At Milesopedia, we know that every point counts, whether it’s points for travel or points to save on everyday expenses.

Loblaws’ PC Optimum program, available at Maxi and Provigo in Quebec, is one of the best options to earn rewards and save on groceries.

Here are five tricks to earn PC Optimum points faster, which you can then exchange for free groceries.

How to Earn PC Optimum Points at Maxi

Activate PC Optimum Offers Every Week

At Maxi and Provigo, the PC Optimum program does NOT automatically give you points on all your purchases. In fact, points are earned only when purchasing products covered by special offers, personalized offers, or in-store offers.

This particularity of the PC Optimum program still surprises many PC Optimum members. You can spend $200 on groceries and leave with zero points if you haven’t activated your offers or if you haven’t purchased products with bonus PC Optimum points.

Every Thursday morning or before going grocery shopping at Maxi or Provigo, open your PC Optimum mobile app or go to the PC Optimum website to activate your offers.

Combine Offers

One of the tips to maximize your PC Optimum points is to combine several offers on the same purchase.

In this example, I have a general offer on eggs: 3,000 points when you spend $20 or more on all eggs, and a personalized offer where I earn 100 points for every dollar spent on eggs.

So, by purchasing $20 worth of eggs, I get both offers for a total of 5,000 PC Optimum points:

  • 3,000 points from the general offer
  • 2,000 additional points from the personalized offer ($20 × 100 points)

It’s as if the eggs cost me $15 in total ($20 minus 5,000 points = $5).

Digital Coupons

In addition to traditional PC Optimum offers, Maxi offers a dedicated section for digital coupons that provides immediate discounts or bonus points on the purchase of certain products.

In your PC Optimum app, locate the Your Digital Coupons section. Browse the list of available coupons and activate all the coupons that interest you. Then, discounts and points will automatically apply at checkout when purchasing that product.

Plan your shopping accordingly, as end dates may vary for each product. Also, make sure to check the fine print, as some coupons can only be used once.

Points Days Events

Several times a year, Maxi hosts its popular Points Days events. These are promotional events that represent the best opportunities to earn PC Optimum points all year round.

Here is an example of the latest promotion:

  • Cereal for just $1.50 per box ($5.50 minus 4,000 PC Optimum points = $4)
  • Knorr products or Pillsbury products at half price ($10 spent minus 5,000 points = $5)

Plan your purchases accordingly, especially for products with a distant expiration date. And most importantly, focus on products you already consume and don’t buy products just for the points.

Having a PC Optimum credit card from PC Financial

Maxi and Provigo accept Visa and Mastercard, but not American Express. PC Financial offers three Mastercard credit cards that earn PC Optimum points:

Each earns more points on purchases made at Maxi and Provigo. Here is the difference in points earned between these three cards per dollar spent on each card:

World Elite Mastercard PCPC World MastercardPC Mastercard
Number of Points Earned at Maxi and Provigo302010

So, if you make a $100 purchase at Provigo or Maxi and pay with your PC World Elite Mastercard, you will earn 3,000 PC Optimum points (30 points x $100).

This is in addition to the extra points you would have received through personalized offers, in-store offers, and general offers.

The important thing is to choose a PC credit card that suits you and that you will use responsibly, by always paying the full balance each month, to avoid interest charges that would negate all benefits!

A person who is a PC Optimum member, activates their offers every week, intelligently combines promotions, and takes advantage of special events is always a winner!

How to earn PC Optimum points on all my purchases at Maxi and Provigo?

PC Optimum only gives points on products covered by special flyer offers or offers activated beforehand. You must activate your personalized offers in the PC Optimum app before each purchase, otherwise you will not earn any points, even on a purchase of several hundred dollars.

How to activate my PC Optimum offers for Maxi or Provigo to earn points?

Via the PC Optimum mobile app: Download the free PC Optimum mobile app to your phone and log in to your account. Simply opening the « My Offers » section automatically activates them.

Via the website: Go to pcoptimum.ca, log in to your account, and click on « My Offers ». This method works on computer, tablet, or phone.

How often should I activate my weekly personalized PC Optimum offers at Maxi or Provigo?

At least weekly, ideally every Thursday morning as that’s when new weekly offers appear. However, new offers can appear at any time, especially before the weekend.

When do PC Optimum points expire? Do they have an expiration date?

Your PC Optimum account must remain active to keep your points indefinitely. However, your account could be closed if you do not earn ANY points AND do not redeem ANY points for 24 consecutive months (2 full years).

To keep it active, make a purchase at Shoppers Drug Mart, where any eligible purchase gives you 15 points for every dollar spent in-store.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
