We decided to take a romantic getaway to the Hotel de Bourgtheroulde, Autograph Collection, over the Christmas vacation while visiting family in the area; we loved our stay at this luxurious hotel. Here are the details.
The Bourgtheroulde hotell is ideally located for a car-free stay, 10 – 15 minutes walk from the train station (1 hour by train from Saint-Lazarre, Paris) and very close to all tourist attractions.
What to see in Rouen? The city is full of museums and historical sites. You can admire the Notre Dame cathedral, for example, visit the antique dealers’ district with its colourful houses, stroll in the gardens of the City Hall or have a coffee on the Place du Vieux-Marché!
The Hotel de Bourgtheroulde – Autograph Collection is the only 5-star hotel in Rouen. This 15th-century building is a listed historic property with many services that we will describe below.
It is possible to stay there from 31,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. Remember, the best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is to be a Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Cardholder (and/or Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Cardholder).
In addition to the exceptional welcome bonus of each of these two cards, you’ll earn 2 points per dollar on all your purchases and 5 points per dollar at any of the Marriott establishments. On top of that, every year, you’ll receive a free hotel night certificate (worth 35,000 points) and 15 Elite Night Credits toward your Marriott Bonvoy status.
We were lucky and were able to get an upgrade to a Prestige King room upon our arrival, thanks to our titanium status. This hotel has only one suite, the Prestige King room, which is very large for European standards.

The hotel has 8 types of rooms, all different in decoration, size and view:
We were given a very warm welcome. The concierge kept our suitcases as we had arrived early in the morning in Rouen and umbrellas were made available to us, because in Normandy… it rains a lot!
An aperitif was offered to us afterwards: a glass of bubbles and amuse bouche, a stay which starts very well.
The Prestige King room is sober and elegant, with a light wood panel where the bed is located. It is a 40m2 room with king size bed.
It should have had a sofa bed, but instead there were two Voltaire type armchairs.
We also have all the essentials: safe, ironing board and iron, tea and coffee service and a minibar.
It also includes a marble bathroom with a separate shower and bath in an antique style. Bathrobes and slippers were waiting for us on a chair.
Our room was so quiet even though the hotel is located in the center of town. Superb soundproofing and a beautiful fênestration give a view on the restaurant’s terrace.
Two room cleaning services are done during the day: morning and evening.
The evening service takes care of making beds, changing towels, dropping off candy and water bottles, and dimming the lights. The staff was charming and welcoming (with the small care).
We used the service for in-room dining; no surcharge was added to our room bill (to be checked if contextual to the COVID pandemic).
The hotel offers a gourmet restaurant with traditional French cuisine, Restaurant Aumale.
If we had to note one thing to improve, it would be the atmosphere of the restaurant Aumale. Well suited for lunch, but not for dinner, where you feel like you are in a cafeteria.
The common room with the Atrium bar is beautiful and is located on two levels. Many works of art and antique furniture are arranged magnificently.
Interesting detail, the window on the floor overlooks the pool!
A terrace is also available for meals, but we could not test it as we were in winter and it was raining.
We had breakfast offered with our elite status.
If you order drinks at your hotel’s bars and restaurants, don’t forget to charge these expenses to your room bill, earning up to 17.5 points per dollar based on your Marriott Bonvoy status!
When you leave, pay with your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card to earn 5 points per dollar!
The Hotel de Bourgtheroulde – Autograph Collection has a 700 m2 treatment area! The Spa du Drap d’Or and swimming pool are above the rest; it includes a sauna, a hammam, a heated indoor pool, a workout room, and a massage therapy service (with fees).
This space can be accessed by an open elevator that leads directly to it.

The high standard of the room as well as the excellent service we received at this hotel met and exceeded all our expectations. We had an excellent stay there; it must be said that the setting is also for much.
