Hilton Honors has five status levels: Member, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Diamond Reserve. In Canada, the Hilton Honors American Express® Card includes Gold status without completing any stays and offers a path to Diamond after $40,000 CAD in eligible net purchases in a calendar year. Gold benefits include continental breakfast outside the United States at participating brands, space-available upgrades, and an 80% points bonus on eligible stays.

Hilton Honors Status Levels
Hilton gives you each status for the rest of the calendar year in which you earn it, plus the entire following year. Status earned in March therefore lasts you almost two years. Hilton details each level on its Hilton Honors member benefits page.

Hilton Honors Silver Status
Silver gives you the fifth night free on reward stays, its most valuable benefit. You earn it with 10 nights, 4 stays or $2,500 USD in eligible spending in a calendar year.
- 20% bonus on your base points, or 12 points per dollar
- Fifth night free on standard room stays booked entirely with points, with no limit on stays and up to 4 free nights per stay
- 2 bottles of water on arrival at participating hotels
- 15% off at spas in Hilton's all-inclusive resorts
For example, if a hotel costs 60,000 points a night, 5 nights cost you 240,000 points instead of 300,000. Keep in mind that Silver includes neither breakfast nor upgrades. From Silver up, though, you can apply your points to your hotel bill with Pay with Points, at 150 U.S. hotels for now.
Hilton Honors Gold Status
Gold is the status we recommend you aim for first. The Hilton Honors American Express® Card includes it without a stay requirement. You can also earn it with 25 nights, 15 stays, or $6,000 USD in eligible Hilton spending in a calendar year.
- 80% bonus points, or 18 points per dollar at most brands
- Space-available upgrades, up to Executive Floor rooms
- Free continental breakfast outside the United States at participating brands, or a daily food and beverage credit at select U.S. brands, for you and one additional guest registered to the room
- Milestone bonus of 10,000 points every 10 nights once you pass 40 nights in a calendar year
In Canada, breakfast is what makes Gold worth it. For you and the person sharing your room, it covers a meal every morning that you would otherwise pay for.
Silver vs. Gold: What Really Changes
When qualifying through stays, Gold requires 15 more nights than Silver. The Hilton Honors American Express Card provides Gold without completing any stays. This status adds three concrete benefits:
- Breakfast or the daily food and beverage credit
- Upgrades subject to availability
- 18 points per dollar instead of 12 on your stays
If you only aim for one status, choose Gold: it is the first level that improves your stay, not just your points balance.
Hilton Honors Diamond Status
Diamond adds benefits such as executive lounge access and space-available upgrades up to a one-bedroom suite. In Canada, you can earn it after $40,000 CAD in eligible net purchases on the Hilton Honors American Express® Card in a calendar year. Alternatively, you can qualify with 50 nights, 25 stays, or $11,500 USD in eligible Hilton spending over the same period.
- 100% bonus points, or 20 points per dollar
- Space-available upgrades, up to a one-bedroom suite
- Executive lounge access at hotels that have one
- 48-hour room guarantee, with some restrictions
- Free premium Wi-Fi
- Status gifting: at 60 nights in the year, you can gift Gold status to another member, and Diamond at 100 nights
- One-time extension of Diamond status if you do not requalify, after 3 years as a Diamond member and 250 nights since joining (or the equivalent threshold set by Hilton)
Hilton Executive Lounges
From Diamond status, you can use the hotel's executive lounge without booking an Executive Floor room. Services vary from hotel to hotel, and not every hotel has a lounge. Note that a member served breakfast in the lounge does not also receive the daily food and beverage credit.
Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve Status
Diamond Reserve is the only status that guarantees you a 4 p.m. checkout and a confirmed upgrade at booking. It requires 80 nights or 40 stays, and $18,000 USD in eligible spending in a calendar year: you must meet both conditions.
- 120% bonus points, or 22 points per dollar
- Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout at every brand
- Confirmable upgrade up to a suite, for stays of up to 7 nights, with a second one at 120 nights
- Highest priority for space-available upgrades
- Access to all lounges, including Premium Clubs
- Dedicated customer service, 24/7
This status is built for heavy business travellers. We find it worthwhile only if you already spend more than 80 nights a year at Hilton.
What Changed in 2026
Since 2026, you reach Gold and Diamond with fewer nights. Hilton lowered its thresholds and replaced base points with spending in U.S. dollars:
- Gold: 25 nights instead of 40, 15 stays instead of 20, or $6,000 USD instead of 75,000 base points
- Diamond: 50 nights instead of 60, 25 stays instead of 30, or $11,500 USD instead of 120,000 base points
- Diamond Reserve: a new tier above Diamond

How to Get Hilton Honors Status in Canada
You have three ways to get status without waiting for your 25 nights.
With a Credit Card
The Hilton Honors American Express® Card includes complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status. It also offers an upgrade to Diamond after $40,000 CAD in eligible net purchases in a calendar year, from January 1 to December 31. Diamond status earned this way remains valid through the end of the following calendar year, subject to the applicable terms. For a Canadian traveller, Gold offers benefits from the first few eligible stays. The Hilton Honors American Express Card provides it without the usual 25-night requirement.
