To the point Desjardins is making a devaluation and changes to the accumulation of BONUSDOLLARS, as well as adding annual fees for additional cards.

Changes to Desjardins Credit Cards

Desjardins has announced changes to its credit cards, effective June 29, 2025:

For these Desjardins credit cards, there will be changes to one or more of these aspects:

  • Addition of a Travel Category
  • Reduction of the accumulation rate for the Other Category
  • Desjardins is introducing annual fees for all additional cards for its members.

As a reminder, a devaluation also took place on November 29, 2023, where holders of these cards were then required to adhere to an accumulation cap on certain faster accumulation categories.

Flexi Visa, Cash Back Visa, Cash Back Mastercard, and BONUSDOLLARS Visa credit cards are not affected by these changes.

Changes to the Cash Back World Elite Mastercard Credit Card

Annual fee for an additional card

As of June 29, 2025, an annual fee of $30 will be charged for each additional card, including for Desjardins members. This new measure differs from the previous policy, which imposed no fee at all.

Changes to the Odyssey Gold Visa Credit Card

Changes in the accumulation of BONUSDOLLARS

From June 29, 2025, there will be 2 changes, including a devaluation:

  • A new travel category that earns 2% in BONUSDOLLARS
  • Decrease in the Other category from 1% to 0.65%

Annual fee for an additional card

As of June 29, 2025, an annual fee of $30 will be charged for each additional card, including for Desjardins members. Previously, there was no fee.

Changes in the accumulation of BONUSDOLLARS

From June 29, 2025, there will be 3 changes, including a devaluation:

  • A new travel category that earns 2% in BONUSDOLLARS
  • Decrease in the Other category from 1.5% to 1%.
  • Restaurant category will increase by 2% to 3%.

Annual fee for an additional card

As of June 29, 2025, an annual fee of $40 will be charged for each additional card, including for Desjardins members. Previously, there was no fee.

Changes to the Odyssey Visa Infinite Privilege Credit Card

Changes in the accumulation of BONUSDOLLARS

From June 29, 2025, this credit card will be devalued:

  • Decrease in the Other category from 1.75% to 1.5%.

Annual fee for an additional card

Then, as of June 29, 2025, an annual fee of $95 will be charged for each additional card, including for Desjardins members. Previously, there was no fee.

This card is the hardest hit, as the Other category is reduced and you’ll also have to pay $95 for all additional cards.

For example, if you charge $1,000 a month to your card in the Other category, you’ll accumulate $15 a month instead of $17.50. At the end of the year, you’ll lose out because you’ll accumulate $180 instead of $210. In addition, you’ll have to pay $95 in annual fees for an additional card (if applicable).

This leaves you with $85 net in BONUSDOLLARS, compared to your $210 before the changes.

Bottom Line

The BONUSDOLLARS program is one of the most popular in Quebec.

It’s always a shame to see a devaluation or additional fees in rewards programs. If you have an additional cardholder on your main card, you’ll need to spend more to offset the annual fee on these Desjardins credit cards.

If these changes no longer suit you, we recommend that you carefully assess your needs and expenses. Take this opportunity to dust off your wallet, especially if you’ve had your credit card since you were a student!
