Expedia for TD

When booking your trip on the Expedia for TD website, you can apply your TD Rewards points directly at the time of purchase. This is the best value you can get for your TD Rewards points: 0.5 cents per point.

So 100,000 points = $500.

We’re going with the former because you can earn TD Rewards points at the best rate (up to 8 points per dollar) through the Expedia for TD website.

In practice, you have to connect with your login and password on the specific Expedia for the TD website (attention: do not make reservations directly on Expedia.ca!). You will then access your TD Rewards point balance and its dollar equivalent.

Then, all you have to do is search for a trip (hotel, flight, package, etc.) and proceed with the reservation.

You can then apply your TD Rewards points directly to that reservation (and if you don’t have enough points, the balance will be charged to your TD Rewards credit card).

Please note: Expedia for TD has been explicitly designed for TD members to use their TD Rewards points. Therefore, you cannot go directly to Expedia.ca or earn points with the Expedia Rewards loyalty program.

However, the rates are identical between Expedia for TD and Expedia.ca.

Other Trips

When you book your trip with any travel provider using your TD Rewards credit card, you can apply your points to the purchase (within 90 days).

This is the second best value you can get for your TD Rewards points: 0.4 cents per point.

So 100,000 points = $400.

This solution can be attractive for travel expenses you could not make on the Expedia for TD website (golf round fees, airport parking, ski lift tickets, etc.).

Other rewards

You can redeem your points for gift cards, items, or even cash back.

However, in our opinion, you will never get good value for your points this way. For example, if you redeem 10,000 points for cash back, you’ll only get $25, which is half of what you would get with a travel purchase ($50).

It is therefore much more interesting to use your points for travel as explained above.

How much is a TD Rewards point worth?

The value of a TD Rewards point depends on how you redeem. The best rate comes through Expedia For TD, where 1 point equals 0.5¢ — 100,000 points convert to $500 in bookings. Travel purchases made outside the Expedia portal in the past 90 days (flights, hotels, golf courses, parking, lift tickets) redeem at 0.4¢ per point. Gift cards, merchandise and cash back generally clear at 0.25¢ per point — half the value of Expedia bookings. Milesopedia values a TD Rewards point at 0.5¢ on average, which assumes you redeem exclusively through Expedia For TD and never through merchandise or gift cards.

Which TD credit cards earn TD Rewards points?

Four cards feed the TD Rewards program. The TD First Class Travel^® Visa Infinite* Card is the flagship — up to 8 points per dollar on Expedia For TD, 6 points per dollar on groceries, dining and transit, 4 points per dollar on subscriptions and recurring bills, and 2 points per dollar everywhere else. The TD Platinum Travel Visa earns 4.5 points per dollar on Expedia and 3 points per dollar on groceries. The TD Rewards Visa* Card and the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite* Card also accumulate points, but at lower base rates than the travel-branded cards.

Why does Expedia For TD deliver the best return?

Expedia For TD is engineered to give the highest redemption rate in the program: 100 points = 50¢, double the value of merchandise or gift cards. You can also combine points with your TD credit card on a single booking, which removes any minimum-redemption hurdle. Flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises and activities all qualify, and you continue earning up to 8 points per dollar with the First Class Travel Visa Infinite — creating a tight earn-and-burn loop. A $1,000 trip booked through Expedia For TD with the First Class Travel card returns 8,000 points, equal to $40 toward a future booking.

What’s the difference between TD Rewards and TD Aeroplan?

The two programs run side by side but are entirely separate. TD Rewards is TD’s in-house program, redeemable through Expedia For TD or as a credit against past travel purchases — points cannot transfer to airline partners. How many points do I need for a Toronto-London flight?

Through Expedia For TD, a Toronto-to-London round-trip economy flight at $1,000 would require 200,000 TD Rewards points (at 0.5¢ per point). That’s noticeably more than the 60,000-80,000 Aeroplan points typically needed for the same route on a Star Alliance partner during off-peak windows. TD Rewards is therefore not the program of choice for transatlantic redemptions. Where it does shine is on non-airline travel purchases — boutique hotels, car rentals, cruises and tours — which Aeroplan doesn’t cover well. For these spend categories, Expedia For TD offers stable, predictable value that few in-house programs can match.

Do TD Rewards points expire?

Yes, TD Rewards points can expire under two scenarios. First, if you have no eligible transactions on your card for 12 consecutive months, your balance is wiped out. Second, if you close your card, your points are forfeited within 90 days — unless another active TD Rewards card sits on the same account. This differs from TD Aeroplan, where points remain in your personal Aeroplan account regardless of TD card status. To avoid any loss, redeem points regularly through Expedia For TD rather than letting balances pile up, especially before cancelling a card or migrating to a different product line.
