To the point Linking your RBC card to your Moi card adds 1 bonus point per $2 of spending. The three-step tutorial, the minimum basket at each banner, and the delays to expect.

When you link your RBC card to your Moi card, you earn 1 bonus Moi point per $2 of eligible spending, as long as you reach the store’s minimum basket. You set it up in RBC Online Banking, in three steps, and it takes up to two business days before it applies to your purchases.

The program is called Avion Rewards and Moi Loyalty Card Linking. It is aimed at RBC cardholders who already shop at Metro, Super C, Food Basics, Jean Coutu, Brunet or Première Moisson. Many leave points on the table without knowing it.

What does linking change?

With linking, every trip through the checkout adds 1 bonus Moi point per $2 spent. You need to scan your Moi card and pay with the linked RBC card. Without it, only the program’s base points accumulate.

The spending threshold changes with the banner:

  • $60 minimum at Metro, Food Basics and Super C
  • $40 minimum at Jean Coutu and Brunet
  • $20 minimum at Première Moisson

The threshold is calculated on the eligible basket. A $55 trip to Metro earns the program’s base points, and the linking bonus is added from $60 up.

Linking happens entirely inside RBC Online Banking. Have your online banking access and your Moi membership card number on hand.

Step 1: sign in to RBC

Sign in to RBC Online Banking, then open the account for the card you want to link. In the right-hand column, under the account shortcuts, look for Link or Update – Moi program. RBC groups its other loyalty links in the same place: More Rewards, Petro-Points, Rexall Be Well and Triangle Rewards.

Step 2: enter your Moi card number

Enter your Moi membership card number. The confirmation screen shows the last four digits of the Moi card and lists the eligible RBC cards that will be attached to it. Two boxes need to be checked: acceptance of the program terms, and the data sharing between RBC and Metro that powers personalized offers.

No Moi card yet? You can join online at programmemoi.ca, through the app of a participating banner, or at the checkout in store with a phone number or an email address.

Step 3: wait for confirmation

The request registers immediately. RBC then allows up to two business days before your purchases start generating bonus points, and you are notified as soon as the link is active.

moi RBC Visa or a linked RBC card?

Both routes earn Moi points, and RBC leaves the choice open. The moi RBC Visa on one side, an RBC card already in your wallet simply linked on the other. The official page presents them as two distinct options, and each takes the lead depending on the banner.

The moi RBC Visa pays 1 bonus point per dollar at Metro, Brunet and Première Moisson in Quebec. The same rate applies at Jean Coutu, in Quebec as well as in New Brunswick and Ontario. The rate follows the banner elsewhere: 1 point per $3 at Metro in Ontario. At Super C and Food Basics, the benefit comes through the Moi bonus point offers made periodically. A plain linked RBC card, for its part, pays its 50 points per $100 across every participating banner.

The choice therefore follows the banners you shop at. At Metro in Quebec, at Brunet, at Première Moisson and at Jean Coutu, the moi RBC Visa doubles your bonus. At Super C, at Food Basics and at Metro in Ontario, an RBC card already in your wallet is enough to earn, with no new credit application.

When your points show up

Your bonus points are earned the moment you go through the checkout. Their appearance in the Moi account follows a longer schedule, and that is what surprises most members.

RBC allows up to 90 days from the date the transaction appears on your credit card statement. A balance that looks short in November may therefore reflect September purchases still in processing.

Which purchases earn points?

Points apply to eligible purchases, before taxes. The vast majority of a grocery, pharmacy or bakery basket qualifies.

A few categories sit outside the program, and they explain most gaps between the receipt total and the points received:

  • Prescription drugs and pharmacy or health-care products
  • SAQ products and alcohol purchased outside Quebec
  • Tobacco, lottery tickets, transit tickets and passes
  • Gift cards, prepaid cards, stamps and postal services
  • Taxes, eco-fees, deposits and delivery charges
  • Donations, fundraising items and dry cleaning

A mixed pharmacy bill where the prescription accounts for half the total therefore earns points on the other half. Metro also reserves the right to add or remove eligible items, and the list varies from province to province.

Moi contests: what does linking do?

The Moi program runs contests continuously, often tied to a banner or a brand. An entry is triggered by simply scanning the card at the checkout.

Some of those contests grant a multiplier to members holding a moi RBC Visa linked to a valid Moi card. The extravaMoi contest, with $773,400 in prizes, granted five times the entries for every entry with or without purchase. The perk is read case by case: the following contest, three $500 Metro gift cards, did not carry that clause. The rules of each contest give the answer.

Keeping your Moi points active

Your Moi points stay yours as long as the account lives, and they carry no expiry date of their own. A single purchase in store or online at a participating banner is enough to keep the account active, and so is a redemption.

After 18 months with no activity, unused points expire and the account is deactivated. The program sends a first notice at 16 months of inactivity, then a final notification at 18 months.

The same RBC page lets you link your card to your Petro-Points. The combined benefit reaches up to 7 cents per litre. It combines 3 cents saved instantly at the pump and 20% more Petro-Points, worth roughly 1.2 cents per litre. On top of that come 20% more Avion points, valued at about 2.8 cents per litre.

RBC puts the benefit at $100 of annual value for three fill-ups a month, on every fuel type and with no volume limit. Only certain RBC cards earn Avion points.

This link is independent of the Moi one: both can sit on the same card, and the path is the same inside RBC Online Banking.
