The Courtyard Toronto Downtown is centrally located and right next to a subway station, making it very convenient to visit Toronto and its main attractions.
I primarily chose the Courtyard Toronto Downtown because it was within walking distance from the CAA Ed Mirvish Theater, as I wanted to attend a Harry Potter play.
The Courtyard Toronto Downtown is located about 30 minutes away from YTZ Toronto Billy Bishop Airport, and there are many shopping areas surrounding the hotel, such as the lively Dundas Square and Toronto’s Eaton Centre.
When I landed at YTZ airport, I took the free shuttle to Union Station and from there, you can hop on the subway for a couple of stops before reaching the Courtyard Toronto Downtown at College Station. Alternatively, you can also walk from Union Station to the hotel in about half an hour.
The Courtyard Toronto Downtown is very close to the Old Toronto Area and to various restaurants.
I booked the room the same day and paid cash because a points redemption wouldn’t give me a reasonable valuation. I also wanted to benefit from the current targeted promotion where I could earn a free night certificate after a certain number of stays.
In addition, by paying with my Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card, I earned 5X the points on my Courtyard Toronto Downtown reservation.
As for check-in, the clerk took care of it quickly and also gave me a snack bag as a thank-you for being a Silver Elite member. I thought it was a really nice touch as they value all Elite Status members and not just the highest levels as I’ve experienced elsewhere.

I booked a standard Guest room with a king bed at the Courtyard Toronto Downtown.
The room was large, clean, and well-kept. The beds were comfortable, and the soft pillows were a nice touch. The room also included a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, and a coffee maker, all of which were helpful amenities.
There was a little working space and good Wi-Fi, which was perfect for me as I also worked remotely during my stay.
I found a safe, an iron, and an ironing board in the room.
The bathroom was very clean and modern, with all of the amenities.
The Courtyard Toronto Downtown has a Fitness Center on the hotel’s basement floor, which is open 24 hours a day, with the usual machines and weights. They also offer headphones and water bottles free of charge.
Additionally, there are many conference rooms and common sitting spaces at the lobby level in addition to an office space.
Close to the reception of the Courtyard Toronto Downtown, you can find the hotel Bistro where you can order Starbucks coffee, eat and purchase snacks and drinks. This Bistro also served an à la carte breakfast with various options.
However, behind the Bistro, you can find Nook, where a complimentary continental breakfast is served for members with Elite Status from the Silver Elite level! If your status is linked to your booking, you can use your key card to enter Nook.
Overall, my stay at the Courtyard Toronto Downtown was fantastic: it fulfilled its purpose of being an affordable place where I could stay after my show and work remotely. It can also be an excellent use of your free annual night award, depending on the points rate.
I would definitely consider staying here again in the future because of the location and price of the hotel.
