14 Free or discounted restaurants for children

Fewer and fewer restaurants offer free or low-cost meals for children. But there’s still some and here’s the list.

Always check with the restaurant to find out if the promotion is valid and its conditions, as these change rapidly. Please note that the promotions below may end, change or be modified at any time.

Don’t forget an ID card with the child’s date of birth (such as a health insurance card or passport), in case the restaurant needs proof.

What do you do to maximize your birthday or restaurant expenses? These credit cards give 5 points per dollar, which can then be redeemed for other rewards:

• American Express Cobalt^® Card: 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar (5% return or more depending on use)
• Scotiabank Gold American Express^® Card: 5 Scene+ points per dollar (5% return)
• MBNA Rewards World Elite^® Mastercard^®: 5 points per dollar (5% return)
• National Bank World Elite Mastercard^®: 5 NBC points per dollar (approximately 5% return)

Then use those points to deduct from your credit card balance, get gift cards or treat yourself to a nice, inexpensive vacation. Of course, be sure to pay off your credit card balance at the end of each month. Otherwise, the savings will go up in smoke.

3 Brasseurs: On Tuesdays, children 10 and under eat for $3 with the purchase of an adult meal that costs $17 or more! The menu is usually $10.75.

East Side Marios: On Tuesdays, meals for kids 10 and under are $2, with each purchase of any adult entrée of $19.99 or more. Use your Scene+ card to collect points, or redeem 500 Scene+ points for a $5 discount.

Barbies Resto Bar Grill: Barbies Resto Bar Grill offers something free for kids. Every Sunday, it’s free for children aged 12 and under (except on certain popular holidays). During spring break, there may be a promotion where it’s free every day!

Boston Pizza: In September 2023, Boston Pizza had a promotion to buy a $5 card to get 5 free meals for kids. What’s more, throughout the month, meals were free for children. In recent years, children have been able to eat for free during spring break. It remains to be seen whether Boston Pizza will resume these promotions in the near future.

Benny & Co: Get a free kids’ meal with the purchase of a regular-priced main course in the dining room only, every Sunday from 4pm.

Cargo: At all times, children aged 5 and under eat for free at this Matane restaurant.

Eggspress St-Eustache: At certain times of the year, such as during the holiday season, summer vacation or spring break, the menu for children aged 10 and under is 50% off.

IKEA: For IKEA Family members only and every Wednesday until August 31, 2024, children eat for free. This applies with the purchase of an adult meal.

L’Académie: Children 12 and under enjoy a free menu every Sunday. Meal includes beverage and dessert, only at restaurants in Brossard, Laval, Gatineau and Montreal (Rue St-Denis).

La Cage: You must be a Club Cage member to take advantage of this promotion. Every Sunday, the children’s menu for ages 12 and under is $3 with any purchase of $15 or more. This includes a dessert and unlimited drink. This promotion is also often valid throughout spring break.

Pacini : Every Wednesday, meals for children 12 and under are offered at $5 in the dining room.

Pizza Royale : Only available at the Hamel branch, children under 5 get a free all-you-can-eat buffet.

Saveurs des continents (formerly Buffet des continents): Sunday to Friday, free for children aged 5 to 12. On Saturdays, they eat at almost half price. Children under 4 eat for free at all times.

St-Hubert : Sometimes, like during Spring Break until March 17, 2024, St-Hubert offers a $5 meal for children 9 and under. An adult meal must be purchased at the same time.
