To the point Transport Canada has announced an expanded agreement between Canada and the United Arab Emirates to increase the number of flights between the two countries.

Air travel between Canada and the United Arab Emirates is the primary market for air travel to the Middle East and a gateway for travel to Asia.

As announced on the government page, this expanded agreement will increase capacity to 21 flights per week per country to better meet the needs and demands of the airline market. Until now, the established limit was 14 flights per week per country.

This is the second time this agreement dating back to 1999 has been expanded, with the last update in 2018.

To give you a picture of the current flights, the routes are as follows:

Origin Destination Frequency Carrier
Toronto Dubai 7 times a week Air Canada
Dubai Toronto 5 times a week Emirates
Abu Dhabi Toronto 6 times a week Etihad Airways

Emirates in Montreal?

Nothing has been announced yet, but we have noticed that Emirates will be holding two recruitment events in Canada shortly, in Montreal on April 24, 2023, and in Winnipeg on April 26, 2023.

Does this mean possible connections between Montreal, Western Canada and the United Arab Emirates? We have no answer or confirmation at this time, but this would be great news, especially since it is now possible to book and earn Aeroplan points on Emirates.

To make us dream a little, here are some reviews of flights on Emirates :

Bottom Line

This announcement is good news for anyone looking to visit the Middle East, and even for those looking to explore Asia as increased service means there will be more flight options (and seats to book with points, hopefully!) in the near future.
