The new advantages of World and World Elite Mastercard

World and World Elite Mastercard cards give you access to a range of benefits, across all issuers. Here are the main ones to know in 2026, as presented by Mastercard Canada:

For years, free Boingo Wi-Fi was part of the World and World Elite Mastercard benefits, including the excellent National Bank World Elite Mastercard.
I had the chance to test it successfully on Swiss or Singapore Airlines flights. It was convenient to have Wi-Fi to send in-flight photos to grandparents.

This benefit is no longer offered, however. Since October 1, 2024, Mastercard removed free Boingo Wi-Fi for World and World Elite cardholders, in Canada and elsewhere. To stay connected while travelling, turn instead to the FlexiRoam partnership in the Mastercard Collection.
Mastercard now groups its partner offers under the Mastercard Collection. Instead of a handful of one-time offers, World and World Elite cardholders enjoy recurring discounts with several brands. These benefits evolve throughout the year.
Current partners notably include:
Mastercard Canada introduces a program that was already in place in some countries: the Mastercard Travel Rewards program.
In practical terms, these are automatic cashback that you can get through your purchases at selected retailers when you travel.

For example, in the U.S. at Bloomingdale’s, you can get a $25 cashback for $350 or more purchase.

Here are some examples of offers we’ve seen:
Mastercard is using this launch as a reminder that all cardholders enjoy access to the Mastercard Travel program with DragonPass.
This provides access to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide, through the Mastercard Travel Pass app (powered by DragonPass).

Be careful, though: unless your card includes complimentary access, each visit is charged a per-visit fee (around USD 35) to your Mastercard credit card. Check the terms specific to your card.
Some Mastercard credit cards come with free visits:

Mastercard also used this launch to remind us of the Priceless Cities program, which provides access to many experiences around the world

In Canada, many issuers are offering World and World Elite Mastercard credit cards.

World and World Elite Mastercard benefits add real value, especially for travellers. Between airport lounges through Mastercard Travel Pass and the Mastercard Collection discounts, these cards go well beyond their base rewards. However, some benefits have disappeared, such as Boingo Wi-Fi, and others remain pay-as-you-go, such as lounge entry on cards that do not include complimentary access.
To make the most of these benefits, the best move is to choose a World Elite card that matches your spending. The National Bank World Elite Mastercard remains an excellent starting point thanks to its annual travel credits.
