The Hilton Silver Offer via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

The offer is available to all Scotiabank Gold American Express^® Card* holders. It can be found in the Ten concierge portal, under the « Offers & Experiences » section. Here is what it includes:

Automatic Hilton Honors Silver Status: 90 days of Silver status upon activation, with no prior nights required
Fast Track to Permanent Silver: complete a 3-night stay during the 90 days to retain Silver status
Fast Track to Gold Status: complete a 5-night stay during the 90 days to upgrade directly to Gold status
Available Throughout 2026: you can choose the activation time according to your travel plans

How to Activate the Offer at the Right Time

The key point of this offer is activation. The trial lasts 90 days from activation. Since the offer is accessible throughout 2026, there is no reason to activate it now if you do not have a Hilton stay planned soon.

Ideal Activation Strategy

Plan to activate the offer 1 to 2 weeks before your Hilton stay. You will enjoy Silver status upon arrival, and you will still have the remainder of the 90-day window to complete your nights if necessary.

Here are two concrete scenarios to make the most of this offer.

Objective	Nights Required	Type of Stay	Result
Retain Silver	3 nights	A single stay of 3 consecutive nights	Silver maintained beyond 90 days
Upgrade to Gold	5 nights	A single stay of 5 consecutive nights	Upgrade to Gold

What Hilton Silver Status Gives You

Let’s be honest: Hilton Silver status is not the most generous of hotel programs. It is the first elite tier, and its benefits remain modest. It is better than nothing, especially when it is free.

20% Bonus Points on Stays: your Hilton nights earn more Honors points
Two Bottles of Water on Arrival: a small welcome gesture with each stay (at select hotels)
5th Night Free on Point Stays: when you book 5 nights with your Hilton Honors points, you only pay for 4
15% Spa Discount at All-Inclusive Resorts: reduction on treatments at Hilton all-inclusive properties

However, Silver does not provide access to breakfast or room upgrades. For these benefits, Gold or Diamond status is required.

Why Aim for Gold Status Rather Than Silver

If you have a 5-night stay planned at a Hilton Honors hotel, upgrading to Gold is definitely worthwhile. It is from Gold status that benefits begin to offer tangible advantages.

Food & Beverage Credit or Continental Breakfast: a daily food credit at hotels in the United States, or a complimentary continental breakfast outside the United States, for the status holder and one guest
Room Upgrade: possible up to the Executive room level, subject to availability
Late Checkout: subject to availability, a welcome comfort at the end of a stay
80% Bonus Points on Stays: significantly higher than Silver’s 20%

Compared to other programs, Gold status with Hilton is more advantageous than Marriott Bonvoy Gold, which does not provide breakfast. This is a concrete benefit that can save you several hundred dollars on a trip of a few days, especially outside the United States where continental breakfast is included.

Other Ways to Obtain Hilton Status

The offer via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card is not the only way to access Hilton Honors elite status in Canada. Here are the main alternatives, with their respective conditions.

American Express Platinum Card (Automatic Gold)

The American Express Platinum Card and the American Express Business Platinum Card offer automatic Hilton Honors Gold status, with no nights required. Status remains active as long as you hold the card.

This is the simplest method to obtain Gold status in Canada. These cards have high annual fees, but Hilton Gold status is just one of several benefits: lounge access, Marriott Bonvoy Gold status, travel credits, etc.

Our credit card selection

American Express Platinum Card^® Apply NowCompare	Annual fee$799	Welcome offerAfter $10,000 in 3 months Up to 100,000 points After $10,000 in 3 months	Apply NowCompare

Hilton Status Match (if you have hotel status)

If you already hold elite status with another hotel program (Marriott Bonvoy Gold or higher, IHG Gold or higher, World of Hyatt Explorist or Globalist, Best Western Rewards Diamond), you can request a status match with Hilton.

The status match gives you a 90-day Gold trial. To retain it, you must complete 6 nights during this period. To upgrade directly to Diamond status, 12 nights are required.

US Hilton Amex Cards

For those who possess US credit cards, several US Amex cards offer automatic Hilton status. The Hilton Aspire Card (US$550 annual fee) grants Diamond status as long as you hold the card. The Hilton Surpass and Hilton Business cards automatically grant Gold status.

This is an option to consider if you already have a credit history in the United States. For Canadians who wish to start, the American Express Global Transfer program allows you to transfer your Canadian relationship to obtain a first US card.

Traditional Qualification by Stays

The classic path to obtaining Hilton status requires a volume of nights within the same calendar year. Hilton has lowered its thresholds for 2026: Gold is now accessible from 25 nights, compared to 40 nights previously. Base points no longer count as a qualification criterion. What now counts is the number of nights, stays, or dollar spending.

Status	Nights Required	Stays Required	Spending Required (US$)
Silver	10 nights	4 stays	US$2,500
Gold	25 nights	15 stays	$6,000 USD
Diamond	50 nights	25 stays	$11,500 USD
Diamond Reserve	80 nights AND US$18,000	40 stays AND US$18,000	US$18,000 (mandatory)

Diamond Reserve: The New Highest Tier

In 2026, Hilton launched a new Diamond Reserve status, above Diamond. It requires 80 nights (or 40 stays) AND US$18,000 in annual spending, with both conditions being mandatory.

