To the point Learn how to maximize the Scene+ points you earn with your Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite +* Card and save more on your everyday expenses.

With life getting more expensive each day, every one of us is looking for ways to save. Whether it’s because of our ever-growing grocery bill, the cost of gas creeping up to shocking new levels, or all the other sneaky expenses that seem to show up, we’re all looking for ways to lower our costs.

Luckily, the Scene+ rewards program and its co-branded credit cards are built for exactly this task. With over 15 million members across Canada, Scene+ lets you earn points on everyday spending and redeem them for groceries, dining, travel, and more. Co-owned by Scotiabank, Empire Company Limited, and Cineplex, the program covers the categories where we spend the most.

In this guide, we break down the best ways to maximize your Scene+ points in 2026 using one of the program’s top cards: the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card. To compare all your options, also check out our best credit cards page and our ranking of the best Scene+ credit cards.

What is Scene+?

Scene+ has over 15 million members across Canada. Sign up once for free, earn points on everyday expenses and then use your account balance to save on stores, gas stations, groceries, dining, travel, and more.

Members of the Scene+ program can earn points at grocery stores like Sobeys, IGA, Rachelle Béry, FreshCo, Chalo! FreshCo, Safeway, Thrifty Foods, Foodland, Foodland & Participating Co-ops, Needs, Lawtons Drugs, and Voilà (online delivery). Additional partners include Shell, Cineplex, Home Hardware, Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario’s, and more.

Another great aspect of the Scene+ program is that you can also stack your Scene+ membership with a co-branded credit card to earn points faster and unlock additional perks. Two banking partners are part of the program: Scotiabank, which offers several Scene+ credit and debit cards, and Tangerine, which joined as an official banking partner in April 2026 with its Rewards World Elite Mastercard®*.

In this guide, we focus on one of the program’s strongest travel cards: the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card

With this card, you not only earn Scene+ points on all your purchases (with elevated rates offered in several valuable categories), but you also get access to some powerful perks like savings at eligible gas stations, no FX fees, and free airport lounge access.

Maximize Your Earnings with the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card

With the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card, you earn Scene+ points on all purchases, including at elevated rates in key categories.

To help you enjoy the most savings possible, let’s look at how you can maximize the points you earn on your day-to-day expenses.

Earn on groceries

One of the highest earning categories on the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is partnered grocery stores, no surprise, given that Scene+ co-owner Empire Company Limited runs many of Canada’s largest chains.

With the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card, you earn 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent (equivalent to 3% back) at participating locations of the following grocery brands:

  • IGA, IGA West, Les Marchés Traditions, Rachelle Béry
  • Sobeys, Safeway
  • FreshCo, Chalo! FreshCo
  • Foodland and Participating Co-ops
  • Thrifty Foods

Additionally, you earn 2 Scene+ points per $1 spent at your other favourite eligible grocery stores when you use your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card.

Earn and save on gas

Another great way to save on an important everyday expense is to use your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card at Shell gas stations.

Thanks to the partnership between the Scene+ program and Shell, you can save up to 10 cents per litre on gas, a savings amount that can really help lower the cost of your daily commute or your next planned road trip. Over 1,400 Shell stations across Canada are part of the program.

As a Scene+ member, you earn at Shell with no minimum purchase required:

  • 1 Scene+ point per litre on all Shell fuels, including diesel
  • 1 Scene+ point per dollar on eligible car washes and select in-store purchases (tobacco, lottery, gift cards, and prepaid cards are excluded)

Want to earn faster? Download the Shell App and link your Scene+ account to access Shell Go+:

  • +10% bonus points on Regular, Plus, and Diesel
  • 2x points on Shell V-Power

Holders of eligible Scotiabank and Tangerine credit cards also get instant savings at the pump:

  • Save 3¢/L off on all fuel grades
  • Save an additional 4¢/L when you choose to fill up with premium fuel, for a total of 7¢/L in instant savings.

On top of those savings, you also earn 1 Scene+ point per litre (worth ~1¢/L) when you use your eligible Scene+ card, so the full benefit on V-Power with a Scotiabank Scene+ card stacks to roughly 8¢/L in total value.

As you can see, just by choosing the right gas station, you can take full advantage of the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card‘s earning potential, and you can feel a little more in control of gas prices that often feel out of control.

Redeeming at Shell is straightforward: 1,000 points = $10 off on fuel, car wash, and select in-store purchases. Maximum redemption is 10,000 points ($100) per transaction and 20,000 points ($200) per 24-hour period.

Enjoy a night out

The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is also a great card to have available for your next night out on the town.

