Milesopedia Netiquette – General code of conduct

Updated Jan 29, 2026

Discover Milesopedia’s netiquette, an essential charter to ensure respectful and constructive exchanges within our community. Adopt these principles to foster a friendly and enriching environment.

Welcome to Milesopedia, the go-to community for optimizing credit cards, loyalty programs, and travel. To ensure respectful and constructive exchanges, this code of conduct applies to all our online platforms.

Applicable Platforms

  • Milesopedia Group websites
  • Facebook groups and our other social media communities (Reddit, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Comments on articles and any communication addressed to the team (private messages, contact forms, emails, etc.)

Our goal is to provide a space where everyone can ask questions, share tips, and interact in an atmosphere of respect, goodwill, and mutual support.

1. Respect and kindness above all

Respect for Milesopedia members and team

  • Abusive, defamatory, hateful, or discriminatory comments (e.g., racist, sexist, homophobic, or xenophobic in nature) are strictly prohibited. Any vulgar or offensive remarks will be moderated to maintain a courteous environment.
  • No personal attacks are tolerated. Any insult, mockery, or behavior intended to disparage another member or a team member will be immediately moderated. Focus on the content of the discussion, not on the individuals.
  • Adopt a courteous and constructive tone. A sarcastic, condescending, or aggressive tone harms the quality of exchanges and discourages participation. Remain polite, use language understandable by all, avoid writing your messages in ALL CAPS (except for acronyms), and moderate the excessive use of punctuation or emojis.
  • Impersonation is prohibited. Do not impersonate another member or a Milesopedia representative. Impersonating others is a serious offense and will be severely sanctioned.
  • Keep in mind that there is a real person behind every screen. Do not say anything online that you would not be able to say face-to-face, with the same respect and empathy.

Specific rules on sensitive subjects

Debates are welcome and enrich the community, but some topics require a particularly respectful and factual approach:

  • Politics, religion, and controversial topics: these discussions are not allowed, unless they have a direct link to loyalty programs or financial services. Even in that case, remain factual and measured.
  • Reviews of banks, airlines, and hotels: share your experiences constructively and verifiably, without exaggeration or defamation. Well-reasoned and nuanced criticisms help the entire community progress.

In summary, engage with courtesy and open-mindedness. Diversity of opinions is a strength when expressed with mutual respect.

2. Allowed Content and Prohibited Content

Authorized content

Milesopedia encourages constructive exchanges and the sharing of useful information among members. You are invited to:

  • Share your experiences and advice related to credit cards, loyalty programs, travel, and money-saving tips.
  • Discuss promotions, offers, and strategies to optimize the accumulation and use of your points.
  • Ask questions about travel insurance, credit cards, or any relevant financial tool, after checking if the answer is not already available (search function, articles, etc.).
  • Relay relevant news related to our themes (new offers, changes in points programs, etc.), citing your sources if possible to ensure accuracy.

This allowed content aims to foster mutual support and knowledge sharing within the Milesopedia community.

Prohibited content

In order to preserve the quality of exchanges, the following content is prohibited:

  • Unauthorized advertising and personal promotion: do not use our platforms to promote products or services without prior agreement. The sharing of personal affiliate links or referral codes is specifically prohibited (see section 5).
  • False information or unverified rumors: the dissemination of fake news or unconfirmed information is prohibited. Be sure to verify your sources to avoid spreading misinformation.
  • Spam and repetitive messages: do not post the same message excessively or in multiple discussion threads at once. Duplicates harm dialogue and will be deleted. Any attempt to monopolize a discussion to the detriment of other participants is also prohibited.
  • Inappropriate content: any violent, sexual, hateful, hate-inciting, or discriminatory remarks or content have no place on our platforms. This includes harassment, intimidation, and deliberately provocative messages (trolling).
  • Sensitive personal data: never share confidential personal information in our public spaces – whether it’s your own data or that of others (credit card numbers, bank identifiers, phone numbers, postal addresses, private emails, etc.).
  • Illegal content or calls for illicit activities: any content violating the law (apology for crimes, incitement to violence or fraud, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

Any breach of these rules may result in the immediate deletion of the messages concerned, a warning from the moderators, or even exclusion from the community in case of recurrence or serious misconduct. These rules complement those of the platforms we use (e.g., Facebook Community Standards, Reddit rules, etc.), which may also apply their own sanctions.

3. Use of Facebook Groups and Other Community Platforms

Facebook Groups and Affiliated Social Networks

Our Facebook groups (as well as our other online communities, on Reddit, Instagram, etc.) are spaces for mutual support where everyone must contribute to the good spirit of the community:

  • Search first, then ask: before posting a question, use the group or site’s search function to check if the answer has not already been provided.
  • Stay on topic: ensure that your posts match the theme of the group or discussion. Off-topic or derivative subjects may be removed to keep the forum clear and useful.
  • Respect for privacy: do not share sensitive personal information in the group and do not publicly identify someone without valid reason. Do not disclose the content of private communications without authorization.
  • No flooding or cross-posting: avoid posting the same message multiple times in different discussions or publishing an excessive volume of messages in a short period. Duplicates will be moderated.
  • Respect for moderators’ decisions: administrators and moderators are there to ensure the smooth functioning of the community. Their decisions (thread closure, post deletion, warning, etc.) aim to maintain a constructive environment. In case of disagreement, contact them privately to discuss it calmly.

Any message not complying with these rules may be deleted without prior notice by the moderators. By joining our groups and pages, you accept these basic principles for the good of all.

Comments on the Milesopedia Website

Comments published on the Milesopedia.com website (under blog articles, guides, etc.) must also respect netiquette and remain relevant to the article concerned.

