| 2 | $40,000 | 180 days | 40,000 |

Earning Points
With this Card, you can earn 5 BMO Rewards points per dollar spent on:
- Groceries
- Gas
- Drugstores
- Travel
- restaurants and bars
- Food delivery
And 1 BMO Rewards point per dollar spent everywhere else.

The BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege* Card is aimed at the more mature traveller!
Note that unlike the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite* card, the Visa Infinite Privilege version allows you to accumulate 5 points per dollar for travel and pharmacy purchases (excluding the local transportation category).
Groceries, gas, home food delivery, restaurants and bars are maintained at 5 points per dollar. That’s a lot of 5x categories!
So, if you use your points earned through all these purchases for travel, that means a return of 3.33%! It’s very rare that a credit card offers more than 3% for travel or even drugstore purchases!
25% Bonus with an Additional Cardholder
If you add an authorized user to your account, you will earn 25% more points.
This means you will earn 6.25 points per dollar in bonus categories (groceries, gas, pharmacies, travel, restaurants, bars, home food delivery). This represents a return equivalent to 4.17% if you use your points for travel purchases through BMO Rewards.
The additional card fee is $99. Therefore, at least $11,000 per year will be needed to justify the addition of the additional card. And if you spend more, you’ll get more value!
Potential earnings in year one
The $75,000 in purchases that unlocks the full bonus also earns base points. Here the 5x categories cover groceries, gas, drugstores, travel, restaurants and meal delivery. That range is wide enough to absorb most of a large budget.
Here is a sample breakdown over one year, with 72% of spending in the 5x categories:
| Category | Rate | Spending (example) | Points earned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groceries | 5 points/$ | $18,000 | 90,000 |
| Travel | 5 points/$ | $15,000 | 75,000 |
| Restaurants, bars and meal delivery | 5 points/$ | $12,000 | 60,000 |
| Gas and drugstores | 5 points/$ | $9,000 | 45,000 |
| All other purchases | 1 point/$ | $21,000 | 21,000 |
| Total | – | $75,000 | 291,000 |
Next, add the welcome bonus. Redeemed for travel, 150 points are worth $1. Here is the full first-year picture:
| Point source | Points | Travel value |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome bonus | 200,000 | $1,333 |
| Earned on $75,000 of purchases (mix above) | 291,000 | $1,940 |
| Total in the first year | 491,000 | $3,273 |
Against that $3,273 in points sits the $499 annual fee. The $200 annual credit brings the net cost down to $299. On top of that come the 6 airport lounge visits and the NEXUS credit worth up to $200 in the first year.
Using Points
You can use your BMO Rewards points in many ways:
- Travel
- Pay with your points option for any purchase
- For products or gift cards
- Investment
Let’s analyze the two most common uses of BMO Rewards points.
Redeem your BMO Rewards Points for Travel
To use your BMO Rewards points for travel, you can visit the BMO Rewards platform. You can redeem BMO Rewards points for different types of trips:
- flights
- hotel nights
- Car rentals
- Vacation packages
- Cruises
The rate is similar to what you might find with other online travel agencies.
But be aware that you can now also book with any travel provider and get the same value from your BMO Rewards points.

Using BMO Rewards points for travel is the best use of your points: 150 points = $1. So 120,000 points are worth $800.
For example, if you spend $3,000 per month in the 5-point-per-dollar categories with the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege Card* (groceries, pharmacy, restaurants and bars, home food delivery, gas, travel), you will earn 15,000 points per month, worth $100 for travel.
Over the course of a year, that’s nearly $1,200 you can earn this way! Enough to pay for a flight or several hotel nights!
And 25% more when you add an additional card to the account.
Use BMO Rewards Points for All Purchases
Please note that you can also use your BMO Rewards points for any purchase made on your card, starting from $1!
Here, 200 points = $1. So 40,000 points have a $200 value.

BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege Card – Our review
We have followed the eclipse line since launch and we test both versions with our own purchases. The screenshots above come from real accounts.
What really sets the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege* Card apart is not the multiplier, which stays at 5 points per dollar. It is the breadth of the categories: travel and drugstores are added, and that is rare at this rate in Canada.
The $499 fee and the $150,000 income requirement close the door on many people, however. More importantly, the full bonus demands $75,000 of spending in one year. This card therefore targets a specific profile rather than the general public.
Who is this card for?
- High spenders: from $6,000 per month onward, all three tiers become reachable.
- Travellers: 5 points per dollar on travel, plus 6 airport lounge visits and the NEXUS credit.
- Couples: the 25% bonus on a $99 additional card pays for itself from $11,000 of bonus-category spending.
- Families with health costs: drugstores at 5 points per dollar remain rare on the Canadian market.
- Average spenders: below $40,000 in six months you only reach the first tier. The BMO eclipse Visa Infinite* Card at $120 then makes more sense.
- Income below the threshold: BMO requires $150,000 in personal income or $200,000 in household income, with no exceptions.
- Transit users: unlike the Visa Infinite version, local transit is not part of the 5x categories here.
- Transfer fans: BMO Rewards points do not transfer to airline or hotel programs. Their value stays fixed.
How we assess this offer
Our calculations rest on three constant rules. First, we value BMO Rewards points at 0.67 cents, the travel redemption rate on the BMO portal (150 points = $1). Second, we count only the benefits actually received during the first year. Finally, we always weigh point value against the real annual fee.
The earnings table assumes a specific profile: $75,000 in annual spending, with 72% in the 5x categories. That amount matches the third tier of the bonus. If your volume is lower, strip out the tiers you will not reach before comparing.
The offer terms come from BMO. Our analysis remains independent of the commercial agreements we hold with card issuers.

Frequently Asked Questions about the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege* Card
Here are frequently asked questions in the milesopedia community about this card.
Is the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege* Card’s $499 annual fee worth it?
The effective net cost drops to $299 once the $200 annual credit is used on any purchase. When you add the 200,000 BMO Rewards points welcome bonus (approximately $1,400 in travel value), the 5x bonus on groceries, gas, pharmacies, travel, and restaurants, the 6 DragonPass lounge visits, and the $200 NEXUS credit in the first year, the equation is largely positive for travelers who already spend in these categories. Occasional consumers will likely find the $120 BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Card more advantageous.
What income is required for approval?
BMO requires a minimum personal income of $150,000 or a household income of $200,000. This is the standard threshold for Visa Infinite Privilege* Cards in Canada and is non-negotiable, regardless of credit score or assets. If you do not meet this criterion, the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Card (Visa Infinite tier, not Privilege*) has no minimum income requirement and offers the same 5x in bonus categories, with a $120 annual fee. It’s an excellent stepping stone in the meantime.
How does the 25% bonus with a co-applicant work?
For a $99 fee on the supplementary card, BMO adds a 25% multiplier on all BMO Rewards points earned on the primary card. The 5 points per dollar on groceries, gas, pharmacies, travel, and restaurants effectively becomes 6.25 points, and the base 1 point per dollar increases to 1.25. For a family budget of $30,000 per year in bonus categories, the bonus represents approximately 37,500 additional points (about $260 in travel value), which largely covers the additional $99.
How to redeem 200,000 BMO Rewards points for the best value?
The best ratio is redemption for travel via the BMO Rewards portal at 100 points = $0.70, which yields approximately $1,400 in flights, hotels, or packages with no blackout dates or fare class restrictions. Statement credits are also available but at 150 points = $1, which reduces the value to approximately $1,330. To maximize returns, save points for a high-season booking where paid rates are inflated; the fixed cents-per-point ratio means the more expensive the trip, the more useful your points become.
