To the point The changes to Aeroplan 's fare structure came into effect on March 25, 2025. Seven partner carriers, including United Airlines and Etihad Airways, now adopt dynamic pricing.

Aeroplan - Overview of Upcoming Changes

As of March 25, 2025, Aeroplan has introducing new fare structures for award flights on select airline partners.

The main change concerns seven partners who have adopted dynamic pricing, similar to that in place for flights operated by Air Canada.

The Affected Partners

The following international airline partners have undergone these changes:

  • Emirates
  • Etihad Airways
  • Flydubai
  • United Airlines

And regional airline partners in Canada:

  • Calm Air
  • Canadian North
  • PAL (Provincial Airlines)

These changes result from special agreements between Aeroplan and these carriers. While the rates may increase, Aeroplan promises better award ticket availability on these flights.

New Fare Structure

To simplify its price structure, Aeroplan has replaced the current price ranges with two new tariffs: a base tariff, identical to the current minimum values, and a median tariff based on members’ trading history.

Median fares will be updated every three months. They will only apply to flights within North America and will not be displayed for international flights or First Class.

In addition, the carriers affected by the changes (United, Etihad, PAL and others) will now be grouped together under the Air Canada and Select Partners in the new rewards fare chart.

The fixed fare structure remains unchanged for all other airline partners.

Finally, Aeroplan Elite members and co-branded credit cardholders retain their current preferential rates on points bookings.

New Reward Chart - United

For example, if we search for the flight Montreal-San Francisco for August 2025, we can see that the price of the United flight has risen compared with the old reward chart, where it would have cost 12,500 points in Economy and 25,000 points in Business class. However, for business class, this is still the best option compared with Air Canada. And in this case, United Airlines flight prices remain below the median price of the new flight reward chart.

With United Airlines’ extensive network, the new dynamic pricing is likely to be quite different from one destination to another and from the median price, depending on demand and availability.

New Reward Chart - PAL Airlines

Between Sept-Îles and the city of Quebec, flights on PAL Airlines posted a constant price of 15,000 points in September, up significantly on the previous partner price of 6,000 points, and above the median price of 10,200 points.

New Reward Chart - Flydubai

A non-stop flight between Dubai and Milan (BGY) costs 43,200 points in Economy class and 141,800 points in Business class on board Flydubai. According to the reward chart, for a flight of 2,883 miles in the Atlantic zone, it would cost 25,000 points Aeroplan in Economy class and 45,000 points in Business class with another fixed-price partner. This represents a substantial increase in the price of the 6-hour flight in points.

New Reward Chart - Etihad Airways

As of March 25, 2025, Etihad Airways is restoring full access to its inventory of Business Class seats for bookings with Aeroplan points. However, the situation remains unchanged for First Class seats: their availability remains very limited.

Our initial research suggests that availability is still scarce in business class, at least for the Toronto-Abu Dhabi route. Here, the non-stop flight on March 26, 2025 is priced at 79,500 points in economy class, and 220,900 points in business class well above other partners’ fixed prices at 55,000 points in economy and 90,000 points in business class.

However, we have found Etihad Airways flights that meet the 55,000-point price Aeroplan in economy class on certain dates. We’ll be keeping an eye on availability over the next few days to see if any new business class seats become available.

What Does This Mean?

For Aeroplan members who intend to use their points on these airlines, it may be worthwhile to try to find award flights before March 25, 2025 to guarantee points fares.

Tools like Roame are useful to help you find award flight availability before the changes take effect, or good points fares when pricing becomes dynamic.

Bottom Line

Since March 25, 2025, seven of Aeroplan’s partners, including United Airlines and Etihad Airways, have adopted dynamic pricing similar to that of Air Canada.