Its exclusive benefits include a guaranteed 4 PM late checkout, a confirmable upgrade at the time of booking, access to premium clubs, and a 120% points bonus. Unlike Gold and Diamond, this status cannot be obtained via a credit card.

Comparison of Methods to Obtain Gold Status

To help you choose the best approach for your situation, here is a comparison of the main methods for accessing Hilton Gold status in Canada.

Method	Status Obtained	Nights Required	Annual Card Fee	Main Condition
Scotiabank^MD Gold American Express^MD^® Card* (Fast Track)	Gold	5 nights (1 stay)	$120	Activate via Ten portal
American Express Platinum Card^® Canada	Gold (automatic)	0 nights	$799	Hold the card
Hilton Status Match	Gold	6 nights (90 days)	Variable	Elite status in another program
Amex US Hilton Aspire	Diamond (automatic)	0 nights	US$550	US credit history
Traditional Qualification	Gold	25 nights / year	None	Frequent traveler

The Hilton Silver offer via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card stands out for its effort-to-result ratio. With only 5 nights in a single stay and a card with an annual fee of $120 (waived for the first year for accounts opened before July 1, 2026), you gain access to Gold. This is the most accessible method for occasional travellers who plan at least one Hilton stay of a few days in 2026.

Limitations of the Offer to Be Aware Of

Before diving in, a few points deserve your attention.

Temporary Offer: available in 2026 only. There is no guarantee it will be renewed next year
Continuous Stay Required: the 3 or 5 nights must be consecutive at the same hotel, not spread across multiple stays
Silver is Modest: if you do not reach 3 or 5 nights during the 90 days, the Silver benefits remain limited
Access via Ten Portal Only: you must be enrolled in the Scotia Gold Amex Ten concierge service to view and activate the offer
Post-Trial Status Duration Not Confirmed: the exact duration of Silver or Gold status obtained after the fast track is not specified in the current offer’s terms and conditions

Who This Offer Is Ideal For

This offer is not for everyone. Here are the profiles that will derive the most value from it.

Current Scotiabank Gold American Express Cardholders: you already have the card; the offer is a free bonus to activate
Travelers Planning a Hilton Stay of 5 Nights or More: you reach Gold in a single trip, with no extra effort
Travelers Without Current Hotel Status: if you do not have status to match, this offer is your simplest gateway to Hilton Gold
Those Who Do Not Want to Pay $799 for the Amex Platinum Card: Gold via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card costs much less, even when counting the 5 hotel nights

The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

Beyond Hilton status, the Scotiabank Gold American Express^® Card* is one of the best rewards cards in Canada for everyday spending. Here are its Scene+ point accumulation rates.

Expense category	Earning Rate
Sobeys, IGA, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo, Voilà and affiliates	6x Scene+ points per dollar
Restaurants, food delivery, other grocery stores	5x Scene+ points per dollar
Entertainment (cinema, theater, ticketing)	5x Scene+ points per dollar
Gas and daily transportation (taxi, bus, ride-sharing)	3x Scene+ points per dollar
Streaming subscriptions	3x Scene+ points per dollar
All other purchases	1x Scene+ point per dollar

The card does not apply the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on foreign currency purchases. Only the exchange rate applies. This is a significant advantage for travelers, whether for online purchases or abroad. Consult our page on the best credit cards for foreign currencies to compare options.

The current welcome offer, valid until November 1, 2026, allows you to accumulate up to 50,000 Scene+ points: 30,000 points by spending $2,000 in the first 3 months, then an additional 20,000 points by reaching $7,500 in spending within the first 12 months. The annual fee of $120 is waived for the first year. These 45,000 points are worth $450 in travel credits.

Conclusion

The Hilton Silver offer via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card is an interesting addition to an already solid card. Silver status alone will not transform your Hilton stays. The possibility of upgrading to Gold status with only 5 consecutive nights is a game-changer for anyone planning a slightly longer trip this year.

If you already hold the card, log in to the Ten portal and keep the offer in reserve until you have a confirmed Hilton stay. If you don’t have it yet, the 50,000 Scene+ point welcome offer combined with this fast track to Hilton Gold makes the card all the more attractive.

Hilton Silver via the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card – Frequently Asked Questions

How do I activate the Hilton Silver trial with the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card?

Log in to the Ten concierge portal of your Scotiabank Gold American Express Card. The offer is found under the « Offers & Experiences » section. You must also be a Hilton Honors member (free enrollment) for Silver status to be applied to your account.

How many nights are required to keep Silver status?

You must complete a 3-night consecutive stay at a Hilton hotel during the 90-day trial period. If you do not complete these nights, Silver status expires at the end of 90 days.

How many nights to upgrade to Gold status?

You must complete a 5-night consecutive stay at the same Hilton hotel during the 90-day trial. Gold status gives you access to complimentary continental breakfast outside the United States (or a daily food credit in the United States), room upgrades, and 80% bonus points on stays.

What are the criteria for obtaining Hilton Gold status in 2026?

In 2026, Hilton reduced the qualification thresholds. Gold status is now obtained with 25 nights, 15 stays, or US$6,000 in spending per calendar year, compared to 40 nights previously. Base points no longer count as a qualification criterion.

Is the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card offer valid all year?

Yes, the offer is available throughout 2026. You can choose when to activate it according to your travel plans. It is advisable to activate the Silver trial 1 to 2 weeks before a planned Hilton stay, to benefit from the status upon arrival.

Ideal Activation Strategy
