Aeroplan expands its partner network with the addition of ITA Airways, now allowing members to book reward flights directly on aircanada.com and the Air Canada mobile app. Members can use their Aeroplan points on ITA flights alone or combine them with Air Canada and other partners, although point accumulation and status benefits will only be available after ITA joins Star Alliance in 2026.
ITA Airways flights can be booked in three ways with your Aeroplan points:
Bookings including ITA Airways are subject to Aeroplan’s standard partner booking fees.
This integration allows combining ITA segments with Air Canada flights and other Aeroplan partner carriers on a single ticket, offering more flexibility to create complex itineraries to Italy and beyond.
The partnership with ITA Airways opens access to over 20 destinations in Italy, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. ITA’s main hubs are Rome-Fiumicino and Milan, offering connections to popular Italian domestic destinations and international cities.
No, earning Aeroplan points on ITA Airways flights is not yet available. This feature, along with Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) accumulation and Aeroplan status benefits, will only be activated after ITA Airways’ official entry into the Star Alliance, scheduled for 2026.
For now, Aeroplan members can only redeem their points for ITA flights, with no possibility of earning them on paid tickets.
ITA Airways flights follow the Aeroplan partner award chart, with prices varying by region and distance. Les frais de réservation partenaire de 39$ CAD par passager s’appliquent aux itinéraires incluant ITA Airways.
Here is an example of a non-stop Rome-Toronto flight on ITA Airways:
And several flights between Nice and Rome, for 7,500 points in Economy Class and 15,000 points in Business Class:
ITA Airways is expected to join Star Alliance in 2026, according to official Aeroplan communications. This membership will automatically activate Aeroplan points accumulation, Status Qualifying Credits (SQC), and Aeroplan Elite status benefits on all ITA flights.
Once a Star Alliance member, ITA Airways will also offer access to Star Alliance lounges for Aeroplan 50K members and above, as well as benefits such as priority check-in and priority boarding depending on your status level.
The addition of ITA Airways to the Aeroplan partner network marks a significant expansion of travel options to Italy and beyond. While some features like point accumulation are not yet available, the ability to book ITA flights with Aeroplan points already offers considerable value to program members.
With ITA’s planned entry into Star Alliance in 2026, this partnership will only improve, offering even more benefits to Canadian travelers. Air Canada already offers numerous flights to Italy, including non-stop flights from Montreal to Naples, starting in May 2025. It’s time to combine multiple Italian destinations into one trip! For Aeroplan members, this is excellent news that expands the possibilities for using (and soon earning) their points.

The initial codeshare partnership between Air Canada and ITA was announced in July 2025, but Aeroplan point redemption has been active since February 2026.
Yes, a partner booking fee of CAD $39 per passenger applies to all itineraries including ITA Airways. These fees are standard for bookings involving non-Star Alliance partner carriers. Once ITA joins Star Alliance in 2026, these fees may be adjusted according to Aeroplan’s policies in effect at that time.
No, Aeroplan eUpgrades cannot be used on ITA Airways flights. eUpgrades are exclusively reserved for flights operated by Air Canada. To travel in Business Class on ITA, you must directly book an award flight in Business Class or purchase a higher class ticket.
The availability of ITA Airways flights can be checked directly on aircanada.com by performing an award flight search. Enter your departure and arrival cities, select “Book with points,” and available ITA flights will appear in the results along with Air Canada and other partner options. The Air Canada mobile app offers the same functionality.
