Gone are the days when you had to go to a travel agency, ticket office, or even carry your computer with you to book your flights. With the Air Canada/Aeroplan app, it’s easier than ever to do it anytime, anywhere, from your smartphone.
Are you new to Aeroplan? For a better experience start by reading our Aeroplan beginner’s guide and create your account before using the application.
You can download the Air Canada + Aeroplan app from the Google Play Store for Android phones or the App Store for iPhones.
Once you’ve completed this step and before you begin your flight search, we recommend that you log in to your Aeroplan account so you can use all the application’s features.
The Air Canada/Aeroplan app is divided into four sections:
Go to the “Book” section of the application and the “Flights” tab at the top. Select your departure and destination airports. You can also search by city, but the city must be associated with an airport to be listed. If you search by country, a list of different airports will appear, and you will need to select one.
Then, in the calendar, select your departure and return dates. For a one-way trip, you can select a single date and press “Continue”. Next, you can choose the number of passengers to include in your booking, with the option of including up to 9 passengers in total. For group bookings, please use a travel agency.
Once you’ve launched your search, all available results with prices are displayed. You can sort and filter the results by tapping on “Sort Filter” in the bottom right-hand corner. This allows you to find the right flight for you, based on various parameters: price, duration, schedule, number of stopovers, aircraft type, etc.
By sliding the results to the left of the screen, you can compare prices by fare class: Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class.
When you click on a flight, you’ll be able to see in greater detail the different fares for each fare class and the flight details, i.e. aircraft, flight number, duration, stopovers, airlines, and so on.
Once you have selected your flight and fare, you can proceed to the payment page.
Please note: For multi-destination searches, with a stopover or requiring more advanced filters, it’s best to use a browser, either on a computer or a tablet. The Air Canada app is ideal for quick searches and bookings.
Before you begin your search, we recommend that you consult the “Aeroplan” section of the application, so that you fully understand the number of points you have, and what privileges are available to you (priority rewards, eUpgrades, flight credit), if any, as this may influence your choice of flights and fare class.
To book a flight using points, simply perform the same search as for cash flights, but select the “Use my Aeroplan points” option. Even if you don’t have any points, you can at least find out about point prices for the dates and destinations you’re looking for.
Please note: To use your eUpgrades, see our guide: How to save on Business Class with Aeroplan eUpgrade Credits.
Once you have selected your flight and fare, you can proceed to the payment page. You will then be asked to choose the level of points redemption that suits you best, and proceed to payment.
You can use the Air Canada and Aeroplan application for many other reasons. For example, it’s a good idea to activate the notifications to receive updates on your flight: modifications, delays, gate changes, etc. Plus, it’s now possible to track your checked baggage from the app. These notifications can greatly enhance your travel experience.
Please note: If your flight is on Air Canada but was booked from another website, you will need to manually add your booking in the “Travel” section in order to receive notifications. Similarly, a flight booked via Air Canada but on board a partner airline will not necessarily give you all the same information as mentioned above.
The “Aeroplan” section offers the following information at a glance for each member:
By clicking on the icon in the top right-hand corner of the Aeroplan section, you can also adjust your account settings, such as payment methods, partner links, password and other security parameters.
The “Travel” section of the application shows you at a glance all your upcoming trips that have been booked via Air Canada, and Air Canada reservations booked elsewhere that you have manually added.
To modify your reservation, tap on it to access the details, then tap on “Manage reservation”. This will take you to the Air Canada website, where you can change a flight, cancel the reservation, change your selected seat, apply eUpgrades if you have status, and much more.
The day before your flight, you can check in directly in the app and choose your seats without having to wait in front of a computer. Most of the time, you can simply use your phone as a boarding pass, which is available at any time in the app after check-in.
If you have baggage to check, you can indicate this at check-in, but you will still have to go through the counter when you arrive at the airport.
Your boarding pass is available in the application once check-in is complete.
If you have an iPhone, I recommend adding it to your Apple Wallet so you can access it quickly and avoid connection problems if you don’t have Wi-Fi or a network.
The Air Canada application is a great way to quickly search for flights and make reservations without using a computer. When you’re on the road, you can have all the information you need at your fingertips, and make changes as needed. Finally, it also serves as a quick tool for checking your Aeroplan points balance, viewing current offers, and all the other benefits you can enjoy, status-related or otherwise.
