The Scene+ Shell partnership is finally taking effect nationwide. As of now, Scotiabank customers with an eligible Scotiabank debit or credit card linked to a Shell Go+ account can save instantly on gas and earn Scene+ points with every visit to participating Shell stations: this is a major new development for the program’s 15 million members, who are seeing gas join the Scene+ ecosystem.
After a test rollout in Alberta earlier this year, the program is now expanding from coast to coast. This is excellent news for anyone looking to maximize their daily spending at the pump.
What the Scene+ Shell Partnership Changes
Fuel is among the most frequent purchases for Canadian households. By integrating it into the program, Scene+ adds an almost essential spending category to its already extensive list: groceries, restaurants, entertainment, travel, and online shopping. For members, this means more opportunities to earn points without changing their habits.
The rollout covers over 1,400 Shell stations across Canada. Note that earning and redeeming points apply to eligible fuel, car washes, and purchases made at Shell convenience stores.
How to Earn Points at Shell
Scene+ members can earn points on three types of purchases at participating Shell stations:
- Eligible Fuel: Every fill-up becomes an opportunity to earn points.
- Car Washes: Shell car wash services are also covered.
- Convenience Store Purchases: Snacks, drinks, and everyday items also earn points.
Earning can be enhanced and supplemented by instant discounts through eligible Scotiabank and Tangerine credit and debit cards, provided they are linked to a Shell Go+ account. To learn more about the best options, consult our selection of the best Scene+ credit cards.
Up to 13¢/L in value with Shell Go+ through December 31, 2026
In addition to earning, eligible Scotiabank and Tangerine cardholders can receive value of up to 13¢ per litre through December 31, 2026 (10¢ afterwards) at participating Shell stations, with an eligible payment card linked to a Shell Go+ account.
This total value combines instant savings and Scene+ points value. It varies depending on the card held and the type of fuel purchased. Here are the details by profile.
Scotiabank Customers
Scotiabank customers holding an eligible Scotiabank debit or credit card linked to a Shell Go+ account can save instantly on fuel and earn Scene+ points with every visit to participating Shell stations:

- 4 ¢/L in additional savings on Shell V-Power® fuel with an eligible Scotiabank credit card.
- Up to 3 ¢/L in Scene+ points value on Shell V-Power® fuel with an eligible Scotiabank credit card.

To achieve the maximum value of 13¢/L through December 31, 2026 (10¢/L afterwards), an eligible Scotiabank credit card and Shell V-Power® fuel are required. A debit card provides access to the basic 3 ¢/L discount on all fuel types.

How Much Your Scene+ Points Are Worth
The principle remains simple: for most redemptions, 1,000 Scene+ points are equivalent to $10. This value applies to standard redemptions, while some gift cards and credits may offer a lower value.
With the addition of Shell, you can now use your points directly at the pump, for a car wash, or for your convenience store purchases. This makes redemption as routine as earning. To explore all the ways to use your points, read our guide Scene+: How to Use Your Scene+ Points to Save on Travel.
With Shell Canada, we are integrating rewards into one of the country’s most frequent spending categories, transforming every stop into an opportunity to gain even more benefits.

Which Cards to Prioritize for Shell

Scene+ vs. PC Optimum
With the addition of Shell, Scene+ directly approaches the coverage offered by PC Optimum, which dominates the fuel category with its Esso partnership. The question often arises: which program to choose? Our comparison: Scotiabank Scene+ vs. PC Optimum details the strengths of each based on your spending profile.
Why This Partnership Matters
Scene+ now covers a significant portion of Canadians’ daily expenses. Groceries at Sobeys, IGA, and FreshCo, Cineplex movie outings, online purchases via the Scene+ portal, and now fuel at Shell. This shows how much the program has transformed since its 2021 revamp.
For members, this means fewer programs to juggle and more points in a single account. For full details on the partnership announced earlier this year, consult our article Shell Joins Scene+: New Partnership Starting March 2026.
- National Coverage: Over 1,400 participating Shell stations across Canada.
- Triple Benefit: Point accumulation, redemption at the pump, and potential instant discount.
- Daily Category: Fuel becomes a regular source of points for motorists.
- Shell Go+ Compatible: Benefits are added to those of the Shell app.
Conclusion
The Scene+ Shell partnership marks a significant milestone for the program. By integrating fuel, one of Canada’s most regular expense items, Scene+ positions itself as a truly cross-cutting program, capable of rewarding various purchases effortlessly. For motorists, this is a concrete reason to take a closer look at compatible Scotiabank and Tangerine cards.
I strongly recommend that you take a look at your current spending profile to see if a Scene+ card would help you earn more than you do today. To stay up-to-date on all program news, find our selection of the best credit cards updated monthly.

Scene+ Shell – Frequently Asked Questions
When does the Scene+ Shell partnership come into effect?
The national rollout was made official on May 26, 2026, following a pilot launch in Alberta earlier in the year.
How many Shell stations participate in the program?
Over 1,400 Shell Canada service stations across the country now accept Scene+ transactions.
On what types of purchases can you earn points at Shell?
Members earn points on eligible fuel, car washes, and purchases made at participating Shell convenience stores.
What is the value of a Scene+ point?
For most standard redemptions, 1,000 Scene+ points are equivalent to $10. Some specific gift cards or redemptions may offer a lower value.
Can the pump discount and point accumulation be combined?
Yes. Eligible Scotiabank or Tangerine cardholders can benefit from an immediate discount of up to 10¢ per litre through December 31, 2026 (7¢ afterwards), while also earning Scene+ points on the same purchase. Counting the value of those points, the total can reach 13¢ per litre through December 31, 2026, then 10¢ per litre.
Is a credit card required to benefit from the partnership?
No. Any Scene+ member can earn and redeem points at Shell. However, eligible Scotiabank or Tangerine cardholders receive accelerated earning rates and access the instant discount.
Is the Scene+ Shell partnership compatible with Shell Go+?
Yes. The benefits of the Shell Go+ app are added to Scene+ point accumulation and redemption, allowing for multiple sources of savings with each visit.
Can you still earn AIR MILES at Shell?
No. According to BMO, earning and redeeming AIR MILES at Shell Canada was available through May 25, 2026 (through March 2, 2026 in Alberta); with a BMO AIR MILES credit card, earning at Shell ended on May 25, 2026. Your Miles stay in BMO's program: AIR MILES is becoming Blue Rewards, and BMO says Miles convert to Blue Points at equivalent value, with no action required. To earn at Shell now, you need a Scene+ account.
Do you need to scan your Scene+ card when paying with a Scotiabank or Tangerine card?
Not if your accounts are linked. According to the Scene+ help centre, points apply automatically when your Scene+ number is added in the Shell app, or when you pay with an eligible Scotiabank or Tangerine card that earns Scene+ points. With a cash back or debit card that doesn't earn Scene+ points, also link your Scene+ membership to Shell Go+ in the Shell app. Otherwise, you get the fuel discount without the points.
Do Tangerine Money-Back cards also earn Scene+ points?
Yes, as of September 2026, once the card and your Scene+ account are linked to Shell Go+. With the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card or the Tangerine Money-Back World Mastercard®*, Shell lists three sources of value on the same fill-up:
- Instant savings: 3¢/L on all grades of Shell fuel, raised to 6¢/L through December 31, 2026
- Cash back: up to 3¢/L when fuel is one of your 2% categories
- Scene+ points: 1¢/L in value, or 2¢/L on Shell V-Power®
