Overview

WestJet, the airline offers the WestJet Rewards loyalty program. Here’s a closer look at how to earn, use, and manage your WestJet points, as well as the affiliated credit cards.

How do you earn WestJet points?

The currency you earn, formerly called the « WestJet dollar, » became the WestJet point on April 30, 2025.

On flights and vacation packages, the number of WestJet points earned depends on your status. You can earn from 1 to 8 points per dollar spent on the following fees:

  • Base fares on WestJet flights + add-ons
  • Seat selection
  • Checked baggage
  • Cabin upgrade purchase

The two credit cards issued by RBC also let you earn 1 to 2 WestJet points per dollar on purchases:

Flights on partners (American Airlines, Air France, KLM, Delta, Qantas, etc.) also allow you to earn WestJet points based on class and distance flown.

You can also earn points on WestJet Vacations packages, as well as on car rentals booked with WestJet.

For online shopping, you can now go through the WestJet Rewards eStore to earn points on every dollar spent with WestJet Rewards partner retailers.

How do you use WestJet points?

You can use your WestJet points for:

  • flights with the airline,
  • WestJet Vacations or Sunwing Vacations packages.

It’s now possible to pay the full cost of a flight or vacation package with your WestJet points, which wasn’t possible back in the WestJet Dollars days.

The price in WestJet points will depend on availability, but also on the class, from the lowest (Econo) to the most flexible (Plus). On partner flights (excluding codeshares) like Delta, you must pay the full base fare in WestJet points. Note that only certain destinations are available.

Finally, you can also redeem your WestJet points for merchandise and gift cards through the WestJet Rewards eStore. However, as a general rule, this is never the most optimal way to use your points.

WestJet Rewards tiers

There are four status tiers within WestJet Rewards: Teal, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

To reach these different statuses, you need to spend a certain amount on flight spending over 12 months on WestJet flights, except for the base level, which is Teal.

In addition to earning WestJet points faster, Silver, Gold, and Platinum members get perks like lounge access, free checked bags, free ticket changes, etc.

Holders of the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ can reach a tier faster thanks to spending on the card.

Milestone rewards

WestJet Rewards members can get additional benefits based on the spending thresholds reached with WestJet. This includes:

  • Bonus points,
  • Airport lounge passes,
  • A companion voucher,
  • Discounts on certain fares,
  • A credit toward a vacation package,

And much more.

Frequently Asked Questions about the WestJet Rewards program

Here are frequently asked questions in the Milesopedia community about the WestJet Rewards program.

How does the WestJet Rewards program work?

WestJet Rewards is WestJet’s official loyalty program, Canada’s second-largest carrier. Members earn WestJet points (formerly “WestJet dollars”) on flights, vacation packages, and purchases with a co-branded credit card. The earn rate ranges from 1 to 8 points per dollar spent depending on member status, fare, and cabin.

The program was recently modernized with a MyWestJet partnership that allows Aeroplan members to earn WestJet points and Aeroplan points at the same time on eligible flights, a unique advantage in Canada. Points can be redeemed for WestJet flights, hotel nights via WestJet Vacations, and seats on partners like American Airlines, Delta, Air France, KLM, and Qantas.

What are the best WestJet credit cards?

Two RBC cards are issued to earn WestJet points:

The World Elite companion voucher deal lets you book a flight for a second person for $119 + taxes within Canada, or $399 + taxes on long-haul routes—often a savings that exceeds the card’s annual fee ($119).

What are the WestJet status tiers and their benefits?

WestJet Rewards includes four tiers based on Status-qualifying spend (SQS) earned in a calendar year: Teal (base), Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Thresholds increased as of January 1, 2025.

  • Teal: aucun seuil minimum, accès aux promotions exclusives

Holders of the Carte World Elite Mastercard RBC WestJet can increase their SQS by $200 per Status Boost, up to 50 times per calendar year, and automatically get a first checked bag free for themselves and up to 8 companions on the same reservation.

How much are WestJet points worth and how do you use them?

Milesopedia values the WestJet point at around 1 CA¢, which matches the base redemption rate toward WestJet flights (1,000 points = $10 off). The best uses include:

  • Vols domestiques au Canada, particulièrement dans l’Ouest où WestJet domine le réseau
  • Forfaits WestJet Vacances vers les destinations soleil (Mexique, Caraïbes), où chaque point donne directement une réduction sur le prix
  • Vols sur les partenaires Skyteam (Air France, KLM, Delta) et Oneworld (American Airlines, Qantas) pour des destinations non desservies par WestJet

Unlike Aeroplan, there are no high-value business-class award fares: WestJet points are best used for one-way trips and packages.

What is MyWestJet and how do you earn with Aeroplan?

MyWestJet is a linked earning program launched in 2024 between WestJet and Aeroplan. It allows a traveller to earn WestJet points AND Aeroplan points at the same time on the same eligible WestJet flight, without having to choose between the two programs.

To take advantage of it, you need to:

  • Être membre des deux programmes (l’inscription est gratuite)
  • Lier les deux comptes via le portail MyWestJet
  • Utiliser le numéro WestJet Récompenses lors de la réservation

It’s one of the only ways in Canada to earn two travel currencies at the same time, which is especially interesting for travellers who combine WestJet flights and Star Alliance flights via Air Canada. WestJet status is not reciprocally recognized by Aeroplan, but the points earned are added independently in each program.