In particular:

  • Remain courteous and constructive in your feedback. Well-reasoned criticisms are welcome, but formulate them politely.
  • Aggressive, insulting, or completely off-topic comments will be deleted to preserve the quality of discussions.
  • No spam: any attempt at unsolicited commercial promotion (disguised advertising, personal affiliate link, etc.) will be moderated immediately.

In case of non-compliance, our moderators may delete the offending comment and, if necessary, take additional measures (warning, temporary ban from the comments section, etc.).

4. Confidentiality and data protection

We are committed to everyone’s safety and confidentiality.

  • Never post sensitive personal data publicly. Whether it’s yours or a third party’s, information such as credit card numbers, bank identifiers, passwords, addresses, phone numbers, or any other private information should never be shared on our open platforms. If you need to communicate such information (e.g., for a contest or an offer), use private and secure channels.
  • Respect the privacy of others: do not publicly expose another person’s personal information without their consent (photos, screenshots of private conversations, private content, etc.).
  • Beware of scams and phishing: any attempt to deceive a member to obtain sensitive information (credentials, banking information, etc.) is formally prohibited. If someone tries to extract personal data from you under the guise of Milesopedia, do not respond and report it immediately.
  • If you suspect fraudulent behavior or a possible scam on our platforms, immediately notify the group administrators/moderators or a member of the Milesopedia team. We will take appropriate measures to protect the community.

Everyone must adopt good digital security practices. By protecting your data and respecting that of others, you contribute to a safer environment for all.

5. Rules on sponsoring and sharing affiliate links

Milesopedia is an independent platform partly funded through official affiliate and referral links. To ensure a fair experience for all members, the sharing of personal referral links is strictly regulated on our platforms.

Referrals and Affiliate Links on Milesopedia

  • No personal referral links: it is forbidden to post your own referral links or personal promotional codes (e.g., referral links for an American Express card, an Aeroplan program, Marriott Bonvoy, etc.) on the site, in Facebook groups, or in the comments. This includes any indirect promotion of your links (e.g., inviting members to contact you privately for a referral, etc.).
  • Use official Milesopedia links: only official referral and affiliate links provided by Milesopedia are allowed on our platforms. By choosing to use these links when subscribing, you directly support the site and contribute to the sustainability of quality content accessible for free to the community.
  • Discussions on referral offers: you can discuss various welcome offers or referral promotions offered by banks, hotels, or airlines. However, these discussions must remain general. Do not share your personal links and do not encourage others to share theirs.
  • No circumvention of rules: any attempt to circumvent these restrictions will be sanctioned (unsolicited private messages to promote a link, shortened or coded link concealing a referral, schemes aimed at indirectly inserting self-promotion, etc.).
  • How to benefit from referral offers? If you wish to benefit from a referral offer for a card or program, use the official Milesopedia links available in our articles, comparisons, and guides. You can also ask your questions about these offers: the Milesopedia community and team will guide you to the best option, without self-promotion.

Why this rule?

  • Fairness and quality of exchanges: if everyone posted their own referral link, discussions would quickly become a click-hunting ground rather than a neutral space for mutual support. By prohibiting these links, we avoid harmful overbidding and keep the focus on sharing tips.
  • Transparency and reliability: by only highlighting verified, up-to-date, and Milesopedia-negotiated offers, we ensure that the information shared is reliable and advantageous for members.
  • Support for Milesopedia: the use of official links helps fund the site (employees, servers, content, tools, etc.) without costing you more. It is thanks to this that we can continue to publish detailed guides, analyses, and animate the community for free.

Non-compliance with these rules regarding referrals and affiliations may result in the deletion of the publications concerned, a warning from the moderators, or even exclusion from the community in case of recurrence. We count on your understanding to maintain an atmosphere of disinterested mutual support.

6. Penalties for non-compliance with netiquette

Milesopedia administrators and moderators ensure compliance with these rules across all our platforms. In case of netiquette violation, we may take the following disciplinary measures:

  • Private warning: for a first offense or an isolated inappropriate behavior, you may receive a private message reminding you of the violated rule and inviting you to adjust your behavior.
  • Content deletion: any content violating the rules (post, comment, message, etc.) may be deleted by moderation, with or without prior notice depending on the severity.
  • Temporary suspension: in case of a more serious offense or repetition despite a warning, access to groups, forums, or the ability to comment on the site may be temporarily suspended.
  • Permanent exclusion: if, despite warnings, inappropriate behavior persists, or in case of serious misconduct from the outset (severe harassment, massive spam, proven fraud, etc.), we reserve the right to permanently ban the person concerned from our groups, pages, and comments.

Sanctions are applied with discretion, depending on the severity of the facts and the user’s history within the community. Our goal is not to punish, but to protect all members. In case of a sanction, you can contact the Milesopedia team to clarify the situation or request a second chance, if applicable.

7. Contact and reporting

If you have questions regarding this netiquette, or if you wish to report a problem (abusive behavior by a member, inappropriate content, suspicion of scam, etc.), several channels are available to you:

  • Contact form: you can write to us via the official contact form available on Milesopedia.com for any general questions or site-related requests.
  • Private message to moderators: on our Facebook groups or other community social networks, you can send a private message directly to the administrators/moderators (for example via “Contact Admins” on Facebook, or via the dedicated tool on Reddit).
  • Email address: if needed, you can also reach us by email at the official Milesopedia address indicated on the site, especially for urgent or confidential reports.

We listen to our members and take every comment or alert seriously. Do not hesitate to contact us for any questions about the rules or to help us maintain a safe and welcoming community.

By joining Milesopedia, you contribute to making this community a benevolent, enriching, and secure space for all. We count on your personal commitment to respect these principles of good conduct and help other members do the same.
