Flying Blue Moves Its Reward Tickets to Light, Standard and Flex Fares
Air France-KLM is changing the structure of Flying Blue reward tickets. From September 8, 2026, every new Miles booking on a flight operated by Air France or KLM will come in one of three fares: Light, Standard and Flex. Reward tickets issued on SkyTeam partners do not change.
Officially, Flying Blue promises « more flexibility for your travels ». In practice, keeping today’s conditions, meaning an included checked bag and the option to change your ticket, will require 20 to 30% more Miles depending on the route. Three reward ticket fares
Flying Blue is copying the branded fare logic already in place on Air France and KLM cash tickets. Each option targets a different traveller profile.
- Light: the basic option, designed for travelling light, with no checked bag and no flexibility.
- Standard: the equivalent of today’s conditions, with a checked bag and changes available for a fee.
- Flex: the complete experience, with changes and refunds included, free seat selection and a lower mandatory cash contribution at booking.
The change covers all flights operated and marketed by Air France and KLM, in every booking class except La Première (P and F classes). Also, an itinerary that mixes an Air France or KLM flight with a partner flight will only book into the Standard fare. Finally, you can combine fares across cabins, but only within the same brand: Light economy with Light business, for example, never Light with Flex.

In other words, the Light fare removes the checked bag that has been included with every reward ticket until now. The €70 change fee matches today’s conditions, which now belong to the Standard fare only.

Concretely, the Standard fare, which matches today’s conditions, costs 20 to 30% more Miles than the current floor price. On the other hand, the Flex fare cuts carrier surcharges, sometimes by roughly half on long-haul flights. Amounts above appear as communicated, in US dollars or euros depending on the example.
One more useful nuance, confirmed by Flying Blue: the Light fare will only appear at the lowest award prices. As a result, a business reward priced at 90,000 Miles instead of 60,000 will book directly into Standard.
Your status benefits still apply
Flying Blue confirms that status benefits keep applying on the day of departure, whatever fare you choose.
- Silver, Gold and Platinum: the extra baggage allowance tied to your status remains, even on a Light ticket.
- Silver and Gold: SkyPriority benefits apply; Gold members also keep lounge access.
- Platinum, Platinum for Life and Ultimate: free changes and cancellations, including on Light tickets. Flying Blue has confirmed it directly.
- SkyTeam Elite Plus: alliance benefits, such as lounge access and the extra bag, stay in place.
Already booked? Nothing changes
Reward tickets issued before September 8, 2026 keep their conditions. Furthermore, if you change an unused ticket after that date, the original conditions still apply.
Monthly Promo Rewards also carry on. According to early information from the program, they will be issued as Light fares, so with the matching restrictions.
Finally, two useful details: a reward booked with partner miles (Delta SkyMiles or Virgin Atlantic, for example) on an Air France or KLM flight will be issued with Standard conditions, and any service excluded from your fare, such as an extra bag, can be purchased separately at booking or afterwards.
