WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ Companion Voucher: Comparing the 4 Redemption Options

Sponsored content, produced in partnership with RBC.
The WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ companion voucher5 is one of the most valuable features available with the card, but it's also one of the least understood.
Offering the choice of a flat-rate companion fare, a savings of 30%8 off a solo fare, credit towards a vacation package9, or airport lounge passes¹0, this companion voucher is a useful and versatile offer.
To help you better understand this travel perk, in this article, we'll compare your 4 redemption options, and clarify how to get your hands on your annual voucher.
The companion voucher5 is offered to eligible WestJet Rewards members who hold the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡.
As a new cardholder, you get your first companion voucher after being approved and making your first purchase. Then, for vouchers issued on or after November 5, 2026, you earn your annual companion voucher when you spend $5,000 on your card each year5. Each voucher you earn will be valid for one year from the date it's issued.
The companion voucher is a favourite perk of cardholders because it's not too difficult to earn, and it can be exchanged for a flat-rate companion fare5, a 30% discount on eligible base fares8, a $200 credit for eligible vacation packages9, or 2 airport lounge passes¹0.
As mentioned above, there are four possible ways to redeem your companion voucher:
In the sections below, we'll dig into each of these options to see which ones offer the most value and which might be the right choice for you.

The first redemption option is the classic choice that the companion voucher was both designed and named for: redeeming for a flat-rate base fare for a companion travelling with you5.
With this option, rather than pay the posted price for your companion's airfare, you instead pay a flat rate (plus taxes, fees, surcharges and other ATC) based on your route and fare type, as below:
For round-trips within Canada or to/from the continental US:
For round-trips to/from the rest of the WestJet network:
Keep in mind that WestJet currently adds a temporary fuel surcharge to every booking made with a companion voucher ($40 since late June 2026). It appears in the “Other ATC” section, with the taxes and fees you pay at booking.
Now, to see the value of the WestJet companion voucher in action, let's look at an example redemption using the companion fare option.
In this example, we're imagining that you and your friend want to fly return between Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR).
You choose EconoFlex fares departing on June 19, 2027 and returning on June 26, 2027, with the individual fares coming in at $1,048.81.

As shown in the images above, the base fare for these tickets is $756.00. This means that if you (Traveller 1) pay the full price for this EconoFlex return fare between Toronto and Vancouver at $1,048.81, you could then redeem your companion voucher to bring the base fare for your companion (Traveller 2) down from $756.00 down to $119. This saves you an impressive $637.00!

If you don't have plans to travel with a friend before the expiry date for your companion voucher, another option is to exchange it for a 30% flight discount8. With this redemption avenue, you exchange your voucher for a discount code that gets you a one-time 30% discount off the base fare for one traveller, one-way or round-trip, anywhere in WestJet's network.
When choosing your flights, keep in mind that while there are no blackout dates for flights within Canada, some blackout dates do apply for travel outside of Canada. You can find the full list of blackout dates on WestJet's website.
Some key details to be aware of if you're planning to use this redemption option:
To see the 30% base fare discount in action8, let's take a look at a possible route from Calgary (YYC) to Seoul (ICN).
We've searched for an EconoFlex fare flying on WestJet from Calgary to Seoul on June 4, 2027, and flying back on WestJet on June 18, 2027, avoiding any blackout dates.
The base fare for this round-trip flight is $1,262 (as shown in the image below). That means that exchanging your companion voucher for a 30% discount code8 and using it for a solo adventure to South Korea could bring your base fare down to $883.40, saving you $378.60!

The third option for redeeming your companion voucher is to exchange it for a $200 credit9 that can be used to save on a WestJet Vacation package or a Sunwing Vacation package.
The benefit of this option is that it offers a guaranteed savings of $200 without having to search for eligible flights and dig into the details for base fare costs versus full fare costs.
For example, you could book an all-inclusive two-person trip on WestJet from Toronto (YYZ) to the ever-popular Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) in February 2027 for $1,728 per person. Then by exchanging your companion voucher for the vacation credit option, you could save $200 of the ~$3,456.00 total.

The details to keep in mind when selecting this redemption option include:

Your fourth and final option for redeeming your companion voucher is to exchange it for two airport lounge vouchers valid at ~20 airports around the world¹0.
Airport lounge vouchers can be used by the primary credit card holder and a guest who is taking a same-day WestJet flight from the same airport. Conveniently, if you, as the primary cardholder, already have access to lounge passes through your Silver, Gold, or Platinum WestJet tier status, you're welcome to use the vouchers for additional guests accompanying you.
Since airport lounge entry fees usually cost around $60–65 per person for 2 hours, exchanging your voucher for two lounge passes nets you a value of around $120–130.
Eligible WestJet lounges can be found at www.westjet.com/lounges. Though the list is always changing, eligible lounges are currently available at the following airports:
| Canada | Mexico | Europe | Caribbean | Asia |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Calgary (YYC) Edmonton (YEG) Montreal (YUL) Ottawa (YOW) Toronto (YYZ) Vancouver (YVR) Winnipeg (YWG)
| Cancun (CUN) Mexico City (MEX) | Amsterdam (AMS) Paris (CDG) Dublin (DUB) Edinburgh (EDI) London (LGW & LHR) Rome (FCO) Barcelona (BCN) | Montego Bay (MBJ) | Seoul (ICN) Tokyo (NRT) |

To determine which of the 4 redemption options is best for you, you'll want to consider your travel preferences and any upcoming travel plans.
The flat-rate companion fare option and the 30% discount option have the largest savings potential, but in both cases, these savings depend heavily on the flights that interest you. In fact, in some cases, flights can have very low-cost base fares (even coming in below the flat-rate companion prices), leaving you with little to no opportunity to save using your companion voucher.
Alternatively, if you're someone who enjoys an all-inclusive vacation to a sun destination and/or you like the idea of a simple guaranteed-value savings, the $200 vacation credit is a great option.
Finally, the airport lounge passes are a good choice if your travel plans don't align for any of the other options, and you've got an upcoming trip through one of the ~20 eligible airports that host WestJet-associated lounges.
Just note that WestJet Silver members already get 6 lounge vouchers with their status, and Gold and Platinum members get unlimited lounge access. In these cases, you can use these additional lounge passes for your companions travelling with you.
In addition to the popular and valuable companion voucher, the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ also offers plenty more to entice fans of WestJet and travel in general.
On top of earning WestJet points on all purchases²,³, the card also gives you perks like:
