Since the resumption of travel – and the phenomenon of Revenge Travel – the situation at the airports is very complicated, especially when crossing the border with the United States.
Only those who already have NEXUS have priority access and do not necessarily experience these difficulties when leaving Canada for the United States and returning from International countries to Canada. I have not encountered any problems during my recent trips with NEXUS.
From now on, since August 30, 2022, it is possible to use the Mobile Passport Control application from two Canadian airports: Montreal-Trudeau and Toronto-Pearson! A totally free service.
The Mobile Passport Control application is available on the following app stores:
When you start the Mobile Passport Control application, the operation is explained.
The process is very simple. You can add (and save) your passport, and those of your family members (up to 12 family members).
This is particularly convenient since even children can benefit from the Mobile Passport Control application and priority lanes in the relevant airports (which is not the case with NEXUS).
You will get a QR code that will be valid for 4 hours. If you are entering the U.S. from Montreal-Trudeau or Toronto-Pearson, you can do this before you leave home or once you arrive at the airport.
If you are arriving in the United States from an international flight, you will need to do this once you land before you get to the customs line.
The Mobile Passport Control application can be used at 38 entry points:
This is great news for travellers from Montreal-Trudeau and Toronto-Pearson to the U.S. who do not yet have NEXUS. This allows everyone who has this application to have access to a priority line.
In my previous experience in American airports that already had this Mobile Passport Control application (Boston and Newark), there was surprisingly little waiting: only a few savvy travellers had this app!
