Media Food Drive: how to donate

To the point Do you have a credit card that is generous with points or discounts when you shop at the grocery store? In December, participate in the Media Food Drive by making a donation to a food bank at Provigo or Maxi.

The Quebec media unite to participate in the Media Food Drive from November 25 to December 31, 2022.

Their goal? Collect donations to feed people in need of food assistance.

Find out how you can donate non-perishable food items or money using your credit cards.

$5 = 20 meals offered by Moisson Québec

Did you know that one adult in four lives in a food insecure household in the Capitale-Nationale?

In other words:

More than 68,000 people use food assistance each month, 40% of whom are under the age of 18 .

Nearly one in three people who use food assistance earns an income from employment.

In addition to significant inflation in 2022, food assistance agencies are increasingly struggling to keep up with the increase in requests, including those from some families who have used this support for the first time.

So every donation, no matter how small, counts. To give you an idea:

  • With $5, Moisson Québec gives 20 meals to a person or family in need.
  • $10 is equivalent to a Christmas basket given to a family
  • $20 represents 1 week of groceries for 4 people.

For each dollar received, Moisson Québec redistributes the equivalent of $12.25 in food through its food bank network.

Make a donation at a Provigo or Maxi grocery store

Until December 31, 2022, Provigo and Maxi supermarkets are collecting donations of cash or non-perishable food items.

If you are a PC Optimum member, you can check out the app or flyer before your grocery store visit and use it to collect more points on your purchases, then donate a portion to the Media Food Drive when you check out.

Since both of these grocery stores only take Visa and Mastercard, we recommend that you use a cash back credit card such as the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card or a card with a high earning rate at the grocery store like the National Bank’s World Elite Mastercard® which offers 5 points per dollar purchased.

Whether your donation is made in cash by adding an amount to your grocery bill, or in food items that you choose yourself, you will be rewarded in one way or another by using your credit card.

Make a donation online or by text

Pay by credit card by making an online donation to the Media Food Drive or text NOEL to 20222 for an automatic $10 donation.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

Bottom line

By using your cash back credit cards when you visit the grocery store in December, you can donate to a good cause and provide food assistance to those in need.

Since its inception in 2001, the Media Food Drive has raised over $4.5 million and over one million kilos of food in the Quebec City area alone.
