Transfer Points to Another Person: 24 Programs in Canada

Yes, you can transfer or pool your points with another person in most major programs available in Canada, but the rules vary widely. Sharing is free with Aeroplan (within a family), Flying Blue, VIA Préférence, Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt. It costs money with Blue Rewards between two households, WestJet, British Airways Club and IHG, and it's not possible with Amex, TD, CIBC or Desjardins.
Pooling your points with someone close to you lets you:

If you're managing the points of someone who has died, different rules apply: see our article on What happens to your loyalty points when you die.
To move points from one program to another, for example Membership Rewards to Aeroplan, see our list of major points transfer programs in Canada instead.
When person-to-person transfers don't exist, you almost always have another option: book a flight or a night for someone else with your points.
A transfer between two people is final and non-refundable. Check the recipient's member number and exact name before you confirm. Here's what you can do, program by program, and what we recommend.
Flying Blue Family lets you pool the Miles of up to 8 people for free: 2 adults and 6 children. The family lead creates the group in their profile on the Air France or KLM website, then sends the invitations. Only the lead can then transfer the other members' Miles, and after each transfer, all the family's Miles stay valid for 2 years.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| Free | Family lead aged 18 or older; up to 8 members, including 2 adults; each member stays at least 6 months. Invitations on the Air France or KLM website | Up to 72 hours for the first transfer |
Aeroplan Family Sharing lets you pool the points of up to 8 members of the same family for free. The family lead must be 18 or older, an Aeroplan member for at least 6 months and a verified member. They invite up to 7 people and decide who can redeem the group's points. Everything is explained in our guide to Aeroplan Family Sharing.
Keep three timelines in mind: an invitation expires after 45 days, a member stays in the group for at least 3 months before leaving, then waits 6 months before joining another one.
Outside Family Sharing, you can also transfer points to any other Aeroplan member, but that transfer comes with a fee.
The price appears at checkout, in Canadian dollars, plus taxes and processing fees. Compare it to the value of the points before you pay.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| Price shown at checkout on Points.com, plus taxes and processing fees | Transaction on the Aeroplan site, via Points.com; customer service at 1-800-361-5373 | Usually under 72 hours |
This paid transfer has these limits:
You can transfer your British Airways Club Avios to another member for £50, or for free if you're a Gold member. Each transfer is capped at 60,000 Avios, and each person can send and receive up to 200,000 Avios per calendar year.
To pool Avios as a family for free, open a Household Account instead: it brings together up to 6 people, children included.
Your Avios stay valid as long as you collect, spend or share Avios at least once every 36 months. See our guide on points expiry for the details.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| £50 per transfer; free for Gold members | Online on the Avios transfer page | Instant |
You can transfer any number of WestJet points to another WestJet Rewards member for $50 to $59 per transfer, plus tax. You request the transfer by phone and pay by credit card.
For a small balance, book the flight in the other person's name with your own points instead: you avoid the fee.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| $50 to $59 + tax per transfer, paid by credit card | Call WestJet at 1-888-937-8538; transfers are at WestJet's discretion | Not published by WestJet |
With VIPorter, you can pay for another person's flight with your points, as long as you make the booking yourself. Points can't be transferred or gifted from one account to another.
Your Aventura points stay in your account: CIBC doesn't let you transfer them to another person, even to another Aventura account. They also can't be split in a separation without CIBC's consent.
The only exception: you can combine the points of your own Aventura accounts, personal and business, if you're the primary cardholder on both. Authorized users can't make transfers.
You can gift your BMO Rewards points to anyone who also holds a BMO Rewards credit card, starting at 1,000 points. The gift can't be reversed and shows as a redemption in your account.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| Free | Online on the BMO Rewards site or in the app, with the recipient's last name and collector number; 1,000 points minimum | Instant |
American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to many partner programs, but always to an account in your own name. You can't send them to a family member's Aeroplan or Marriott Bonvoy account, and Amex may treat such a transfer as abuse. Supplementary cardholders earn into your points account, not their own.
To let a family member enjoy your BONUSDOLLARS, redeem them for a gift card sent to their address. Desjardins rules don't allow BONUSDOLLARS to be transferred to another cardholder's account.
Your NBC À la carte Rewards points stay yours: National Bank doesn't let you assign them to another person, even in a separation. The only exception: when the primary cardholder dies, the estate can have them transferred within 12 months to the spouse who is an authorized user and gets an NBC card with the same plan.
You can share your RBC Avion Rewards points with your spouse or a family member if you hold an eligible account together, such as a joint account. The primary holder and co-holder can then transfer points to that shared account. RBC treats the transfer as a redemption, and some transfers between account types lose benefits, such as the Avion flight chart.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| Free (the transfer counts as a redemption) | Between rewards accounts linked to eligible accounts held by the same people, such as a joint account. The co-holder then has access to the points | Not published by RBC |
With TD Rewards, you keep your points when you switch TD cards, but you can't assign them to another person. The terms state that any attempt to assign them voids the points. They can't be split in a separation or divorce either.
You can ask to transfer your CT Money to another Triangle Rewards member: Canadian Tire approves it at its discretion. Both people need a registered Triangle account. To collect as a family without transfers, add up to 2 extra key tags to your account, or use the Triangle app.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |
| No fee mentioned by Canadian Tire | At Canadian Tire's discretion, between two registered Triangle accounts. Customer service at 1-800-226-8473, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern Time) | Not published by Canadian Tire |
You can gift your Blue Points to any other Blue Rewards member, and merge your account for free with someone who lives under your roof. Since June 2, 2026, Blue Rewards has replaced AIR MILES with a single currency: your former Cash and Dream miles became Blue Points, at 16 points per mile. You’ll find how the whole program works in our complete Blue Rewards guide.
Before you call Customer Care, keep these conditions in mind:

