In our 48 hours of coast-to-coast travel, the only night we stayed in a hotel was here at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

A hotel connected to the airport

One of the big advantages of this hotel is that it is connected to the terminals of the Toronto Airport. Very convenient for people like us who are in transit, especially for early morning flights (7am in this case). This eliminates the need for a shuttle or cab to nearby hotels.

It is also connected to the UP Express which provides a quick trip to downtown Toronto, which we did for dinner.

We arrived there around 11pm. The reception was done in less than 2 minutes. We learn that we have been upgraded to Marriott Bonvoy Gold status. We will have a room on the Club level with a view of the slopes and access to the lounge.

Before going to our room, we make a small detour to the lounge to get some food.

The lounge of this hotel is very convenient with different areas to relax or work.

The snack area allows you to find something to nibble on at any time. This is where members with access to the lounge can have breakfast.

Unfortunately we will not have time to have lunch here, we will have it in the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.

Well, with an arrival at 11pm and a departure at 5am, we did not enjoy the view on the tarmac! Matthieu was still able to catch a glimpse of the Eva Air B777 that will take him to Taipei a few weeks later!

During the day, the view from the room gives this:

At night, it’s more like this:

This is Sheraton. Very functional and well appointed. The bathroom is still a bit old-fashioned, but there is no lack of towels.

What a surprise to discover this on the bedroom furniture:

A beautiful cheese/fruit platter with a nice bottle of finish and a note “Congratulations milesopedia”!

In fact, the hotel concierge had seen our article announcing our 48-hour trip to celebrate milesopedia’s 2nd anniversary and took the trouble to print our logo on a beautiful card! Hats off to you!

Bottom Line

This hotel is available for 12,000 starpoints. At the time of our trip, the public fare was less than $180, so we chose to pay rather than use points. This is a great option to keep in mind if you have a long connection at Toronto International Airport. Your Gold SPG status will be recognized here, which is much appreciated!

Here are some cards that can earn you SPG starpoints or Gold status!
