Review: Courtyard Cancun Airport | Marriott Bonvoy

After spending two weeks in Isla Mujeres, the island off the coast of Cancún, I spent a night at the Courtyard Cancun Airport to end my trip and take advantage of the free shuttle to the airport.

When I booked, a night at the Courtyard Cancun Airport in a standard room with a king bed was $129 USD. However, after finding a better price on Google, I was able to take advantage of the best price guarantee to reduce the total cost to $84 USD and get 5,000 bonus points as a courtesy.

The price in points is quite reasonable, ranging from 16,000 to 22,000 points per night. I still advise you to do as I did and check out the price in cash first, you might be able to save a lot with the best price guarantee!

The Courtyard Cancun Airport is located 6 km from Cancun International Airport (CUN) and approximately 20 minutes from downtown Cancun by car. The hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle service available at all times, shared with the Fairfield Inn & Suites Cancun Airport, located next door.

Many amenities are available within walking distance. You will find a pharmacy, a convenience store, an ATM to withdraw money, and several car rental companies.

A few days before my arrival, I received an email with all the information needed to use the shuttle service, and it was explained to me again when I checked in. To use the hotel shuttle to the airport, no reservations are required as the shuttle operates every 30 minutes. You just have to show up in the lobby 10 minutes in advance.

In total, it took 20 minutes for me to arrive at terminal 3 of the Cancún airport, to catch my flight home.

The check-in process went smoothly. I was given a choice of three gifts because of my Platinum status: Marriott Bonvoy points, free breakfast, or a $10 restaurant credit. Since breakfast was already included in my reservation, I chose the gift in points.

The lobby of the Courtyard Cancun Airport is very large and has plenty of places to rest, as well as a bar right next to the entrance.

I was given room 340, true to my reservation and without an upgrade despite my Platinum status, but I hadn’t requested one either. The room is medium in size and is furnished with a bench, a desk with a chair for working, a large flat screen TV and a large closet.

The view from my window is directly over the hotel’s pool and garden. It is also possible to go to the pool by taking the outside staircase near the room; faster than going through the hotel to get there.

There is also a mini-refrigerator, a safety deposit box, a coffee machine and bottled water. The bathroom offers a walk-in shower with the necessary hygiene products and a hair dryer.

Breakfast is served from 6 am to 11 am in the form of a hot and cold buffet. There was a station where you could get eggs or an omelet to your liking, and the staff was very attentive.

In the cold buffet we found all the essentials: fruits, yogurt, cold meats and cheeses, bread, pastries and waffles with syrups, peanut butter, Nutella and jams. The hot buffet offered grilled vegetables, sausages, chilaquiles (Mexican specialty), potatoes, frijoles, two kinds of soups and of course, hot sauces to accompany everything.

A waiter came to offer me a mimosa because of my Platinum status, a nice touch! Staying at Marriott Bonvoy hotels with this status is a new experience for me, and all these little gestures are very much appreciated.

The Courtyard Airport Cancun offers a restaurant open from noon to 11 p.m. for lunch and dinner, as well as a room service menu that you can view here. There are as many places to sit inside as outside, on the garden and pool side.

The bar in the lobby is open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the pool is located in the heart of the hotel’s small landscaped garden, which provides a nice atmosphere. It is easy to forget that the hotel is located right next to the highway.

Towels are provided and many lounge chairs are available. The pool also offers two whirlpools for adults. The pool area is very nice to get some fresh air in the evening before or after long hours at the airport.

Right next to the pool is the fitness room, with a glass wall overlooking the garden.

There are free weights and machines for strength and cardio training. Towels and water bottles are also available.

The Courtyard Cancun Airport’s lobby common areas are nice, with a lounge area, bar area and media area for those who need to work.

Although very brief, I really enjoyed my stay at the Courtyard Cancun Airport, which I found relaxing before my return to Quebec. The quality of the hotel and service is very similar to its neighbor with whom the airport shuttle is shared. You may have a better chance of getting a suite upgrade at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Cancun Airport, but I’d say the pool area and breakfast buffet at the Courtyard Cancun Airport were very slightly superior.

With either one, you can’t go wrong with a night near the airport.
