Marriott Bonvoy points can save a lot of money for your travel. Depending on the destination, you can get one or more free hotel nights with points.
Here are several tips to know before finding out what these points can offer you in this destination.
Earn Marriott Bonvoy points in Canada
Credit card sign-up bonuses
Marriott Bonvoy partners with American Express in Canada by issuing two Marriott Bonvoy credit cards (one for consumers and one for SMEs).
By signing up for the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card, you can earn 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
If you also subscribe to the Marriott BonvoyMD Business American Express®* Card ExpressMD, you could earn 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
That’s up to 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points with both credit cards.
If you are a couple – or with a travel companion – you can earn between 100,000 and 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy points!
Point transfers
You can also transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy from one of these seven American Express Membership Rewards Cards:
The transfer rate is 1:1.2 (or 5:6). This means that if you transfer 10,000 Membership Rewards points, you will receive 12,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
Transfer up to 100,000 points per year
Each year, you can transfer up to 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for free from one Marriott Bonvoy account to another. It is a convenient method to book hotel nights from a single account to:
- Combine points earned on a spouse or a travel buddy’s Marriott Bonvoy credit cards.
- benefit from the other member’s Marriott Bonvoy Elite status
- Earn Elite nights for renewal of a status
- Book hotel nights with points by taking advantage of the Stay for 5, Pay for 4 policy
Stay for 5, Pay for 4 Policy
By using your Marriott Bonvoy points, you can take advantage of the Stay for 5, Pay for 4 Policy.
With this benefit, you save about 20% of the price of your reservation: you use fewer points to stay longer!

Now that you know the main tips about earning and redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points, let’s look at the good deals at this destination.

- Hotels from 20,000 points: between 160,000 and 240,000 points
These points are easily earned by subscribing to the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card or the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card.

Audrey and I stayed with our two children in several of these hotels during our round-the-world tour: as you will see below, they arecomfortable hotels and particularly well located.
For example, a 5-night consecutive stay in January 2023 at the Fairfield by Marriott Bali Legian costs only 22,000 points (or 4,400 points per night) :
With the current welcome offer, you could treat yourself to nearly 3 such stays! And up to 6 stays of 5 nights when applying for both cards. That way, you can switch hotels and locations on the island.
And if you’re a couple or two travelling companions, by taking two cards each, you could earn up to 320,000 points. At 4,400 points per night, that’s up to 72 nights.
This is an extreme case, but it shows you what can be done with Marriott Bonvoy points.
