To the point The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is not just a hotel, it's a full experience. Spectacular views, an outstanding spa, panoramic pool and fitness centre, and probably one of the best breakfasts offered at a Marriott hotel in Tokyo for Platinum+ members. Here is my review of this hotel.
  • Spectacular panoramic views
  • One of Tokyo’s most beautiful spas and pools
  • Gourmet breakfast included for Platinum and above
  • Very spacious room and remarkable bathroom
  • Very high rates, both in cash and points

Tokyo from the heights

Tokyo, a fascinating мегacity where tradition and modernity intertwine at every turn, reveals itself here from a breathtaking vantage point. Perched in the upper floors of the Tokyo Midtown tower, The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo offers expansive spaces, spectacular panoramic views, and a unique sense of floating above the city.

From the restaurants and terraces to the spa and pool, every space is designed to highlight these exceptional views, creating a fully immersive luxury experience. The hotel combines contemporary elegance, refined design, and subtle Japanese influences, offering an unmatched vantage point over Tokyo.

During that same stay, we also discovered the AC Hotel Tokyo Ginza, a more intimate and functional experience, illustrating the diversity of the hotel offering and the contrast in atmospheres in Tokyo.

Booking

The rates at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo are high, unsurprisingly.

During our stay, prices were around ¥120,000 per night (≈ CAD $1,070). In Marriott Bonvoy points, expect between 94,000 and 154,000 points per night, depending on season and demand.

The rate is very high, but the experience is consistent with this positioning, especially when considering Platinum+ benefits, including breakfast.

Arrival

The reception at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is located on the 45th and 46th floors, where the common areas, restaurants, and relaxation spaces are also concentrated. Upon arrival, you feel the impression of an oasis suspended above the city: abundant natural light, water features, artwork, plants, and live music in the evening (sometimes piano, sometimes guitar).

The space spans the equivalent of two floors, enhancing the feeling of openness and calm, despite the ultra-dense urban environment.

Room

We stayed in a 1 King, Skyline View, corner room, and it is clearly one of the hotel’s highlights.

The room is spacious and very bright, with exceptional views over Tokyo by day and by night. The desk area is generous and perfectly suited for work, the espresso machine is a real plus, and the overall layout conveys comfort and elegance without being ostentatious.

The bathroom deserves a special mention.

Two full stations with counter, sink, and storage space, a separate shower, a large bathtub, an enclosed toilet, plenty of space, and lots of natural light. It is one of the best bathrooms we have had in Tokyo, across all hotels.

As a welcome amenity, the hotel offered sakurako, traditional Japanese sweets often associated with meaningful or symbolic occasions. A simple gesture that felt perfectly aligned with the spirit of the property.

Restaurants

Towers

The Towers restaurant offers one of the best breakfasts we have had, in Japan or anywhere else. The value is ¥5,800 per person (≈ CAD $52), offered to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members and above, which is exceptional for a Ritz-Carlton.

Remarkable quality: meats and fish, eggs prepared to order, sushi, meticulous presentations, very fresh products.

A gourmet breakfast, without compromise.

Other Restaurants

In addition to Towers, the hotel offers several other restaurants and bars, including Hinokizaka, highly rated and appreciated for its refined cuisine. Although we did not try them, they are worth considering for those who want to explore Japanese gastronomy without leaving the hotel.

Other Services

Spa

The spa at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is exceptional, in the purest Japanese tradition. Photography is prohibited, which reinforces the intimate and respectful character of the experience.

Facilities include:

  • Heated Japanese onsen-style pool
  • Cedar wood dry sauna
  • Coral stone sauna
  • Relaxation areas

Inspired by Japanese onsen, the spa offers separate men’s and women’s facilities and follows local tradition, which includes nude bathing. A total immersion in culture and relaxation.

Swimming Pool

The pool is stunning, offering spectacular views over the city. Bright, elegant, and serene, it is exactly what you would expect at this level.

FIT gym

Very comprehensive, modern, and once again with an impressive view over Tokyo. Cardio, strength training, a well-ventilated space: it is hard to find better in an urban setting.

Club Lounge

Access to the Club Lounge is not automatically included with Marriott Bonvoy status. It is reserved for Club rooms or guests who have paid for specific access. An important point to clarify to avoid disappointment.

Running in Tokyo

The hotel offers genuine support for runners, and that’s a detail I particularly appreciated.

At the reception:

  • Maps with different running routes
  • Towels
  • Cold water
  • Protein bars
  • Protein drinks

Available in the morning only, but it is a rare touch, even in high-end hotels. For active travellers, it is a real differentiator.

Around the Hotel

Staying at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo means experiencing Tokyo at its peak, literally. From the 45th to the 52nd floor of the Midtown Tower in Roppongi, the hotel offers unique panoramas of Tokyo. From our room, we admired the contrasts: modern skyscrapers, traditional shrines, and, on clear days, Mount Fuji on the horizon.

The hotel’s location is prestigious and convenient. Subway and buses are just a few steps away, making it easy to explore central neighbourhoods like Shibuya, Asakusa, and Ginza, as well as outlying destinations like Nikko.

Roppongi is full of restaurants reflecting Tokyo’s culinary richness: modern izakayas, counter sushi, discreet ramen shops… We took advantage of this diversity on foot, making every outing simple and enjoyable.

Tokyo’s exemplary cleanliness is impressive: immaculate streets, neat sidewalks, and meticulously maintained public spaces, even in the busiest thoroughfares.

Finally, nature is always close by. The parks of Akasaka, Hamarikyu, and Shiba, quickly accessible from the hotel, are a reminder of how much the city values tranquillity, even in the heart of the urban buzz.

Overall Impression

The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is an exceptional address for those who want to experience Tokyo from the heights. The experience rests on three very clear pillars: spectacular views, high-end facilities, and ultra-refined service.

This is not a discreet or accessible hotel. It is a signature property, bold, expensive, and exceptionally well executed. For Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members and above, the included breakfast alone significantly changes the value proposition.
