How it works

Thanks to this new partnership, Air Canada and Emirates customers will enjoy access to 46 markets serving three continents, including destinations in the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Emirates was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It serves more than 130 cities on six continents through its hub in Dubai. The company also operates the world’s largest fleet of Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 wide-body jets.

In Canada, Emirates only lands at Toronto Pearson International Airport. It is only from this airport that the flights of this partnership will take off.

As of today, tickets for multi-code flights will be offered for sale in 35 markets for travel starting December 1. A further 11 markets will be added once final regulatory approvals have been granted, and possibly more thereafter.

Customers will be able to buy their tickets on the websites of carriers aircanada.com and emirates.com, as well as through major global distribution systems (GDS) and travel agencies.

This promising new partnership with Emirates will enable Air Canada to significantly increase the choice of flights we offer our customers. It will facilitate connections between Canada and destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. It will also give us the opportunity to attract more connecting traffic to our global hub in Toronto, and increase our presence in these dynamic regions where demand for international travel is expected to grow.

Michael Rousseau, président et chef de la direction d'Air Canada

We are delighted to establish a partnership with Air Canada, to expand our reach into more points in North America. This partnership with Canada’s national carrier will enable us to offer customers hassle-free connections in Toronto when travelling within Canada. In addition to the exciting benefits and rewarding experiences that leisure and business travellers on both carriers can expect, the partnership will enable Air Canada customers to travel anywhere in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, thanks to our extensive network and hub in Dubai.

Sir Tim Clark, président d'Emirates

Emirates customers will be able to book multi-code flights to and from the following Canadian cities (excluding Toronto): Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.

Air Canada will add its code on Emirates’ routes from its Dubai hub, expanding its presence throughout the Indian subcontinent. Thus more destinations will be available such as Colombo, Dhaka, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.

Air Canada customers will also have access to hassle-free connections for travel including :

  • in Southeast Asia: Bangkok, Hanoi, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore,
  • in the Middle East: in Jeddah and Muscat,
  • in Africa: in Addis Ababa and Dar es Salaam.

This will enhance the customer experience by issuing a single ticket for a typical Montreal-Dubai journey purchased via Air Canada (thanks to a codeshare): for example, from Montreal to Toronto on Air Canada flights, then Toronto to Dubai on Emirates flights. Baggage will be automatically directed to the final destination.

Finally, Aeroplan and Skywards members will soon be able to earn and redeem points on flights operated by Air Canada and Emirates. Eligible passengers will be able to reciprocally access lounges such as the Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto, even with a ticket for a flight with Emirates, and obtain certain privileges under both carriers’ programs when flying with the partner carrier.

Bottom Line

Thanks to this operating agreement, it is now possible to book a paid flight from Toronto to Dubai for travel starting December 1. More details will be provided shortly. Stay tuned !
