To the point You can now transfer your Avios from the Qatar Airways Privilege Club to the Marriott Bonvoy program at a rate of 2:1.

Marriott Bonvoy continues to develop its partnerships with airlines.

After announcing a bilateral agreement between Aeroplan and Marriott Bonvoy in September, it is now Qatar Airways ‘ turn to offer its customers the possibility of transferring Avios from Qatar Airways Executive Club to Marriott Bonvoy.

Six airlines use Avios as currency in their frequent flyer programs: British Airways, Qatar Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling. With the exception of Aer Lingus and Vueling, you are free to transfer Avios between your different accounts.

This flexibility allows you to book with the partner of your choice, according to availability and points prices.

Convert Your Qatar Airways Avios Into Marriott Bonvoy Points

So far, members could already transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Qatar Airways and many other airline partners. Now, the reverse transfer is also possible.

At a rate of 2:1, you can transfer points from your Qatar Airways Executive Club account to your Marriott Bonvoy account. Each member can transfer between 1,000 and 500,000 Avios per day.

To do so, follow the instructions on this page.

The terms and conditions state that the transfer may take up to 8 weeks to complete, so plan well in advance if you intend to make an exchange.

In addition to Qatar Airways, it is also possible to transfer miles to Marriott Bonvoy from the following airlines:

  • Japan Airlines
  • Singapore Airlines
  • United

Reminder: Earn Avios When You Stay With Marriott Bonvoy

For several years now, members of both programs have been able to earn 1-2 Avios for every US dollar spent on an eligible room rate at a Marriott Bonvoy hotel. Meals and other expenses are not included in the calculation of points.

To start earning Avios for every stay, simply update your Marriott Bonvoy profile with Qatar Airways Executive Club as your accumulation option.

It is also possible to collect miles from many other airlines. Full details can be found on this page.

Should I Transfer My Points?

According to Milesopedia, the value of a Marriott Bonvoy point is estimated at 0.9 cents, while an Avios is worth around 1.7 cents. From a purely mathematical point of view, transferring Avios to Marriott Bonvoy (especially at a 2:1 rate) may seem disadvantageous.

However, this valuation is only an average and can vary considerably depending on how the points are used. The value of points is also very personal.

For example, if you have plenty of Avios and lack the Marriott Bonvoy points to book the accommodation of your dreams, a transfer could make sense.

Assess your personal situation and calculate whether the transfer is really in line with your objectives. Always avoid speculative transfers without a specific project in mind.

And remember that American Express credit cards earn Marriott Bonvoy points fast!

Bottom Line

Thanks to this new partnership, Marriott Bonvoy and Qatar Airways Executive Club members can now transfer their points according to their needs, whether for an airline ticket or a hotel stay. Although the rate is not advantageous, some flexibility in transferring points is always appreciated.
