.
Admission includes access to the heated pool, Turkish hammam, two saunas (steam and dry), and relaxation rooms with beach or waterfall themes.
Extras: massages and facials. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM, access is exclusively reserved for women. For Platinum members and above, an access voucher is offered for the duration of the stay.
Booking available on site at a cost of €18 per day.
The hotel does not have a meeting room per se, but offers to organize birthdays, office parties, or meetings at the Mondi restaurant.
Located in a residential neighbourhood, there are few restaurants nearby, but several local businesses such as grocery stores, discount shops, and barbershops can be reached within a 10-minute walk. The area is known for its large green spaces. The Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is easily accessible by metro or tram.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Being able to relax at the spa after a long day of walking and sightseeing was fantastic! However, I do wonder if I would have paid 19 euros for the spa without a “coupon”; I think the pool should at least have been complimentary.
I also really appreciated the elite status recognition and the upgrade to a Junior Suite without having to request it. My highest praise goes to the breakfast staff at Mondi; they go above and beyond to ensure guests are happy and everything is perfect.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again for its price and convenient location near the centre of Amsterdam. And who knows, maybe next time I’ll be lucky enough to get upgraded to the 737 Suite!
