Practical Guide to Affordable and Unique Gift Ideas

Here are 10 ideas, from movie nights to a Costco membership, with the exact number of points for each. For someone who travels a lot, see also our best travel gifts.
10 Gifts You Can Pay For With Points
Movie Tickets
Your Scene+ points let you buy Cineplex gift cards: every 1,000 Scene+ points gives you $10 on a gift card.
With Blue Rewards (formerly AIR MILES), the Cineplex Escape for Two voucher costs 5,921 Blue Points.
Would you rather let them pick their own movie? A $50 Cineplex e-gift card costs 7,500 Blue Points.
Gift Idea: LEGO Set
Your Blue Points let you give a $50 LEGO e-gift card for 7,500 points, or a specific LEGO set: the Trevi Fountain (21062) costs 37,421 Blue Points, and the Hogwarts Castle Main Tower (76454), 57,632 points.

Video Games
With Blue Rewards, a $50 Nintendo eShop gift card costs 7,500 Blue Points, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Deluxe Bundle costs 151,250 points.
Investment
Give yourself a gift, from you! At the end of the year, contribute to your NBC RRSP or TFSA to cash out your points and give yourself the perfect gift.
Or, with your RBC Avion Rewards points, contribute to one of these Royal Bank of Canada investments:
- Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)
- Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)
- Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)
- Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
You must redeem a minimum of 3,000 Avion points to get a $25 value.
It is also possible to contribute with CIBC Aventura points, BMO Rewards, and BONUSDOLLARS. Read our guide to investing with your points:
Amusement Park Tickets (Disney, Universal, Legoland, etc.)
For you, for a friend, or for your children/grandchildren, treat them to an adventure:
- With RBC Avion Rewards points: approximately 27,000 Avion points for admission to a Disney park or Universal Studios Orlando.
- With TD Rewards points: approximately 54,000 points to enjoy Universal Studios Orlando or a Disney park, or 44,000 points for an Express Pass at Universal Studios.
Food and Groceries
On the NBC rewards site, a delicious gourmet platter of crab, seafood, and oysters is available for approximately 35,000 NBC points. Keep in mind it is only delivered within 50 km of Greater Montreal.
Redeem all your Moi points at Super C or Metro to treat yourself to a holiday feast and give yourself a well-deserved break at the end of the year. For example, 125 points will give you $1 off your grocery bill.
Do the same for a $10 discount for every 1,000 Scene+ points redeemed at IGA (or with Les Marchés Tradition, Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo, etc.).

For Travel
You can book a trip for another person with your points.
For someone who went through a tough time during the year or a loved one who really needs a change of scenery, use your points to surprise them!
For instance:
- Book a plane ticket in their name with your Aeroplan points to a dream destination they’ve always wanted to visit;
- Get a cozy and restful room with your Marriott Bonvoy Points;
- Transfer Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors points to another person’s account so they can choose what they want to do with them;
- Use flexible points like Scene+ points, TD Rewards points, NBC Rewards points, or CIBC Aventura to offer to pay for any other travel expenses for someone else.
Air Fryer
For a quick and convenient meal, gifting the ever-popular air fryer is a great way to make life easier for your favourite person.
If you have between 20,000 and 33,000 RBC Avion Rewards points and aren’t sure how to use them, redeem them for this useful holiday gift.
Alternatively, TD Rewards Points can be used to buy this famous air fryer for a total ranging from 50,000 points to 89,000 points.
Gift Card: The Best Christmas Gift Idea for the Person Who Has Everything
It’s the most versatile idea, especially for the person who seems to need nothing!
Almost all rewards programs offer gift cards in exchange for points. Blue Rewards (formerly AIR MILES) and Scene+ are among the easiest to calculate: 1,500 Blue Points are worth $10, just like 1,000 Scene+ points.
Your Blue Points buy e-gift cards at the same rate: a $50 Amazon, LEGO or Cineplex gift card costs 7,500 Blue Points.
A Sobeys gift card (including IGA, Foodland, Safeway, and more) costs the same number of Scene+ points as redeeming at checkout: 1,000 points equals $10 off. This is ideal because your points won’t lose value during redemption, unlike other programs where the value is lower.

Bottom Line
By using your points, you can give the perfect gift without touching your budget.
We often say not to let your points or miles sit idle. Remember that the value of your points can fluctuate. That’s why it’s better to use them for concrete experiences and gifts rather than letting them accumulate in your accounts.
Take advantage of rewards programs to treat your loved ones or yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you give your points directly to someone else?
Some programs allow free transfers (Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton), while others require the reservation to be made in the person’s name (Aeroplan or RBC Avion).
Otherwise, you can always transfer points, but with fees. Consult our article on transferring and combining points between people.
Which loyalty or reward points work best for affordable Christmas gifts?
All rewards programs (like Blue Rewards, Scene+, and RBC Avion) offer gift cards, merchandise, experiences, or travel as gifts.
Choose the program you are most familiar with or that offers the most unique or valuable gift to treat your loved ones. Then, carefully check the delivery date to ensure the gift arrives on time.
How much is a Blue Point worth?
You get $10 for every 1,500 Blue Points, in store at participating partners or as e-gift cards, which works out to about 0.67¢ per point. Keep in mind the $750 (112,500 points) daily cap set out in the Blue Rewards terms.
Were your AIR MILES converted to Blue Points?
Yes. According to BMO’s January 26, 2026 news release, your miles were automatically converted to Blue Points at equivalent value, with no action required on your part. Your Cash Miles and Dream Miles now form a single balance.
Can you give a gift card bought with Scene+ points?
Yes. Starting at 1,000 Scene+ points, you can buy digital or physical gift cards, including Cineplex and Sobeys and IGA grocery cards. A $10 card costs you 1,000 points, the same rate as redeeming at checkout.
How long does delivery take before Christmas?
For merchandise, allow several business days: National Bank, for example, lists a standard delivery time of 10 to 14 business days for its rewards. We recommend ordering by late November, or choosing an e-gift card if time is short.
Can you use your points right at checkout?
Yes, with several programs. Your Moi points redeem in 125-point blocks ($1) starting at 500 points at Metro and Super C, your Scene+ points give $10 per 1,000 points at IGA and Sobeys, and your Blue Points, $10 per 1,500 points at participating partners.
Which credit card should you use to earn points over the holidays?
For flexible points, the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card earns you 1.25 points per dollar on travel purchases and 1 point per dollar on everything else. If you collect Blue Points, the BMO Blue Rewards World Elite Mastercard earns you more at participating partners.
