Milesopedia’s Review of This Offer

At Milesopedia, we’ve been following the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card for over 10 years and have personally used it to book dozens of tickets via the fixed points travel schedule. This welcome bonus remains attractive for those aiming for flights via the fixed points travel schedule, and RBC has just raised it.

At its maximum valuation in the fixed schedule (up to 2¢ per point), the bonus points alone can cover a round trip to the South in economy class.

This offer is limited in time and RBC may terminate it without notice. If you are interested in the card and meet the eligibility criteria (personal income of $60,000 or household income of $100,000), now is the right time to submit your application via the offer page. This offer is valid until November 25, 2026.

The most interesting use is when the price of the flight you want to book is close to the maximum amount (excluding taxes and surcharge ).

Here’s an example of a plane ticket I booked to use 70,000 RBC points I had accumulated.

This is a flight between Montreal and Las Vegas for a weekend. The fare is 35,000 Avion points (« Discover North America » level from the table above) and $164.85 in taxes.

vols las vegas rbc 2

Flights were direct, operated by Air Canada Rouge (but sold by United).

vols las vegas rbc 3

When we look at the fare details on ITA Matrix (to get the ticket price + taxes applied), we see that the ticket price is $370 + $345 = $715 (below the maximum allowed by RBC of $750 for 35,000-point tickets):

vols las vegas rbc ita 4

The taxes are within a few cents of those charged by RBC (approximately $165).

Here, 35,000 RBC Avion points saved me $715.40. This values my use at 2 cents per RBC Avion point (you can hardly get more!).

Flexible Rate Chart of RBC Avion Rewards

It is also possible to use Avion points via the flexible fare structure. It’s the famous « 100 points = $1 ».

Here, the 70,000 Avion points obtained as a welcome bonus can therefore be used for a $700 discount on your trip, exclusively on the Avion Rewards website.

Obtenez jusqu’à 100 000 points Avion avec la Carte Avion Visa Infinite Privilège RBC - 100 points rbc

Simply use this option when you :

  • Redeem points for travel rewards without using the air travel rewards redemption schedule;
  • Redeem points for a hotel stay, car rental, cruise or vacation package;
  • Redeem points for one-way tickets in business or first class;
  • Pay more than the maximum dollar value established for a given category;
  • Pay taxes, fees and surcharges.

Convert RBC Avion Rewards points to other loyalty programs

The best use of RBC Avion points obtained with the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card is for transferring to other programs (especially during point conversion promotions like with British Airways Executive Club or Asia Miles). This is what we did in Australia (and had to do in Japan).

Additionally, you can use your Avios points to travel with Qatar Airways as I do regularly to enjoy the Qsuite business class:

jmv - qatar airways qsuite

Here are the transfer partners and the normal conversion rate.

Frequent Flyer programConversion Rate
WestJet Rewards1,000 Avion points = 1,000 Westjet points
British Airways Club10,000 Avion points = 10,000 Avios
Asia Miles10,000 Avion points = 10,000 Asia Miles
American Airlines Advantage5,000 Avion points = 3,500 AAdvantage miles

From time to time, RBC Avion Rewards organizes point conversion promotions, such as +30% to British Airways Executive Club, for example. Watch out for these promotions to convert your Avion points at the best possible rate! Subscribe to our free newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out.

Purchase gift cards with points RBC Avion Rewards

If booking trips with points isn’t for you, there’s another way to use your Avion points: by purchasing gift cards.

We generally do not recommend this method for travel. However, the Avion Rewards loyalty program regularly offers promotions for exchanging Avion points for gift cards!

Here’s an example of an interesting hotels.com gift card promotion. With 18,750 points Avion Rewards, you could get a $250 hotels.com gift card:

RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card and the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card?

Both cards use the same fixed points redemption schedule and transfer partners. However, the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card adds 6 annual DragonPass airport lounge accesses, an accelerated earning rate, and a generally higher welcome bonus, in exchange for a higher annual fee.

What is the annual fee for the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card?

The annual fee is $120 for the primary cardholder, plus $50 per supplementary card. To find out the current conditions and welcome bonus, consult the complete card review.

What is the minimum income required to obtain the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card?

To be eligible for a Visa Infinite card, RBC requires a minimum annual personal income of $60,000, or a household income of at least $100,000. A good credit score is also necessary for approval.

Do RBC Avion points expire?

No. As long as your credit card account remains open and in good standing, RBC Avion Rewards points do not lose their validity. However, if the account is closed, points are quickly cancelled, so it is best to use them beforehand.

Can RBC Avion points be converted to Aeroplan points?

No, Aeroplan is not a transfer partner of the RBC Avion Rewards program. The airline programs to which you can convert your points are British Airways Executive Club (Avios), Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, American Airlines AAdvantage, and WestJet Rewards.

Does the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card provide access to airport lounges?

No, this card does not provide lounge access. If lounge access is important to you, consider the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card, which includes a DragonPass membership with 6 annual accesses.

What if the ticket price exceeds the maximum of the fixed points redemption schedule?

You have two options. You can either book the ticket via the fixed points redemption schedule and pay the difference with your card or with additional points at the flexible rate (100 points = $1), or you can directly use the flexible points redemption schedule for the entire ticket. The fixed points redemption schedule almost always remains more advantageous, even with a supplement to pay.

How to maximize the value of your RBC Avion points?

The best uses are the fixed points redemption schedule for tickets whose price approaches the category cap, and transfers to airline partners during enhanced conversion promotions (e.g., +30% to British Airways Executive Club). To avoid: paying for everyday purchases with points at a rate of 0.58¢ per point, which is the least profitable use.
