Air Canada Rouge: Boeing 737 MAX Enters Service Today

Air Canada Rouge: The Boeing 737 MAX
To the point Air Canada Rouge welcomes its first modernized Boeing 737 MAX 8: individual entertainment, free Wi-Fi, and reclining seats.

Air Canada reaches a major milestone today in modernizing its fleet: the first Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Air Canada Rouge livery officially enters service.

A transformation that promises a significantly improved onboard experience for Canadian travelers on vacation routes in North America and the Caribbean.

A cabin renewal that truly changes the experience

Gone are the shared screen or lack of connectivity on sun destination flights. With the entry into service of this first 737 MAX 8 at Rouge, passengers now benefit from:

  • Individual entertainment screens at every seat
  • Fast and free Wi-Fi, sponsored by Bell
  • Reclining seats for all passengers, without exception

The cabin configuration includes 12 business class seats, 18 preferred seats with extra legroom, and 147 standard economy seats.

A culinary experience with Canadian flavors

Beyond technology, Air Canada Rouge focuses on a distinctly Canadian taste experience. Wine, beer, including non-alcoholic beer, and snacks from Canadian brands are offered free of charge on all flights in North America and the Caribbean. On the menu: MadeGood bars (on flights before 10 a.m.), TWIGZ pretzels, and Leclerc Célébration cookies.

Vancouver: A new crew base to support Western Canada

Alongside this launch, Air Canada inaugurated a new Rouge crew base in Vancouver today. This strategic decision aims to support the growth of vacation destinations from Western Canada, including the announced return of winter flights between Calgary and destinations such as Cancún and Puerto Vallarta.

For travelers from British Columbia and Alberta, this is excellent news: access to more direct sun destination flights is being consolidated, with modernized aircraft as a bonus.

45 Boeing 737 MAX at Rouge by the end of 2026

This first aircraft is just the beginning. Air Canada plans to integrate 45 Boeing 737 MAX into the Rouge fleet by the end of 2026. In parallel, the Airbus A320 and A321 currently operated by Rouge will be modernized according to Air Canada’s latest interior standards.

The upgrade also extends to regional flights: Air Canada Express aircraft, operated by Jazz, will also receive new cabins and next-generation Wi-Fi.

Major deliveries expected in 2026

The fleet transformation doesn’t stop there. Here is an overview of aircraft expected soon:

Bottom Line

This modernization is excellent news for Aeroplan points holders. Rouge flights, long perceived as a less premium option, now align with the comfort standards of Air Canada’s main fleet. If you’re planning a sun destination trip this winter or spring, it’s a good time to use your Aeroplan points for these destinations, as the renovated aircraft will be progressively deployed across the entire North American and Caribbean network.

Note that Rouge business class (12 seats) can represent very good value when redeemed with points, especially on routes such as Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, or the southern United States. Keep an eye out for availability.

The entry into service of the first Boeing 737 MAX 8 at Air Canada Rouge marks a real turning point for the passenger experience on Canadian vacation routes. Between free Wi-Fi, individual screens, reclining seats, and Canadian products onboard, the offering has significantly improved. With 45 aircraft coming by the end of 2026 and an international fleet in full growth, Air Canada is laying the foundation for a more consistent and competitive offering, good news for all Aeroplan members.
