Until April 30, 2026, enjoy a bonus of up to 80% when purchasing IHG One Rewards points. The lowest price per point (US$0.005) applies starting at a purchase of 5,000 points.
Remember that Iberostar Resorts all-inclusive hotels are part of the IHG hotel chain, allowing you to redeem your IHG One Rewards points for free nights at these all-inclusive hotels!
This is a recurring promotion that returns every month, with a variation in the bonus percentage. The last bonus was just as generous and could reach 100% at the end of October 2025.
While there is no longer a credit card linked to the IHG One Rewards program in Canada, it is still possible to accumulate points:
We do not recommend buying points during regular periods. However, it can be worthwhile if you have a concrete use planned in the coming months, especially when the bonus offer can reach up to 80%.
You can normally buy up to 150,000 points IHG One Rewards per calendar year (before bonus). For this promotion, the cap is increased to 200,000 points purchased (before bonus).
With a bonus of up to 80%, this can represent up to 360,000 points in total.
The points purchase transaction is in U.S. dollars. For Canadian residents, add sales tax (and QST for residents of Quebec).
We recommend using a credit card that does not charge foreign currency conversion fees to save 2.5% in fees on this points purchase, as is always the case with the current promotional offer. Here are the two best cards in Canada:
The answer to this question is… Yes and no.
In Canada, we do not have the advantage of credit cards that allow us to accumulate IHG One Rewards points directly or indirectly (unlike the multiple credit card options to earn Marriott Bonvoy points).
Buying IHG One Rewards points can be a worthwhile solution only when you have a very specific goal in mind.
Milesopedia values IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 US cents (or approximately 0.62 Canadian cents), but with a promotional bonus, their effective value can be much higher.
Buying IHG points can therefore be interesting for some, especially if you have a specific travel goal or if you want to top up your points balance to get a free night.
With the current promotion, you can get up to 80% bonus points, but the offer is targeted, so not all members will necessarily receive the maximum.
If you are not in one of these situations, we advise against buying points and instead suggest prioritizing other programs like Marriott Bonvoy, where it is much easier to earn points through credit cards!
The current promo offers up to an 80% bonus when purchasing IHG One Rewards points until April 30, 2026. Since award night prices are dynamic, buying points can be a good strategy only if you have a specific booking in mind (or if you need to top up your balance for a free night) and the math works out versus paying cash. Otherwise, it is best to avoid buying “to stockpile” and wait for a more generous offer (often 80–100%) before reassessing.
The current promotion is valid from April 7, 2026 to April 30, 2026, with a bonus of up to 80% depending on the account.
The displayed bonus is generally up to 80%, but the offer may be targeted, so the percentage can vary from one member to another.
The cap is increased during the promo: you can buy up to 200,000 points (before bonus), which can yield up to 360,000 points in total with an 80% bonus.
It can be worthwhile if you have a specific booking and the cost in points (even purchased) is cheaper than the cash rate, especially at expensive hotels or during peak demand.
The purchase is processed by Points.com (often in US dollars), so a card with no foreign transaction fees is ideal to avoid about 2.5% in FX fees, such as the Scotiabank Passport™ Visa Infinite* Card.
