The MOI program brings together banners that are major retailers in Quebec, and has partnered with RBC to create a new co-branded credit card. Here’s what you need to know about these major changes.

With all this, Jean Coutu is no longer a partner of the AIR MILES program since May 15, 2023.

New program, new retailers

As of May 25, 2023, Metro, Jean Coutu, Super C, Brunet and Première Moisson are officially part of the Moi program. Thanks to all these businesses, this new program will be present in over 900 locations in Quebec.

The METRO inc. team has promised personalized offers and additional benefits for this Moi program.

Since the launch of the Moi program, membership has grown from 1.2 million to 2.5 million members. Since May 2023, 65 million dollars in points have been redeemed by members (or approximately 81 million Moi points). It is the most widely used rewards program in Quebec.

Former metro&moi program members did not need to join the new program. The same loyalty card and metro&moi number still work in the new Moi program.

However, the Metro mobile application had to be updated, with a new design that now offers the Moi program.

For those who want to become members, they can join the Moi program here for free.

Furthermore, Metro stores in Ontario will be leaving the AIR MILES program to join the Moi program by the end of 2024.

Earning and redemption of points

Members can still redeem accumulated points in increments of 125 points, with a minimum of 500 MOI points for $4 in rebates.

The only change is that the member no longer has to wait every quarter to get their « check ». From now on, points to be exchanged are available at any time, always with a minimum of 500 points.

Unredeemed reward vouchers as of April 27, 2023 will be transferred to the account automatically. Then, they can be exchanged in all Metro, Jean Coutu, Super C, Brunet and Première Moisson.

Moi points earning:

  • Metro: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Jean Coutu: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Super C: No base points to earn. Points will be earned based on targeted products and personalized offers.
  • Brunet: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Première Moisson: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes

Additional points will also be offered for personalized offers, on specific in-store products and contests for members. In addition, special prices on certain items will be exclusively for Moi members.

There’s a long list of exclusions on items that don’t earn Moi points:

(…) Tobacco products, lottery tickets, transit passes and cards, gift cards and other prepaid cards, stamps, postal services, dry cleaning, movie and video game rentals, any deposit fees and eco-fees, SAQ products, alcoholic beverages outside the province of Quebec, fees related to order fulfillment and delivery, donations, utensils for ready-to-eat products, certain products offered on participating partner platforms, products offered by food waste reduction platforms, perfume discovery sets, items related to a fundraising campaign, prescription drugs, other medications and other products and services related to pharmacy or health care

Jean Coutu switches from AIR MILES to the moi program

You can earn and redeem points with the Moi chez Jean Coutu program. To access your personalized offers, you need to download the « Jean Coutu & Moi » application and log in with your member information (which is the same as with the old metro&moi program).

Customers of Brunet branches have to go through the same process to access their offers, using the « Brunet & Moi » application.

moi: METRO's rewards program - Jean Coutu and moi app

May 14, 2023 was the last day of the AIR MILES program at Jean Coutu. As we had suspected for some time, Jean Coutu has left the AIR MILES loyalty program to join the Moi program from METRO Group Inc.

AIR MILES reward miles are not lost and remain in the AIR MILES account. However, it is no longer possible to collect or redeem AIR MILES miles at Jean Coutu stores since May 15, 2023.

All Jean Coutu locations in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick were affected by this change. This is another loss for AIR MILES, like Staples and IGA recently.

How does the moi card work?

You can earn 1 Moi point for every $1 spent at Metro, Jean Coutu, Brunet and Première Moisson. You can earn more points with personalized coupons and moi points on selected in-store products. This changes every week.

For Super C, points are earned on certain products and special offers only.

How to join and register for the moi program?

For those who want to become members, they can join the Moi program here for free.

When is the Metro&me rewards check sent?

With the old Metro&me program, it was every 3 months in Metro grocery stores.

However, since May 2023, points can be redeemed at any time, with the new Moi program. A minimum of 500 points in the account will be required and they can be redeemed at all Metro, Jean Coutu, Super C, Brunet and Première Moisson locations.

Which stores accept the Moi points card?

By shopping for all your daily needs at these Metro Inc stores :

  • Metro: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Jean Coutu: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Super C: No base points to earn. Points will be earned based on targeted products and personalized offers.
  • Brunet: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes
  • Première Moisson: 1 Moi point = $1 on purchases before taxes

What’s more, each week, featured products will earn more bonus Moi points.

Can I earn Moi points at Brunet and Super C?

At Super C, no base points to accumulate. Points will be earned based on targeted products and personalized offers. Therefore, even if you have a $100 bill, you will not necessarily have 100 Moi points.

At Brunet, it’s different. You earn 1 Moi point for every dollar you spend. What’s more, each week, featured products and personalized offers will earn you more bonus Moi points.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
