Offer Details

WestJet Rewards members will receive a discount of up to 40% when they purchase WestJet dollars. The discount varies based on the number of dollars purchased, starting from 2,500 dollars, and increases according to the tiers.

  • 2,500 to 4,999 WestJet points: 10% discount
  • 5,000 to 24,999 WestJet points: 20% discount
  • 25,000 to 49,999 WestJet points: 25% discount
  • 50,000 to 74,999 WestJet points: 30% discount
  • 75,000 to 149,999 WestJet points: 35% discount
  • 150,000 to 500,000 WestJet points: 40% discount

For example, buying 150,000 WestJet dollars will entitle you to the maximum discount of 40%, which is a price of approximately 1.2¢ per point (before taxes), amounting to $1,800 before taxes (taxes are added in Canada).

You can purchase up to 500,000 WestJet points per calendar year.

All purchases are non-refundable. For your information, taxes (GST/HST) may be added at the time of purchase (depending on your province/billing address). The price displayed in the promotion is therefore generally indicated before taxes.

Please note: Purchases are made via Points.com, a site external to WestJet. This will not count as an eligible purchase made with WestJet.

Is This Offer Worth It?

The WestJet Rewards program is easy to calculate: according to Milesopedia’s semi-annual estimate, 1 WestJet point is worth 1 cent.

At the current price and with the discount of up to 40% on the purchase of WestJet dollars, the cost drops to approximately 1.2 cents per point at best (before taxes). Since the value of a WestJet dollar typically hovers around 1 cent, buying points at more than 1 cent is usually not advantageous and you lose on the exchange. However, this promotion can be helpful in certain cases (for example, if you need to quickly top up your balance for a specific booking), provided you do the math.

However, this promotion can prove useful if you need to quickly top up your points balance to make a short-term booking.

A better alternative would be to sign up for the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard to get the welcome offer that will save you money on your next WestJet flight and enjoy the following benefits:

With the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ , you can earn up to 45,000 WestJet points as a welcome bonus:

  • 25,000 WestJet points on your first purchase
  • 20,000 WestJet points when you spend $5,000 within the first three months

With the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, you get a World Elite Companion Voucher redeemable for a round-trip flight at a reduced rate. What’s more, your purchases bring you one step closer to a status lift with WestJet.

Also, the primary cardholder and up to 8 guests benefit from free check-in of the first bag on WestJet flights.

With the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, you earn 2 WestJet points per dollar of purchase when you buy a flight, a WestJet or Sunwing vacation package, and 1.5 WestJet points on everyday purchases.

Finally, you benefit from extensive insurance coverage: out-of-province or out-of-country emergency medical insurance, travel accident insurance, trip interruption insurance, flight delay insurance and essential item purchases, hotel or motel burglary insurance, rental vehicle collision and damage insurance.

Bottom Line

This WestJet points purchase promotion is generally only advantageous in certain situations (for example, if you need to quickly top up your balance for a specific booking and the calculation works in your favor).

If you fly frequently with WestJet, we recommend applying for the WestJet RBC Mastercard or the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard to take advantage of welcome offers and save on your next flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current promotion on purchasing WestJet dollars?

Until May 5, 2026, WestJet is offering a discount of up to 40% on the price of WestJet dollars purchased, depending on the number of points purchased (tiers).

How do you get the 40% discount on WestJet dollars?

The discount is progressive: the more points you purchase, the higher the discount. The maximum discount of 40% applies to the highest tier (from 150,000 points purchased).

What is the price of a WestJet dollar with the promotion?

With the best tier, the price drops to approximately 1.2¢ per point (before taxes). Prices vary depending on the tier (20% to 40% discount) and taxes (GST/HST) may be added depending on your address/province.

Is it advantageous to purchase WestJet dollars?

In most cases, no, because a WestJet dollar is typically worth around 1¢, whereas even with the promotion, the cost is often above this value once taxes are included. However, it can be helpful if you need to top up your balance for a specific booking and your calculation is favorable.

What is the best alternative to purchasing WestJet dollars?

For people who travel frequently with WestJet, an often more attractive alternative is a WestJet RBC credit card (e.g., WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC), thanks to the welcome bonus and benefits that can reduce the cost of flights.
