Last May, I stayed at Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club, an all-inclusive for adults located in the heart of Tulum, Mexico. This eco-chic resort, inaugurated last autumn, features circular buildings surrounded by greenery and cenote-style pools linked by a lazy river.
The 301-room property offers upscale amenities and the Unlimited-Luxury experience for which Hyatt‘s Secrets Inclusive Collection is renowned. It attracts mainly a clientele aged between 30 and 45, couples and groups who want to enjoy the vibrant ambiance of Tulum while benefiting from a high level of comfort.
The complex is located in the Aldea Zama district of Tulum. It’s just a 15-minute cab ride from downtown. If possible, choose to arrive at the new Tulum airport, inaugurated this spring, just 25 minutes from the resort. By comparison, Cancún airport takes around two hours.
From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm welcome and elegant ambiance of the lobby. The bohemian, eco-chic, jungle-inspired design creates an immediately soothing atmosphere.
My suite was spacious and luxurious. It was a suite overlooking a cenote-style pool in the Preferred Club section that comes with concierge service. I particularly appreciated the comfort of the bed and the amenities, which were top-notch. In the bathroom, I had biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent at my disposal. I also appreciated the eco-responsible touch that can be found throughout the resort, and more broadly, in Tulum.
When it comes to dining, there are 10 options, including à la carte restaurants, buffets, a café, a grill and several bars, including a sports bar. I really enjoyed my experience at the Olio restaurant, where I sampled delicious Mediterranean cuisine in a superb setting.
The à la carte restaurants include:
The resort’s private beach club can be reached by shuttle bus from the hotel, some 20 minutes away. On the way I really enjoyed discovering Tulum’s charming downtown area. With a musical ambiance creating a party atmosphere, this beach club boasts two swimming pools and numerous shaded seaside rest areas with Balinese beds. Complimentary food and beverage service.
The complex boasts nine pools, including a lazy river linking the various buildings. The Sky Bar rooftop pool is particularly lively at times. I even saw a DJ foam party there.
Secrets Spa by Pevonia, a three-storey spa, is located in a quiet corner of the complex. It features a dry sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, large heated pool with massage waterfalls, cold soaking pool and even an ice fountain used for exfoliation purposes. Reservations are required and you should plan around an hour to complete the hydrotherapy circuit.
An impressive Temezcal ceremony, conducted by a local Mayan shaman, was also offered to press trip participants. It takes place in the spa’s private courtyard, in a steam-heated hut. This is a ritual of purification and healing in the tradition of the indigenous peoples of Central America.
With over 16,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is also an ideal venue for events and business meetings. In fact, I had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of a rooftop wedding reception.
Nearby to Secrets Tulum, in addition to strolling through the village, you can explore Tulum’s Mayan ruins, snorkel at Yal-ku Inlet, and swim in cenotes.
My stay at Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club was a great success. This all-inclusive haven attracts mainly 30 to 45 year olds and offers a luxurious, romantic setting in harmony with nature. The music reflects the bohemian, electro spirit typical of Tulum. If you enjoy this style, then you can really appreciate the ambiance of this resort.
