Right on the Côte d’Azur lies a little village that few people know about: Théoule-sur-Mer. And as well as being home to sumptuous red rock coves and inlets, this commune, nestled at the foot of the Estérel massif, is home to a truly intimate gem: the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa.

In search of a place to relax for a few days last April, I decided to check into this five-star hotel, which is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Here’s my review.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Booking

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Although the group was recently acquired by Hilton, it is still impossible to book Small Luxury Hotels of the World hotels with Hilton Honors points. But fortunately for us, it should only be a matter of time.

Review: Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa | Small Luxury Hotels - Tiara-Miramar-21

As I’d been wanting to stay at this hotel for years, I decided to treat myself and pay out of my own pocket. In high season, prices per night range from 500 to 600 euros. But since I stayed there at the end of April, I was able to stay in a Deluxe room with sea view (the second entry category) for 350 euros a night.

Earn Hilton Honors points

As of February 2024, Small Luxury Hotels of the World belong to the Hilton portfolio, meaning we’ll soon be able to stay there by redeeming Hilton Honors points and enjoying our status benefits.

Because in Canada, holders of the Platinum Card® from American Express or the Business Platinum Card® from American Express earn Hilton Honors Gold status free of charge, whereas in France, it’s the Platinum American Express and Business Platinum American Express cards that give access to this status.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Location

Located just twenty minutes from Cannes, the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa, the second Côte d’Azur jewel in the Tiara chain, along with the Tiara Yaktsa Côte d’Azur, is a seaside hotel whose pink-gray façade, enhanced by balconies and terraces, overlooks a sumptuous private cove with azure waters.

Although the hotel is not far from the main road, it remains a truly intimate setting, set between red rocks and the infinity of the Mediterranean. Pines and palms encircle us as the sea lulls us with its sweetest melody.

To reach this little corner of paradise, a car is recommended. If you don’t have one, you can always rent one through a Sixt agency in Cannes or Saint-Tropez. It will make getting around the region much easier.

However, the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa offers its guests a private transfer service, at an additional cost. And a golf cart is available on site to simplify transport to the Tiara Yaktsa Côte d’Azur, 700 meters away. Because it’s possible to enjoy the facilities of the chain’s second hotel while staying at the Tiara Miramar.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Registration

Check-in is from 3 pm, while check-out is until 11 am. Since we were traveling by van and it was too high for the hotel’s underground parking, we parked it on the adjacent street and walked to the hotel entrance, just a few meters away. Street parking is free, but underground parking is not.

As soon as you arrive, you feel a sense of well-being as the sweet scent of orange blossom awakens your senses. The welcome is warm and friendly. The formalities take place on an armchair in the center of the lobby, where the dark oak wood and wide, graphic seats give the décor an atmosphere reminiscent of the 1930s. There’s even a games room nearby.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Deluxe Sea View Room

My review of the room is a little more mixed. Having chosen a Deluxe Sea View room, we were able to contemplate the immensity of the sea and fall asleep to the sound of its waves. For me, such a panorama is priceless. The only downside was the size of the room.

Review: Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa | Small Luxury Hotels - Tiara Miramar 01

The room has a surface area of 27 square meters, while the Superior room (the first entry category) has a surface area of 28 square meters. Needless to say, it feels a little cramped. But as the weather was fine, we spent most of our time on the terrace, taking in the view.

And given the size of the room, the bathroom is also very narrow. There’s a large walk-in shower, but no bathtub. Nor is the toilet in a separate room.

The setting is nonetheless dreamlike. Airy sheers, touches of gold and fuchsia, moucharabiehs… Oriental accents and views of the Mediterranean make these rooms really cosy.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Restaurants

At the head of the Tiara hotel kitchens? Alain Montigny, named Meilleur Ouvrier de France and Michelin-star chef for L’Or Bleu, the gourmet restaurant at the neighboring Tiara Yaktsa. As the restaurant was only open from Wednesday to Saturday, I unfortunately couldn’t try it out, but I did enjoy myself at MoYa, the Miramar’s waterside restaurant, open from lunch to dinner.

I enjoyed everything, from the panoramic view and friendly service to the extensive menu. There are very few vegan or vegetarian options, but if you inform the chef of any restrictions, he’ll tailor a meal to suit.

For dinner, we opted for the chef’s menu at 79 euros, where we were served snacks, starter, main course and dessert. And since I’d mentioned I was a vegetarian beforehand, the chef prepared special dishes for me. On the menu? Tomato pancerotto, vegetable ravioli, risotto with homemade pesto and basil oil and yuzu cheesecake. A real treat.

Breakfast is served upstairs, near reception. And the breakfast room is as tasty as the breakfast itself. There are oriental touches here too, with wood ornaments, velvet armchairs and shades of beige, fuchsia and blue. The ideal place to sip a coffee while gazing out at the sea from the large windows.

We filled our plates at the buffet, where pastries, fresh breads, jams and other delicacies were piled high. And as if hunger were insatiable, we didn’t hesitate to order free hot dishes.

The chef offers a variety of eggs (poached, fried, scrambled or as an omelette) with different fillings, from mushrooms and veal sausage to turkey bacon, grated Emmental cheese and herbs, as well as porridge, pancakes and crepes (with real maple syrup!). A foodie’s dream.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa – Other services

Swimming pool and beach

In addition to a private beach, the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa boasts a heated swimming pool on the ground floor, as well as terraced gardens dotted with sun loungers and beach beds, from which you can gaze out over the sea and bask in the Côte d’Azur sunshine.

Spa

Among the treasures of this seaside hotel is the Sothys spa. Spread over two levels, it features a steam room and sauna, as well as four treatment cabins, one of which is a double. Scrubs, massages, facials and anti-aging treatments… The options for pampering yourself are numerous.

To enjoy the spa, prior reservation is required. It is, of course, free of charge for hotel guests, allowing them to enjoy the facilities in complete privacy.

As we visited the hotel in low season, we were able to book a one-hour slot in the morning and enjoy the space to ourselves. In high season, you should certainly think about booking a little further in advance. But if that’s the price you have to pay for a private wellness area, it’s a bargain.

Gym

The Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa’s facilities are complemented not only by a gym, but also by outdoor tennis courts. These are available on reservation. You can even book private lessons.

Around the hotel

Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Monaco. These cities that everyone knows and loves are less than an hour and a half from Théoule-sur-Mer. For those wishing to explore the Côte d’Azur, the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa is the ideal base.

Those who want to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of some of France’s busiest cities will also be delighted. Because of its more isolated location, it lends itself perfectly to relaxation. And the site has everything you need to never want to leave: a private beach, heated pool, tennis courts, wellness area and extensive gardens. In high season, you can even rent boats and kayaks.

Hikers will also find plenty to do here, as many of the hikes on the Estérel massif start not far from the hotel.

Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa in France – Overall impression

Overlooking the Mediterranean at Théoule-sur-Mer, the Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa is a truly intimate setting, far from the crowds that dot the streets of Cannes and Saint-Tropez. A warm welcome and friendly service characterize the experience right from the start. It feels like home, even though home is a world away. The rooms, though slightly narrow, offer a dreamlike decor, blending oriental touches with Mediterranean accents, and offer a breathtaking view of the deep blue sea.

For lovers of farniente, the Tiara Miramar is the perfect place to hide away for a few days.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
