After flying First Class on British Airways with my Avios miles for my outbound flight, here I am on my return flight to Montreal on a Star Alliance member Lufthansa A330 in First Class.
This flight was funded by 70,000 Aeroplan miles This flight was financed by Aeroplan Miles, a great deal in terms of the services offered, which easily surpass the experience on British Airways! To know how I set up this itinerary, you can read this article.
In my last report, we were left with the transfer to the tarmac in a Porsche Cayenne, the privilege of being in first class on Lufthansa.
Having just arrived from Frankfurt, I head to the First Class lounge at Munich Airport.
The lounge offers a limousine service directly to the boarding gate. Very practical!
All relaxation areas have a view of the tarmac! Very nice for an Avgeek like me!
Drinks are offered at each relaxation area.
I decide to sit down to see the service offered. In passing, you can see the envelope of my First Class ticket, which allows the staff at the boarding gate to identify the passengers “to be boarded in priority”.
Here is the small menu available at the beginning of the afternoon.
A nice selection of champagne and wines.
The choices offered at the buffet are excellent.

I return to my table for dinner. I chose light dishes… because I should be feasting soon in flight.

For cigar lovers, the lounge also offers a room to enjoy a cigar (offered by the company of course).
Or many strong alcohols.
Also, a wide selection of magazines available in English or German.
Before leaving the living room, a quick trip to the bathroom, always very classy.
As you can see, the spaces are pleasant and the materials chosen are high end.

Outdoor areas are also available with pleasant seating and views of the tarmac.

I arrive at my gate. I was supposed to be the only one in First Class…. but 7 people were upgraded that day from business class (all frequent travelers for Siemens, Mercedes and BMW… Montreal Grand Prix obliges!).
The cabin will therefore be complete!
My flight today. You will notice the two boarding tunnels: on the left for First and Business Class passengers, on the right for Economy Class.

Once on board, what strikes me is the space given to passengers in First Class. Here are the seats 1k and 2k. I’ll be sitting in seat 2k (deliberately chosen to not be near the kitchens and toilets).

Everything is carefully arranged: the rose, a quality screen, an ottoman that can store everything you may need in flight.

There is even a bar available at the front of the cabin.
Shortly after being seated, the flight attendant calls me by name (which is very nice!) and offers me a glass of champagne and an aperitif.
Seeing me taking a lot of pictures, I explain to her that I am the head of a specialized blog and she offers me to take some pictures of me to immortalize the moment.
She will then bring me a pair of pajamas in my size, as well as slippers and the traditional travel kit.
High-end La Prairie treatments are offered.
I put all my stuff in the ottoman in front of me: computer, plugs, shoes… everything fits.
A small glimpse of the (touch) remote control for the screen – and the beautiful socks offered by the German company.
The menu is brought to me and to my surprise, it is proposed in three languages: German, English, French. A real plus!

Here is a small view of the screen, much better defined than the one proposed on British Airways. A very large selection of movies, TV series, and live channels.

WIFI is also available on board for less than 20 euros. I choose not to connect to it, wishing to take advantage of this flight to “disconnect”!
Shortly after takeoff, a wipe is brought to me to refresh me.
And a glass of Château Latour.
And a small appetizer.
Lufthansa’s First Class specialty: caviar!
A good dose of caviar is served with the traditional accompaniments.

The caviar is followed by a parade of dishes:

And a nice selection of cheeses, my favorite!
Accompanied by dessert and coffee.
A Lufthansa flight is only a few hundred meters apart. We fly a little bit faster: it will take us a good hour before we pass him!
A small zoom on this plane:
Before resting, a small turn to the toilets to see the space granted. Meanwhile, the hostess will have made my bed.
There is a seat to sit on, which is nice for changing. The sink is big… and there is the traditional rose, present everywhere in the First Class cabin.
And there are misters and many beauty products.

Back to my seat, I discover a bed. The hostess added a mattress to make it even more comfortable. She also took out the Bose QC15 headset (helps reduce ambient noise).
Small souvenir photo with my mask on my head!
A view from the seat, installed in bed.
Before falling asleep, I take a look through the window… we just passed the other flight!
4 hours later, I wake up! I am offered a second service which I decline. Well… I’ll just have dessert and a new coffee (the 8th one of the day…).
We soon arrive in Montreal, the landing is announced under a driving rain.
As an aviation enthusiast, you can probably guess from these articles: this was my best air travel experience.
The outbound trip was already top-notch on British Airways, but the return trip was a step above: the service on the ground and in the air was simply remarkable, as was the product offered by Lufthansa and Star Alliance.
That’s why we at milesopedia love the Aeroplan program so much: without Aeroplan miles, it would have been impossible to book an experience like this unless you spent several thousand dollars!
If you need advice on how to set up this type of trip, don’ t hesitate to ask your questions in our Facebook group!
Here, I needed American Express with Membership Rewards (transferable to Aeroplan miles) and my Scotiabank American Express Gold card (which allowed me to pay Aeroplan taxes with the Scotia Bonus points).
