With grocery prices continuously increasing, it’s more important than ever to find ways to save.
Rewards programs like PC Optimum are a great way to get something extra from your essential purchases and make your regular trips to the grocery store a little less painful.
We’ve put together a list of 7 ways to maximize the number of PC Optimum points you earn at Loblaws, No Frills, and beyond, so that you can get free groceries more often.
How To Save at Loblaws, No Frills, and Beyond with PC Optimum
Check your offers
Earning PC Optimum points at eligible grocery stores actually works quite differently from how you earn at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix.
In fact, if you’re expecting to just scan your member card and get a set number of points for every dollar you spend at your local Loblaws or No Frills, you’re in for a rude surprise.
The only ways to earn PC Optimum points at your favourite eligible grocery store are by purchasing specific products that are found in your personalized offers, through special promotions, or listed in the store/in the flyer.
You can find your offers by logging in on the PC Optimum website or app and clicking on « Offers. » Under this tab, you’ll usually find the chance to earn points on items you purchase often, and on promotional items that change each week.
To make sure you’re earning on all possible items, be sure to check for new offers once a week, as they tend to update around the same time as the new store flyer comes out.
Activate digital coupons
Another way to maximize the number of PC Optimum points you earn at Loblaws, No Frills, or whichever participating grocery store you shop at most is by activating your digital coupons and exclusive offers.
The available digital coupons are often different for each person and each store brand. Additionally, when you open your PC Optimum app or the website and click on Digital Coupons, you’ll notice that your coupons are generally just for your « home store, » which is the store you shop at the most.
A nice feature of the PC Optimum offers and coupons is that there are occasionally chances to stack multiple earning opportunities together and earn even more points on a single item.
For example, if you activated the digital coupon for PC Crackers circled above and combined it with the pre-loaded offer below, you could earn up to 850 PC Optimum points for each package of crackers you buy.
That’s nearly a dollar’s worth of points just for checking the PC Optimum app and clicking a checkbox.
Watch for member specials and in-store offers
If you’re looking for a more classic way to save on groceries, you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes on each store’s flyers (both online and in-store) and on in-aisle signage to watch for weekly opportunities to earn points.
Additionally, Loblaws, No Frills, and other participating grocery stores regularly offer special discounted pricing for PC Optimum members.
Essentially, you’ll see these tiered prices listed in the flyers and on in-store signage, with one price for non-members and another price for PC Optimum members. To enjoy this member perk, just make sure to scan your card at check-out to access the lower price.
Get more on Moredays
One of the most lucrative chances to build your PC Optimum points balance and save at Loblaws, No Frills, and loads of other eligible grocery brands is by shopping during a Moredays event.
During these savings events (which usually happen 2-3 times a year), there are opportunities to earn thousands of points, giving you the ability to save big on loads of your regular product choices.
Spend with a PC Financial credit card
If you really want to boost your ability to save on groceries at Loblaws, No Frills, and beyond, you may want to consider getting one of the 4 PC Financial credit cards so you can earn PC Optimum points on all your purchases.
PC Financial offers the following 4 card options, with the first three available for no annual fee:

Earn at your favourite participating grocery stores
The PC Optimum program is owned by Loblaws Companies Ltd., and is available at all of their grocery store brands, including:
Loblaws
No Frills
Real Canadian Superstore
Zehrs
Fortinos
Valu-mart
Freshmart
Your Independent Grocer
T&T Supermarket
Maxi
Provigo
and more!
This means that when buying groceries, you can not only earn PC Optimum at Loblaws and No Frills, but also at all of the above store brands and more!
However, keep in mind that while some of the offers you find on the PC Optimum app and website are for products that can often be found at all grocery stores, many other offers, coupons, and pricing are specifically for your home store, so you likely won’t be able to use them across all brands.
Bottom Line
With the PC Optimum program, you can earn your way to grocery store savings each week by doing a bit of research, having a plan/strategy, and keeping your eyes open while you peruse the aisles.
Given this, if you shop at Loblaws, No Frills, or any of the other Loblaws-associated grocery stores, you should definitely have a PC Optimum card since it’s free to join and it only takes a little time to set yourself up to save on groceries and more.
How many PC Optimum points do I earn at Loblaws, No Frills, and other grocery stores?
The number of PC Optimum points that you earn at Loblaws, No Frills, and other grocery stores within the Loblaws Co. Ltd. brands depends on the current offers available in-store, in the flyer, on the program website, and through your account.
Unlike at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix, where you earn a base number of points per $1 spent at the stores, earning points at grocery stores is done through special offers and promotions.
You can find out how many points you earned on your recent grocery shop by checking the bottom of your receipt or by looking at your PC Optimum account information.
How do I redeem my PC Optimum points for free groceries?
You can redeem your PC Optimum points for free groceries at any of the participating grocery stores once you’ve got at least 10,000 points.
Once you’ve got 10,000 points, you can redeem them for $10 off your groceries by asking the cashier at check-out, choosing the option at self-checkout, or using the points when making an online grocery order.
How do I get PC Optimum offers and coupons?
To get your PC Optimum offers and coupons, simply sign in to your PC Optimum account on the program’s website or app.
You can then click on offers to see the different special offers and points-earning opportunities that are currently available. You’ll also want to click on Digital Coupons to activate additional savings.
Do my PC Optimum points expire?
No, your PC Optimum points don’t expire. However, if your account is inactive for 2 years, it may be closed, so make sure to earn or redeem points at least once every 24 months.