Do the math before you gift points: 1,500 Blue Points are worth $10 in store or in gift cards, but gifting 1,500 points costs you about $14 before taxes. We therefore keep the paid gift for a family member or friend who is a few hundred points short of a specific reward. To pool your balances day to day, a free merge between people in the same household remains your best option.
To collect Moi points together, share the same card: the program has no transfers between two members. Anyone you lend your card to can earn and redeem your points. Metro reserves the option to allow a transfer or a donation to a charity someday, but no process is published.
To share your PC Optimum points, your only option is a household, which pools up to 5 members into one balance: there is no direct transfer between two members.
PC Optimum no longer lets members create new households: only existing ones continue. The exception: primary and additional cardholders of the same PC Financial card can still form one from their PC Financial account. In a household, every member can redeem all of the group's points, and no one can be removed by the others.
Scene+ allows, at its discretion, point transfers between two members with active accounts, and pooling within the same household. The program terms publish no fee, cap or timeline, and Scene+ may ask for documents proving the household.
To request one, call Scene+ customer service at 1-866-586-2805.
You can transfer your VIA Préférence points to any other member for free, from 100 to 5,000 points per transfer. No family link is required, so a friend can top up your balance before a ticket.

Choice Privileges members can transfer points to another member's account free of charge, whether it's a spouse, a relative or a friend. Transfers are done online only, on the Choice Privileges website while logged in to your account. They are not available over the phone.
Points you receive don't count as qualifying activity: they don't push back the recipient's expiry date, and they're forfeited if the recipient has no other qualifying activity before that date. They don't count toward Elite status either. Choice reserves the right to introduce a fee later on.
| Cost | Conditions | Processing time |

Hilton Honors gives you two free ways to share points: a direct transfer to another member, and Points Pooling with the people close to you.
Both work in increments of 1,000 points. Each member can send up to 500,000 points and receive 2 million per calendar year, transfers and pooling combined, with up to 6 transfers and 6 pooling transactions. A new member waits 30 days with activity, or 90 days without.

Start with the free options: Aeroplan Family Sharing, Flying Blue Family, a British Airways Club Household Account, Hilton Honors Points Pooling and a Blue Rewards account merge under one roof. We keep paid transfers (Aeroplan outside the family, WestJet, IHG, Blue Rewards between two households) for closing a gap of a few hundred or a few thousand points before a specific reward.
If your program doesn't allow transfers at all, use your points to book in the other person's name, or redeem them before they expire. To earn faster in the program you already use, compare the credit cards that earn it.
Create your free Milesopedia member account to get member-only offers and choose your newsletters.
You can pool your points for free with Family Sharing, for up to 8 members of the same family. Outside the family, you can transfer them to any Aeroplan member at the price shown on Points.com at checkout.
To move points from one program to another, see our list of major points transfer programs in Canada.
Since June 2, 2026, your former AIR MILES miles have become Blue Points. You can gift those Blue Points to another member for $0.15 per 16 points, plus taxes.
If that person lives at the same address as you, merging your two accounts is free. You’ll find all the conditions above, in the Blue Rewards section.
Yes, when both cards are in your name and earn the same points. CIBC, for example, lets you combine the Aventura points of your personal and business accounts if you are the primary cardholder on both.
Between two different people, it all depends on the program: find yours in the sections above.
No. Blue Rewards, Flying Blue, World of Hyatt and most programs treat a transfer as final, with no refund. Check the recipient's member number and exact name before you confirm.
Usually not. Points you receive don't count toward Aeroplan Elite status, Blue Rewards Gold and Onyx status, or Choice Privileges Elite status. At World of Hyatt, they're credited as bonus points.
You can share for free with Aeroplan Family Sharing, Flying Blue Family, a British Airways Club Household Account, a Blue Rewards account merge within the same household, VIA Préférence, Best Western, Choice Privileges, Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt.