Earning 2 Scene+ points per $1 spent on dining, food delivery, eligible entertainment, and daily transit, including rideshares, buses, subways, and taxis.

Whether you’re heading out to try the new Instagram-famous restaurant in town or sitting down with some popcorn for the latest blockbuster movie, the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card‘s earning rates give you the equivalent of 2% back when you treat yourself!

Plus, the Scene+ program is partnered with Cineplex, so your earning rate depends on the type of experience:

  • 3 Scene+ points per $1 on regular tickets, food and drinks, and merchandise
  • 6 Scene+ points per $1 on premium experiences: IMAX, VIP, 3D, UltraAVX, 4DX, DBOX, and ScreenX
  • Online booking fees earn at the same rate as the tickets purchased

Combined with your card’s base dining rate, that’s up to 8 Scene+ points (or 8% back in value) per $1 spent on your next IMAX or VIP night out, and still 5 Scene+ points per $1 on regular tickets.

Earn and save on travel

The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is also one of the best travel-focused cards on the market, so of course, it offers a few compelling ways to save on your next Scene+ trip.

First, when you book travel through Scene+ Travel powered by Expedia with your card, you earn

  • 4 Scene+ points per $1 on hotel bookings, car rentals, and activities when you book through Scene+ Travel, Powered by Expedia.
  • 1 Scene+ point per $1 on all other eligible travel purchases charged to your card

Points earned on Scene+ Travel bookings are credited to your account within 6 weeks after you complete your trip. To redeem, 100 points = $1 off any booking through the Scene+ Travel portal, with no minimum redemption required.

For travel booked outside the portal, the Apply Points to Travel option lets you use your points against eligible travel purchases, including flights, hotels, car rentals, and travel agencies, charged to your credit card within 12 months of the purchase date, at 1 cent per point.

Additionally, and quite notably, the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is a no-FX card. This means that it doesn’t charge the usual 2.5% fee that most Canadian credit cards charge when you make purchases abroad or buy something online in a foreign currency.

And, if saving 2.5% on all foreign currency purchases wasn’t enough, the card also lets you earn its regular elevated earning rates even while you’re abroad. This means your elevated earn rates apply internationally too, so you keep earning at full rates wherever you travel!

Save when you shop

With your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card, you earn 1 Scene+ point per $1 spent on all purchases that don’t fall within the elevated categories mentioned above.

You can also amplify your earning rate by shopping through Scene+ partner Rakuten. By using this shopping portal to access your favourite brands, you can access offers of up to 20 Scene+ points per $1 spent, an absolutely fantastic way to maximize your points on purchases you were already planning to make.

Additionally, Scene+ is also partnered with Home Hardware, where you can earn 50 Scene+ points for every $50 you spend in stores and online on top of the points earned with your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card.

Watch for promotions and special offers

One final consideration for those looking to really maximize their Scene+ points while earning with the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is to watch out for special promotions and offers.

Many of the partnered merchants we’ve mentioned above offer bonus points on select products, special limited-time offers, and extra redemption value that can stack nicely on top of your card’s earning rates.

You can find these promotions and offers in participating stores and online through your Scene+ account and each merchant’s website or app.

Maximize Your Redemptions with the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card

The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is a compelling everyday spending option thanks not only to its strong earning rates but also because of how the accumulated Scene+ points provide valuable, versatile, and easy-to-access redemption options.

Redeem for everyday expenses

One of the reasons for the popularity of the Scene+ program is how easy it is to save on everyday expenses.

Once you’ve earned a stash of Scene+ points with your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card, you can redeem them across many categories.

Whether you’re looking to save on essentials like groceries or you want to add a fun activity for free, there are lots of great options to choose from:

  • Groceries: Redeem 1,000 Scene+ points for $10 off at participating grocery stores like IGA, Rachelle Béry, Sobeys, and Foodland.
  • Dining out: Redeem 500 Scene+ for $5 off at partnered restaurants like Swiss Chalet, Montana’s, and East Side Mario’s.
  • Movies: Redeem 100 Scene+ for $1 off at Cineplex.
  • Entertainment: Redeem 500 Scene+ points for $5 at Rec Room and Playdium.
  • Home improvement: Redeem 1,000 Scene+ points for $10 off at Home Hardware.

As you can see from the above options, 1 Scene+ point is usually worth 1 cent in redemption value.

You can also redeem your Scene+ for statement credits on your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card and for gift cards; however, these options have a lower redemption value of roughly 0.67 to 0.7 cents per point, so we don’t typically recommend them.

Additionally, keep in mind that if you’re really looking to maximize the value of your points, you can hang on to your balance until there’s a promotion or redemption event that gives you even more bang for your Scene+ “bucks.”
