New Aeroplan Partner

Flydubai is the new Aeroplan partner! The Dubai, United Arab Emirates-based airline follows a long list of new Aeroplan airline partners over the past three years: Aeromar, Air Mauritius, Oman Air, Gulf Air, Eurowings Discover, Air Dolomiti, Virgin Australia, Vistara, Azul, Air Serbia, Etihad and Emirates. It is the third airline in the United Arab Emirates to partner with Aeroplan (along with Etihad and Emirates).

This new partnership enables Air Canada to offer greater connectivity for its flights between Toronto and Vancouver to Dubai. This will allow Aeroplan members to fly to other destinations in the region.

Founded in 2008, Flydubai is the low-cost division of Emirates.

Flydubai, renowned for its extensive network from Dubai, serves over 110 destinations in more than 50 countries, covering the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Caucasus, Central and Southeast Europe, and the Indian subcontinent.

The airline is distinguished by its modern fleet of over 75 Boeing 737 aircraft, configured in two classes, including fully reclining seats in business class.

Moreover, specific aircraft launched at the end of 2023 will feature a brand-new business class called Business Suite. It’s rare for single-aisle aircraft to offer aisle access for every passenger.

Although Flydubai is a low-cost version of Emirates, economy seats retain features like the entertainment system.

How to redeem Aeroplan points with Flydubai

Here are the details you need to know when booking Aeroplan reward flights on Flydubai :

  • Flights are priced according to Aeroplan’s special chart for Emirates (and not the airline partners’ chart).
  • Members will be able to book Flydubai flights on aircanada.com, on the Air Canada mobile application or via the Aeroplan Centre.
  • These flights may be combined with flights operated by Air Canada or other international airline partners
  • Flydubai flights are eligible for redemption in Economy and Business class cabins
  • Partner booking fees will apply to flight rewards including travel on Flydubai ($39)

Here is the Aeroplan flight reward chart for Emirates and Flydubai:

Based on this flight reward chart and a quick calculation using the GCMAP tool, here are some examples of fares you can get with Flydubai when redeeming your Aeroplan points from Dubai:

Destination Distance Economy Business class
Delhi – India (DEL) 1,360 miles 15 000 – 35 000 30 000 – 77 500
Malé – Maldives (MLE) 1,885 miles 15 000 – 35 000 30 000 – 77 500
Zanzibar – Tanzania (ZNZ) 2,421 miles 21 000 – 65 000 45 000 – 140 000
Krabi – Thailand (KBV) 3,104 miles 21 000 – 65 000 45 000 – 140 000

These flights are now available on the Air Canada website. As you can see, fares are identical between Emirates and Flydubai. Above all, it gives you more options when it comes to scheduling (and travel comfort).

Bottom Line

The addition of Flydubai to the Aeroplan program means more flight options and connectivity from Dubai. Don’t forget that you also have the option of adding a stopover in Dubai to an international flight by taking advantage of the “Aeroplan stopover” for just 5,000 points.

However, it’s a pity that Flydubai has a special chart in common with Emirates. This may make some flight rewards rather expensive.
