To the point The AC Hotel Burlington is modern, bright, and well-located, but its minimalist rooms lack personality and the workspace remains limited. Here is my review of this hotel.
  • Central location
  • Bright lobby and pleasant dining area
  • Well-equipped gym
  • Room: uninviting, limited storage and workspace
  • Limited parking, requiring valet service

The AC Hotel Burlington opened its doors on September 18, 2025, and I was curious to check it out, especially since Burlington is often our home base for mountain getaways in Vermont. My experience is mixed: the service was impressive, valet parking was quick, and the common areas, especially the dining space, felt bright and welcoming. However, the rooms lack character, offer limited storage options, and have a small workspace.

Booking

At the time of our visit, the room rate was USD 175 per night or 20,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. This is excellent value for the area, especially in December. Prices rise significantly in the summer, which is typical for Burlington. Since the hotel just opened, it is also taking a more competitive pricing approach, making it especially appealing for a low-season stay.

Arrival

Location

The AC Hotel Burlington is located in the heart of downtown Burlington, just steps from the iconic Church Street Marketplace pedestrian zone and only a few minutes from Lake Champlain. Many restaurants, cafés, and shops are within walking distance, making it easy to get around without a car. It’s an ideal location if you enjoy strolling, soaking up the city’s vibrant atmosphere, or exploring downtown. For travellers who want to combine city life with nature getaways to the Vermont mountains, the hotel is a convenient and well-situated base.

Check-in and Lobby

When we arrived, since the hotel does not yet have adjacent parking, we used the valet parking service (USD 25 per 24 hours), which was quick and efficient. We then took the elevator up to the second floor, where the lobby is located.

The front desk is set in a spacious, bright, and welcoming area. Right nearby, you’ll find the Marriott Market, which is convenient for picking up small items. On the same floor, there’s a large open space where you can wait for your room, relax, or meet up with other guests.

The dining area is also located on this floor. It’s the same space, which simply goes by a different name depending on the time of day: AC Kitchen in the morning for breakfast, then AC Lounge in the evening with a small menu of dishes and cocktails. The gym is also accessible directly from this level, making everything convenient and easy for guests to access.

Room

The room makes a clear impression: everything is new, clean, and well put together, but overall it lacks character. The minimalist style is taken so far that it feels almost clinical. You walk in, look around, and nothing really catches your eye. It’s functional, but not very inspiring.

The storage setup is surprising: there’s an open wardrobe at the entrance with no door, and the space to hang your clothes is directly above the coffee maker. It’s unusual and not very practical, especially if you want to let damp clothes dry. There’s only one drawer for the entire room, located at the bottom of this same unit. You quickly notice there isn’t enough space to settle in.

The mini-fridge is located in the counter under the bathroom sink… a first for me. Overall, it feels more like a space-saving compromise than a layout designed for comfort.

There’s no real desk, just a small round table with two chairs. This definitely limits your options if you need to work. There’s also no sofa to relax on, so you end up spending most of your time in the bed, which has to serve multiple purposes. The bed faces the window to highlight the view, but it’s only a partial one; the windows aren’t floor-to-ceiling or very wide, which reduces the intended effect.

The TV is mounted on a side wall with a swivel arm. You can turn it, but the position still feels awkward, especially since the headboard isn’t designed for sitting up comfortably for long periods. As a result, you end up watching TV while half lying down.

The air was especially dry during our stay, which made for a less restful night. Several safety features also remained lit even in the dark, casting green and red lights that can disturb light sleepers. It’s a small detail, but one that matters when you’re looking for a calm atmosphere.

In the end, it was a room where we didn’t spend much time. The space is modern and new, but not very inviting and not really designed for anything other than sleeping.

Restaurants

The dining area makes a great first impression. The ceiling is high, there’s plenty of natural light, and the space offers several areas to sit, whether you want a quick meal or a quieter moment. It’s a pleasant, well-designed space where you feel comfortable right away.

In the morning, the space transforms into AC Kitchen. The buffet is balanced and well presented, with two à la carte options available as well. The full breakfast is offered at $24 per person. Since we chose breakfast as our welcome gift thanks to Titanium Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy, we didn’t have to pay anything, which saved us about $50 per day for two people. The quality is good and it’s easy to have a satisfying meal. The experience is straightforward, efficient, and consistent with what you’d expect from the AC brand.

In the evening, the space becomes AC Lounge. The food selection remains limited, but it’s a convenient option if you want to stay on site. The bar offers a good selection of drinks, with enough variety to enjoy a cocktail in a relaxed atmosphere before heading out or going back to your room. It’s not a culinary destination, but it’s a great spot to wind down at the end of the day.

Other Services

Gym

The fitness centre is a pleasant surprise. The space is large, bright, and well ventilated, creating a very comfortable atmosphere for working out. The equipment is varied and in excellent condition, with everything you need for a full workout, whether you prefer cardio or strength training. For a hotel in this category, it’s definitely above average. There’s plenty of room, even during busier times, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.

Around the Hotel

The AC Hotel Burlington is located right in downtown Burlington, just steps from Church Street Marketplace, the city’s iconic pedestrian street filled with shops, cafés, restaurants, and a lively, welcoming atmosphere.

Just a few minutes’ walk away, you’ll find the Lake Champlain waterfront and the docks, perfect for a sunset stroll, a boat outing, or simply relaxing by the lake.

Thanks to this central location, it’s easy to combine city outings with outdoor or cultural activities, all without needing a car. For those who enjoy strolling, dining downtown, exploring local shops, or simply soaking up Burlington’s atmosphere, the hotel is the perfect home base.

Overall Impression

Overall, my stay at the AC Hotel Burlington was mixed. The hotel benefits from an ideal central location right in the heart of Burlington, with a bright and welcoming lobby, a pleasant dining area, and attentive service. The quick valet parking and professional staff add real comfort to the experience.

However, the rooms lack personality and options for working or relaxing other than in bed. The minimalist design and some surprising details, such as the mini-fridge in the bathroom and limited furniture, restrict comfort for an extended stay. The hotel’s general atmosphere remains pleasant but quite standard, without distinctive elements that give the establishment character.

In summary, the AC Hotel Burlington is a functional and comfortable option for a short urban stay, but it does not fully succeed in creating a memorable experience for travellers seeking a more lively or inspiring place.
